Since there are people all round the world from this site, I have an odd request, to help me with something I'm up to at the minute.
What words/phrases do you use to describe studying for an exam? For example, in the UK, do you still use the word 'swot'. And in the US, what words/phrases are in common use? (I assume Americans don't use the word 'swot' in this way). I would apprecaite as many examples as possible.
A really, really odd topic, but it would be very useful for me to know whats in common use these days, for something I'm currently working on.
Thanks for the replies; surprised at how quick there's been some! Thanks for that.
Erin, as a resident of the good 'ol US of A, I take it the word 'swot' is not used over there in this way?
Yeah, swot and cram were the only two words I could think of. Can't think of any other slang for study.
In the US (my experience):
Studying = Routine reading, reviewing course notes.
Cramming = Last-minute intense, frantic reading/reviewing, usually because one hasn't kept up with the course material
