So as we all know, Queen did a massive number of tours with quite different setlists. Now, what would be your personal dream setlist? There is nothing that you have to include - pick oh, say, 25 songs. Assume God Save the Queen is automatically tacked on at the end, and Brighton Rock is automatically tacked on somewhere in the middle - so they don't count against the 25. List them in order. Medleys are allowed, but each song takes up a "slot". It could be a song they haven't played live in their career, if you so desire. Of course, We Will Rock You fast is a seperate version. Now, after much careful rearranging taking in account the general sound of each song, here goes my list which goes something from garnering crowd interest to lighter songs to heavier ones: 1. We Will Rock You (fast) 2. In the Lap of the Gods Revisited 3. Under Pressure 4. Killer Queen (medleyed into) Bicycle Race 6. Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy 7. The Millionaire Waltz 8. Somebody To Love 9. White Queen 10. You Take My Breath Away 11. Love Of My Life 12. '39 13. Brighton Rock 14. Spread Your Wings 15. It's Late 16. Who Wants to Live Forever 17. Hammer to Fall 18. Crazy Little Thing Called Love 19. Bohemian Rhapsody 20. Radio Ga Ga 21. Dragon Attack 22. I Want to Break Free 23. Keep Yourself Alive 24. Friends Will Be Friends 25. We Will Rock You 26. We Are the Champions 27. God Save The Queen |

You really give a chance to Dragon Attack, Keep yourself alive and It's late instead of these three? Something's not right with your head. But, in general, apart from 3-4 songs, I agree with your setlist |

on the 1st one elbow Friends Will Be Friends & replace with Tie Your Mother Down & you're on a winner TYMD - has to be in |

Despite what I said I decided to keep from the Innuendo songs, because I would want to include the entire album and thus not have space for anything else... To be honest, I forgot about Don't Stop Me Now. I intended to slot that in - maybe it can replace You Take My Breath Away... And I happen to like It's Late and Dragon Attack. Actually, Dragon Attack kind of sucks on stage because Brian has to include a silly solo thus replacing the awesome bass and drum solos of the original, so I'll replace that with Don't Stop Me Now. |

I would like to take this a step further if I may. What if Queen had preformed one more concert before Freddie died? What would the set list be? After careful consideration, here is in my opinion what it might have looked like. Breakthru (with tape intro from studio recording) Tie your mother down Kashoggi’s ship I’m going slightly mad I want to break free Under pressure Innuendo The miracle Another one bites the dust Scandal A kind of magic Now I’m here (Guitar solo) Love of my life Those were the days of our lives I want it all Headlong Invisible man Bohemian rhapsody Show must go on Crazy little thing called love Encore 1 Radio, ga, ga Encore 2 We will rock you Was it all worth it We are the champions God save the Queen |

I've taken it maybe a bit further, and choreographed what I would love to see in a Queen concert, right down to the details of pyrotechnics and key transitions. Like it? Think I'm crazy? Have at it. 1. Seven Seas of Rhye (curtain falls when Freddie sings the first "Seven Seas of Rhye") 2. Tie Your Mother Down 3. One Vision 4. Who Wants to Live Forever 5. Somebody to Love 6. You're My Best Friend 7. Killer Queen 8. The March of the Black Queen (the full song, not a medley) 9. Don't Stop Me Now 10. I Want to Break Free 11. Under Pressure 12. '39 13. Brighton Rock (does not count against the 25) 14. Love of My Life 15. Radio Ga-Ga 16. I Want It All 17. Hammer to Fall 18. Dragon Attack 19. Fat Bottomed Girls 20. Another One Bites the Dust 21. Crazy Little Thing Called Love 22. Bohemian Rhapsody (with a piano solo intro) 23. The Show Must Go On --encore-- 24. We Will Rock You 25. In the Lap of the Gods Revisited (see notes for transition details) 26. We Are the Champions 27. God Save the Queen (Does not count against the 25) Notes: -Since this is a dream setlist, Freddie Mercury is my frontman. No offense to Paul Rodgers, who did an excellent job in the role, but Freddie *owns* most of these songs. -Freddie would not be playing piano during "Seven Seas of Rhye," as he would need to be center-stage for the dramatic intro (right after he sings the first "The seven seas of Rhye!" and the guitar hits). -The band would just keep playing through the end of "Tie Your Mother Down," at which point Freddie would do the introductions. -As you can probably tell from the song order, I agonized over whether or not to make a medley of "Killer Queen," "March of the Black Queen," and either "You're My Best Friend" or "Lap of the Gods Revisited." YMBF didn't give me any really good transition points, and I really wanted "Gods" at the end of the album, for reasons I'll go into later. Beyond that, I think that with technology being what it is today, Queen could pull off "March of the Black Queen" live, perhaps in a "Bohemian Rhapsody"-esque form, with part of the song being removed completely, and parts being done on tape to a dark stage. -I stumbled across the transition from "Dragon Attack" to "Fat Bottomed Girls" when my iPod was set to shuffle one day, and maybe I'm crazy, but I've loved the effect ever since. -Hardest cuts to make: "These Are the Days of Our Lives" and "A Kind of Magic" -My setlist was (obviously) influenced most heavily by Wembley '86 and Q+PR. -Songs which use pyrotechnics: Seven Seas of Rhye (a nice bang of an intro as the curtain falls and the band enters) Tie Your Mother Down (deep boom at the final drum hit) Bohemian Rhapsody (the usual explosion as the band comes back on for the hard rock section; a curtain of white sparks behind the stage right after "Any way the wind blows" gives way to cymbals and a sustained guitar chord, ending at the gong) In the Lap of the Gods Revisited (see the setlist for an exact description) -I was experimenting with songs between WWRY and WATC a while back, and settled on "Killer Queen" and "In the Lap of the Gods Revisited" as two of my favorites. Ultimately, I prefer "Gods" there. The music goes from the heavy beats of WWRY almost instantly into a voice accompanied only by piano singing a soft melody. The intensity of that song, obviously, increases until the crowd is fully involved, and then there's the sudden ending, punctuated by large smoke bombs (similar the ones seen at the end of the 1975 Hammersmith Odeon Christmas concert). The room stays dark and the band silent for 30 seconds or so, before Freddie begins singing WATC and the spotlight shines on him at the piano, with the rest of the lights gradually coming up as well. |

Yeah its a really hard choice as I could easily do a 40+ set-list. but here's my 27: 1:One vision 2:I want it all 3:Tie you mother down 4:Killer Queen 5:Seven seas of Rhye 6:Keep yourslef alive Meledy-like works tour 7:Liar (Full version) 8:Death on Two Legs 9:Don't stop me now 10:Innuendo (First 2 verses) 11: The Miricle 12: Under Pressure 13: Now I'm here+Vocal improvisation in middle 14: Love of my life 15: The Hero 16:Gimme the Prize (Never got played but I'd bet it would sound awsome!) Leads onto: 17: Brighton Rock 18:Another one bites the dust 19:Lap of the Gods revisted 20:Bohemian Rhapsody 21:Hammer to fall 22:Crazy little thing called love 23:Radio Ga ga 24:Sheer heart attack 25:We will rock you 26:We are the champions 27:God save the Queen Very hard choice, If i had a 32 set song list, i'd include a meledy I thought of which goes: Gimme the Prize, Tear it up, Princes of the Universe, leads on to Brighton rock, but there are other songs more worthy of the place so I just did Gimme the prize and Brighton rock. One Vision would by exactly the same as the one on magic tour, I want it all would be played slightly faster and with hard drums. TYMD would be like the one from Hot Space tour. Then you have the works meledy of the early songs which I thought was nice but I also decided to have Liar as the full song, just thought it was too epic to cut it down like the real queen did. Death on Two legs, had to include it as its a great song. Don't stop me now is a great fast paced song so no way was I not going to include this. I love the first two verses of Innuendo, prehaps some of the best 2 verses Queen ever made and while they never got to play it live its in my dream set-list, as is the Miricle which is another great song. Under Pressure played exactly like the Budapest 86 version, love that version! Now I'm here to be played like the late 70's version with vocal improvisation in the middle and hopefully Freddie smashing those high notes. Love of my life, no need for an explantion really! The Hero is a great song and it feels very climatic to me and I think its a great song, best on the flash album for sure. Gimme the Prize is an intresting one and I feel is a vastly under-rated song, quite why Queen didn't actually play this song live I don't know as it could have been a stunning song live, so I've decided to put it in. Halway through and where the guitar solo starts I'd have Brighton rock, the version on Live Killers would be great! Then Another one bites the dust, another great that can't really be missed out. Lap of the Gods Revisted is another great song and I think could prove to be a great lead-in to the big one, Bohemian Rhapsody. First two verses sang like the version from the MK Bowl, rock section sang like the Newcastle 79 version, then ending with the Wembley version and a big climax to the song. From now on its easy to decide the songs, the furst sng after Bo rap is Hammer to fall, a great song, has to be in there I think. Crazy little thing called love next because its a great number and would be a fuzion between the early and later versions, a fast beat like the early ones and the long Guitar section in the middle. Next song would be another legend, Radio Ga Ga, just had to b ein there and exactly the ame to the live aid version which is probably the best version of that song ever live I think. For the encore, starts of with a blistering version of sheer heart attack, not quite sure why they dropped it from the set-list because it was a truely great rock song. The final three are blatently obvious, We will rock followed by we are the Champions and ended by God save the queen. |

My, what a year does to one's preferences in music. I've dug deeper into Queen's catalog, and it's to the point that I can no longer settle on only 25 songs (if you count each part of a medley as its own song). Here's what my iTunes "Queen Set" playlist looks like now, complete with lots of mixes I've done myself. 1. I Want It All (album version, excellent intro song with all that guitar work) 2. Sheer Heart Attack (I spliced a Mustapha intro to this one and ended with a snare drum hit right after the drum solo--gave the song a proper ending) Tracks 3-6 are part of a single medley track in my setlist 3. I Want to Break Free (right up until the end of the solos) 4. In the Lap of the Gods...Revisited (cuts out the second verse, otherwise largely unchanged) 5. Keep Yourself Alive (ends after the drum solo) 6. The Hero (Blistering Remix as posted here, drum intro removed) 7. Somebody to Love 8. Now I'm Here 9. Liar 10. Another One Bites the Dust 11. Crazy Little Thing Called Love 12. '39 13. Love of My Life 14. Too Much Love Will Kill You (Made in Heaven version) 15. Fat Bottomed Girls (I spliced on a White Man intro) 16. Under Pressure Tracks 17-18 are part of a medley 17. Seven Seas of Rhye (until the drum hit after the "forever and ever" part) 18. Stone Cold Crazy (cut out most of the intro) 19. Radio Ga Ga 20. Last Horizon (I know, I know, it's a Brian May solo work...) Tracks 21-22 are a medley 21. Brighton Rock (all the way through the guitar solo, ending right before the pace picks up for the finale) 22. Tie Your Mother Down (complete song) 23. Bohemian Rhapsody (live arrangement) 24. Was It All Worth It? First Encore: 25. The Show Must Go On 26. Hammer to Fall (12" Headbanger's Remix) Second Encore: 27. We Will Rock You 28. We Are the Champions 29. God Save the Queen It's not too far over the 25-song limit, and in terms of show length, I think it would be on a level about with the Works tour. |
