Has anyone else noticed that a lot of young (teenage generally) girls tend to be more rude to Queen fans than young guys? Maybe this is just in my experience, but generally guys go "Yay! Queen! We Will Rock You was awesome..." or whatnot, whereas I've had a few... choice... reactions from female classmates. Such as: This one girl back in freshman year walked up to me and asked if I had AIDS. Upon replying, "Uh, no, why?" She said that since I liked someone with it, I probably have it. And then I had a girl who I considered a friend ditch me as a friend because I "love a dead gay guy." Ah, the tolerance of my generation. Ugh. |

I get that from most of my classmates. I was talking about Freddie to one of my friends and she said, "Freddie Mercury? That's a stupid surname. If I had a name like that I'd commit suicide." The thick arsehole! I said to her, "Well actually, he changed his name to Mercury. And what's stupid about it? It's pretty rock and roll." But I'm wasting my time even answering these numbskulls back. She's not my friend anymore anyway, since I found out that she's a total moron and not just when it comes to Queen. |

God I know exactly what you mean. At my school my friends either think its hilarious or God-awful that I'm obsessed with Queen and slag them off. People at my school ask me why I only like 'old dead guys' I always explain that only Freddie Mercury died. Stupid Quotes: 'Well Tessa[me], no offence but liking Queen doesn't make you cool in fact it makes you the exact opposite' no offence darling but slagging me off doesn't make you cool. It makes you the exact opposite. 'They[Queen]are an average band whose songs all sound the same' showing yourself to be a serious ignoramus there. And then there are the exaggerated sighs and groans when you start talking about them. That is all from girls |

Hey Pred... Just found someone I have something in common with, I'm also 13 and I love Queen and I'm from the UK and I hate it when people take the mickey out of Queen or me for liking them so much. It is mostly Queen themselves though. You know the comments guys... 'Ugh they're rubbish/ancient/dead/dirty/hippies/died of AIDS' I also think its really stupid when someone takes the mick for not listening to modern music. Hello, where d'you guys think 'modern musicians' get their ideas from. Queen is right up there with Led Zep the Who, Beatles and Stones as one of the most influential bands in rock history. One girl who takes the most mickey out of me likes Franz Ferdinand. The lead singer says he uses our Freddie as an example to follow by before a show (he isn't nearly as good a singer as Fred anyway) and oozes confidence and charisma or at least that is what he wants to put across. I can't tell the bitch that because she'll groan after I say 'Freddie Mercury' and walk off. Sorry about the long post. I feel passionately about this subject and can't talk to my friends as they get fed up with me and Queen |

It's weird. I know there are assholes everywhere. I've been a Queen fan since early 1992, I was 10 years old, almost 11 but the people I knew didn't bother me for it. Some of them even held me in a positive conception because they knew I loved the band and I knew everything there was to know about them. Not all of them liked Queen but the people that didn't know a lot about music didn't bother me with personal things about Queen or its band members. I listened to some stupid rumours and misconceptions about the band from friends and people I knew but I usually told them the real story and they understood it. I mean, I don't expect anybody to know a lot of things about Queen. Actually, I've been very pleasantly surprised. I once met this taxi driver in my home town, he saw I had some CDs in my hands and asked to look at them. He saw the NOTW cover and asked if it was Iron Maiden (pronounced "Eeeeron My-den" as you would read the letters in spanish). Then he said "No, it's Queen... cool". Then he looked at my Another World CD and he read it: "Bree-an My... he was Queen's guitarist, he built his own guitar, did you know that?". I was VERY surprised. This is a very humble guy who doesn't speak english at all and he knew the band, identified Brian May and knew a little story about it. I could stop grining all the way to my home in that taxi, hehe :). Wiley |

I don't know why you are all so emotional about what people think-Freddie didn't give a shit about what the'Little People'thought of him and lived his life the way he wanted to.He admired greatly hugely talented original people like himself and had all the time in the world for genuine fans who appreciated the music. So who cares what these idiots think,do you really think they will achieve that level of success? I think not! In the industry Queen are now regarded as the ultimate supergroup that have inspired this generation as much as any and the Gay Thing has no relevance at all-Are people really this ignorant about Aids? Like any terminal disease it is a Horrible way to go-I will not elaborate further.I suggest you round these Morons up and give them a grilling in front of Mr Cowell to prove how useless they are. |

I went to the music store to buy a new Queen CD for my collection the other day. As I was getting ready to check out, this guy and his kid were standing behind me and they saw my CD. I heard them say: "Oh, she must listen to a GAY band." I was really hurt and offended by that and the clerk told me to just shrug it off and enjoy the CD. Apperantly, he liked Queen too. I felt better, gave the kid and the guy a dirty look, and walked out of there with my head held high. People can be so cruel. Freddie was a special man with a wonderful talent. Why can't people accept Freddie for who he was instead for what he died of? I don't care, I'm still going to blast Queen thru the car's stereo with the windows rolled down and a smile on my face. We love you Freddie!!! |

In public, nobody has ever said anything to me, or said anything behind me while I was wearing a Queen shirt or buying something Queen. Actually on a few occasions I have gotten into little conversations with other fans. One time while I was buying some clothes and wearing my Freddie Mercury shirt, and the lady at the cash register who was probably not over 21 or 22 told me how much she loved Queen and how jealous she was of her boyfriend because his brother had gotten him tickets to Vegas for a tribute show. Another time while wearing my Queen Tour '06 shirt, this guy asked me if I went to the concert, and I told him yes and he was just like "ahh, I wish I could have gone, but I was in mexico". A younge guy too, probably 15 or 16. I have had nothing but positive experiances from everybody, and my friends even let me blast a CD while we were rooming in a hotel when we were getting ready, (school trip..) when I know they dont particularily love Queen. One of them HATES everything accept heavy metal and she even didnt mind to much. Just goes to show it's all down to the people you assosiate yourself with. I've had so many of my friends who Ive made listen to songs and theyve all been like "ok, I see where you're coming from now..." It's been grat. And you know, AIDS doesn't even make you dirty or disgusting anyway. People who poke fun at Freddie for being gay and dying of AIDS obviously have no idea what a horrible illness it must be (I only can get an idea from accounts of Freddie's final years) and how brave Freddie was. The fact that he faced up to his illness with such bravery and dignity should be applauded not mocked like some arseholes are doing (some on this site too *coughkingarthurcough*) Freddie was just a wonderful person anyway and his coping with that illness made him and the other Queens stronger and better than any of these short-sighted freaks |

You might be too young to remember this, but this guy raised quite a stir when he died, and left his estate to be divided between not one, not two, but three homosexual lovers. Two were transvestites. He was singing to one of them, though it uncertain whether he was singing to the one who gave him AIDS. The third homosexual lover was also a minor but he had reached maturity by the time this testament was being discussed." I responded that, no, he caused a stir because he gave his house to Mary Austin, who was most certainly not a homosexual lover of any sort, nor a minor. He then replied with a bunch of crap about how Mary Austin was lucky that Freddie did not give her HIV. I told him that he was just trying to be an ass because all the crap about he was saying about Freddie's will was just that, crap. I told him he must be mixed up because Freddie GAVE MOST OF HIS $$$ to Mary Austin. He replies: "There was only one gay musician who was a lead singer to Queen and pretended to have a female acquaintance, and then spawned a rash of lawsuits when he named a bunch of obscure homosexuals in his will. I do not care how many Queen Fan-Zines leave out all the bad parts. If they forget he was gay then I hardly consider them credible." Now, I'd love to know how you can pretend to have an acquantience. Jeez. Then he said a bunch of bullcrap about people who contract AIDS being disgusting, and that Freddie's offended because I don't realize he's gay (!). Pretty stupid. |

That is a load of crap, of cause we know he was gay, thats what caused his death!!!!! Jeeze, i know i can be a bit of a dumb @$$ at times but that is just insulting the human intelligence!! |

I know that thing is wack, sure Freddie was gay, i personally dont give a damn, he had every right to be like that... even though he died before his time... I still love him. |

I once when about 12 or 13 had a queen t shirt and went into town. This was about 1994 (ish) and 3 girls a few years older were walking towards me and commented on the shirt about being gay and liking gay music. I was devistated, being 13 and called gay by girls when girls were taking a interest to me.. Now the only rude people that annoy me are the trolls on message boards who pick for fights by picking at grammar and spelling, well intended posts and links, and opinions that others are allowed to have. |

Now i walk around with my 13 QUEEN badges, my school planner plastered with freddie piccas and my mp3 blaring their music. I do it all with pride. Fuck the rest of the world. It was actually my mum (bless her) who told me not to worry about what people think. My sister starting saxophone and is getting into jazzy music. I think this is great. She has her individual taste and I have mine. Just some people insist that its wrong to like Queen, 70's rock or jazz. We must only like music by Rhiana and the Pussycat Dolls. I look at the choice of music I'm meant to listen to and think what shit. None of these bands are brilliant, none will make a lasting impression on the music world. They'll disappear and they're all so fake and boring. There is a fine line between being influenced by an artist and just copying them. The music today dominating the charts all sounds the same! |

Ugh, people are disgusting aren't they. Guys, don't be afraid to show your love for Queen. I put up with this everyday. I don't care what people think. All of todays music sounds the same. Like today, My ignorant neighbors were outside and I was working on our '68 Nova, getting it ready for a show tomorrow night. I had the Queen CD's blaring and I was happily working without a care in the world. The I heard the one shout: "Hey Queenie, why don't you just go out with the gay guy. Oh wait, He's dead!" They were laughing, and then they said: "She must have married one, because she dresses like the guitar player with the white clogs!" These kids are about 16-17 years old. That pushed me over the edge. So, I yelled over to them: "I'd rather go out with Brian May than date any of you!!" They, just looked at me, then they went into their house. I'm sorry, but DON'T EVER pick on Freddie, Brian, Roger, John, or their music. This kind of ignorance just pisses me off!!!! |

People can be so rude, they're all the same fucking cunts. That people acts like jerks and picks on Queen happens almost all the time for me. It's normally to hear "Queen was Gay" "Freddie is gay and dead" you know simple uncreative insults. I mean come on, I've heard it all before and it just proves how little those little fuckers know about Queen. It sometimes even happens when I talk with someone in the phone and I've got Queens music in the background, and people are asking me interested who's made the song and when I tell them it's Queen they just "aaahh, not Queen, go to hell with your fucking Queen.".. And people really changes depending on wich company they're in, when there's many around they "hate" Queen and when your alóne with them they're like "Queen isn't so bad after all". THAT'S WHAT PISSES ME OFF!! How people change.. But sometimes it's fun when people are trying soo hard to get you pissed off. Sometimes when you just talks with someone else, like if I talk to someone who likes my chemical romance and i tell them that MCR made a Queen cover. There is always some pityful bastards that screams "Queen sucks, get a life! He was gay".. I pity those fuckers, they're all the same and it makes me sick. |

I get so much grief from my kids about my obsession for Queen. One day my daughter was using my computer and I have a photo of the guys as my wallpaper. She looked at it and said, "Ha! Freddie's gay." And I blurted out, "NO, he's NOT!" (Thinking she meant stupid or not cool) Then remembering the other meaning, well yes, but. . . then she just started laughing. *flustered embarrassment* I realized there was just no correct response to that (besides maybe just slapping her.) One day I told someone that my daughter doesn't like Queen and she acted all surprised and injured that I said that. "What makes you think I don't like Queen," she said. I replied, "Geez, maybe it's the way you sneer and roll your eyes every time I mention them." What the hell! I never make fun of or hassle my kids about the music THEY like. I don't know why they feel compelled to harrass me about my love for their music. |

Last night we had a show for a theatre program I'm in, and I was jokingly arguing with a few of my friends about a picture in the Freestone book. They took it to mean that Freddie and Phoebe had a thing going, and I was saying, "No! I believe they're just very good friends..." And then this kid who is okay some of the time but can be rude goes "He's definitely gay... Freddie fucked a guy and got AIDS..." And I got annoyed and snapped at him that there's not anything wrong with being gay and that I didn't see how it concerned him. And then he's like "I know there's nothing wrong with being gay" and I said "Then why are you talking about him like that?" and he goes "I don't like Freddie because he's gay..." I was like GRR! And then like an hour later when my friend said that she is bi he went "WHOA! That's awesome!" and I'm like "um, okay, so it's cool for a girl to be bi but not for a guy to be gay?" and he goes, "It's DIFFERENT!" |

At my fencing class once, I was talking about Queen to a friend, and forcing them to guess who was who on the CD... (they always think Brian is the lead singer...) when someone else comes up and says,'Freddie Mercury is a loser and sucks 'various people'. So I just ignore them and they keep this up and make fun of Freddie for being gay. So then I say,' Do you like Queen', and they say,'Who'? "You know the people that wrote We Will Rock You and We are the Champions!" Them: "Yeah." "You know Freddie was their lead singer"? Them: "Really? Wow, I just thought he was some gay dead wanna-be rapper or something..." Me - resists the urge to whop them around the head with my fencing foil (sword). |

Something happened yesterday that really pissed me off!!! My Mom came over to spend the day with me. She saw that my room was covered in Queen pictures. She then started to make fun of me for liking Queen so much!!! I'm like: "WTF???" because she always used to listen to Queen with me. When we got to the mall, she rudely asked me if I was going to buy another Queen album followed by: "I don't understand why you're so obsessed with them. They're just a band!!" Her roomies showed up and I had to put up with "Freddie was gay and that was wrong" and "Queen sucks". I put my chin up, told them off, and walked into the video store with my Mom in tow and got a Queen DVD. She payed for it!!! Queen was not just a band. To me, they were more. Why can't they understand this? |

It's really strange for me. For a GCSE speaking I did why Queen are my favourite band and the whole class just listened and when it came to question even kids who like rap asked me question I had nothing about Freddie being gay and even when I said he died of aids no one laughed. But my friends hate Queen and whenever I want to talk about them they tell me to shut up but they let my friend talk about Dr. Who all the time, I think that some people are just so immature. When I wear my Queen tee out in public ~I don't get funny or people yelling anything horrible, I guess I'm lucky that way. |
