Friday night, I caught the first show of the 'Highway Companion' tour, both in support of the new album (next month) and a celebration of their 30th anniversary together. The show was AMAZING!!! They were in TOP form from start to finish, the set list (as follows) was solid, and on top of that, Stevie Nicks joined them on stage for a few songs!
Listen To Her Heart
You Don't Know How It Feels
I Won't Back Down
Free Fallin'
Saving Grace (New, awesome song!)
Mary Jane's Last Dance
I'm A Man (A cover of the Yardbirds song.)
Oh Well (A cover of the Fleetwood Mac song.)
Handle With Care (Tom dedicated this track to "all the Wilburys, wherever they might be traveling tonight." This made me REALLY miss Roy Orbison...)
Band Intro & The Stevie Intro
Stop Draggin' My Heart Around (With Stevie... Obviously)
I Need To Know (With Stevie on lead vocals.)
Melinda (Tom said that they had played it live before, but it was totally new to me.)
Square One (Another new song.)
Insider (A duet with Stevie)
Learning To Fly (A beautiful slow version with Stevie on backing vocals.)
Don't Come Around Here No More
Refugee
Runnin' Down A Dream
----ENCORE----
You Wreck Me
Gloria (A cover of the old Van Morrison song.)
American Girl
I have wanted to see Tom Petty live since I was ten, and now, thirteen years later, I have. It was WELL worth the wait. When they started the show with 'Listen To Her Heart' (the song that got me into the band way back when), I felt this incredible euphoric feeling that I can't really describe. I knew I was about to get all I hoped for and more. As sappy as it may sound, Friday, June 9th, 2006 may very well have been the best night of my life.
P.S. Forgive me if this post makes no sense... I'm very tired...
I am very jealous.
That is an amazing setlist. Oh how I wish he would come to the UK!

Tom Petty rules! And that setlist kicks ass!
I can't wait for his new album :-)
And another Bob Dylan-album too, this year, plus the recently released Neil Young ("Living With War"). This year keeps getting better and better :-)

No. Grow a brain.
Bob Dylan had Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers as his backing band during the '86/'87 tour, and Johnny Cash was backed by them on his album "American Recordings".
