Yea! Can you feel the football fever! Everywhere i look there is Saint George's flags on cars, windows, houses, people and everything!! England are winning 1-0 at the moment after an own goal by Gamarra at 3 minutes, set up by a free kick from David Beckham. Paraguay's goalie, Bobadilla, has been substituted because he hurt his leg. Steven Gerrard and Valdez have both recieved yellow cards. It's been a very entertaining game so far! Go England! |

Yes go England! Though as I said in the World Cup thread last night, I will get slated for saying that. |

Yay! We won 1-0! England played well today i reckon. Well done lads. |

Doesn't sound all that impressive....1-0 through an own goal. But a win's a win, I suppose. |

Oh well, we had lots of great shots on goal though. And it's 3 points... |

The only good thing to come from the game was the 3 points, I thought England were piss poor. I didn't think we had anything in attack that would have scared an under 15's girls team. |

60 000 English fans were in Frankfurt and the city ran out of beer over night!! I don't think this ever happened before. A great party with happy fans, just amazing. |

Swe-tr&TB 0-0 ! This group is wide open, but England should make it through. England played great in the first half. Very confident and with good speed. If they can find that tempo again they will not be threatened by the other teams. Tr&Tb didn't produce anything and Sweden had lots of shots, but never had any really dangerous finishing. First game is always difficult. England will reach semifinal at least! |

i reckon England might go further than last year though..they played brilliantly in the first half. i reckon argentina will go far, is brazil playing? what group are they in? |

This match really sucked. Winning by an own goal. How low can you get. The match between Trinidad and Sweden was much more interesting! Go Don Leo, go Trinidad! |

ok, Englland played Really well in the first half, played shit in the second half, big mistake was taking off owen, anohter big mistake was sending home Defoe for the fucked up retard Roony! he is not fit to play fully, as soon as he plays he will be a target for assault by players to get him off and keep him off, was a fukin stupid move! in future Keep owen on and then crouch has someone to send his passes to, same with Beckham! |

Poor game made even worse by the referee from hell. what planet was he on? |

Rooney maybe only as clever as you, but the odds on him being fit enough for the second round make him worth his place. Ask your Dad about Keegan's 1982 situation. |
deleted user 11.06.2006 18:46 |
wot made u think i was 12? ur about 6 yrs too young there mate! PLUs if Rooney is fit for the second round, he is still gonna be a prime target cos his ankle/foot wont be 100%, it will still be weak and can be easily be broken off one good foul! Walcott is a good player from what iv seen, great speed and some good passes! you come up around my town all you will hear is everyone saying what it should of been and that is "Rooney out Defoe in", it is a stupid move and they know it. and the first half was played well! they kept on the offensive forcing Paraguay to rush with the ball! the second half it was the otehr way round we laid off them! we need to play like we did in the first half to win! and Beckham needs to keep up the class passes! |
eggy 12.06.2006 04:46 |
We were awful second half. First ten minutes were impressive and we dominated the rest of the first half. I can't praise Crouch, but he did alright. Beckham put in some good balls and they really didn't threaten us at the back. Eriksson didn't pick Defoe, as he hadn't played enough football this season, but we have Owen, Downing and Walcott who haven't played as many games as him combined. I've never liked Hargreaves, why not play Carrick there if we have to sit on one nil against inferiror opposition. Rooney should be in the squad, don't be so silly. I'm not worried, we won and there is plenty of time, but Sven and his tactical subs, I can do without them please. |
Freddie-B 12.06.2006 04:53 |
I'd say despite our win, we needed their captain to score for us, and after that looked pretty toothless and a bit naff in pretty much all departments. However, I-like many England fans-am not worried, because we have a good squad, even though the manager doesn't know what he's playing at. But of all the decisions I can't fathom of Sven's, and there are quite a few, let me tell you, the one I have the most problem with is his sickeningly misplaced loyalty to one person. Owen Hargreaves. Honestly, this is a world cup squad that couldn't make space for Shaun Wright Phillips and Jermain Defoe, to name but two-and a first team that can't make way for Michael Carrick, all of whom are recognised as good players, who have had good seasons (Wright Phillips aside, but we know he's class) So why does he keep doing this to us? He's an awful manager, and he keeps picking Owen "useless" Hargreaves!!! Honestly, how many matches have we seen England score first in and then think they've won so Sven orders us to sit back, play Hargreaves and then suddenly realise we're out of options for attack when the inevitable happens. I'm referring, principally, of course to these. vs Brazil, 2002. Owen scores early, England think they've won. Sit on arses and watch helplessly as Brazil score twice and we have nothing to fight them with. Vs France, 2004. Lampard scores early, England think they've won. Sit on arses, miss penalty, and watch helplessly as France score twice and we have nothing to fight back with. Vs. Portugal, 2004. Owen scores early, England think they've won. Sit on arses, and spend rest of game being monumentally outplayed and spend our 35 ossession hoofing the ball 50 yards to Portugese defence. Lose on Penalties. Vs Argentina, 2002. Beckham scores early, England think they've won. Sit on arses and spend rest of game being monumentally outplayed, but somehow get away with it. Vs Paraguay, 2002. Beckham scores early, England think they've won. Sit on arses and spend rest of game being monumentally outplayed, but somehow get away with it. Vs Trinidad and Tobago.......?? Honestly, Sven couldn't manage his way out of a wet paper bag. Whose idea was it to pump long balls up to either a) Michael Owen when he's only 5 foot 7, or b) Peter Crouch when there's nobody on to collect his knock downs? If someone asked you to pick out 4 of the best passers of a football in midfield play in the world today, who's betting against the names of Lampard, Gerrard and Beckham coming up? Why by-pass them with 60 yard balls to nowhere?!!?! Sven-for the love of God, a nation begs you.... Get your finger out of your arse and start smelling what you're shovelling!! This team is better, on paper, than any of the England teams from 1990, 1996, and 1998. But each of those teams has gone a long way further to convincing me they could pull something out of the hat because they played for each other and they were managed well!!!! Would anyone swap this squad with 96? Ok, we had better strikers, but our midfield had Gazza (past it), Anderton (sicknote), McManaman (over-rated) and Ince (ok, he was pretty good) in it. Sub options included Jamie Redknapp (sicknote supremo) and Steve Stone (fat). We're a better team now than we've ever been, and we will go out of this competition the second a decent team comes up against us and has us figured out in 10 minutes flat. Course, we'll be 1-0 up by then, which will be even worse! God help us! |

well when i watched the Trinidad match, the english commentators and the guys doing the after match analysis all said Trinidad will probably beat England, which even i think they will if we play the way we are at the moment, yes i know the heat was pretty big during that day but still no excuse for sitting around doing FA while the other team come to play us at our own game, that game being making us rush with the ball! Robinson was the ultimate saviour in that second half forcing strikers to rush the ball and volley it over the cross bar! Hints for Sven- 1-Keep Hargreaves OFF the pitch until you are about 3/4-0 up! 2-Keep Owen ON the pitch for the ENTIRE match! 3-Sort out your training sessions! you seem to injure more players in them than the actual match! 4-Keep on the offensive! dont spend one half being offensive and the other half sitting on your arses! get your bloody act together! |

I didn't like the game at all, although they got their three points witha play like that England has NOTHING to look forward against teams like Czech R., Holland or Brazil... It's easy to do robotics against bloody Jamaica or Hungary... One thing that makes me dislike England is the fact that every time they beat Azarbaijan or other Moldova they already think they are the greatest team in the world... On paper- close to it. On the pitch- haven't seen it yet... Walcott is a joke- thje whole hype... I know everybody wants anothyer Rooney but please... The two games he came on as substitute he was completely lost... Defoe, even though he had a bad season should be in the team. Remember the goal against Poland early in the qualifiers? I don't think this is something that Walcott could produce... |
