Three days of biting my tongue - and I am still really sad to read 'those' previous threads. I have always believed (and said) that one of the things 'QZ' did really well was to pool our resourses, and push the Queen envelope forwards. Some of the more serious discussions in here, have been among the most informative in the Queen WORLD, and I have always thought that this was the place I came to 'learn'. Infact, this site has been MORE informative and accurate than the 'official' sources. This is because we CAN speak our minds - without censorship, or breaching Draconian vows of Masonic proportions - and sometimes - even disagree with 'those powers that be' and their stupid 'Freddie birthday compilations'. It is a pity that such entrenched views have been drawn up on both sides. I personally believe, for what it's worth, that by joining forces, both the official and 'unofficial' apostles - could between them, create the most magnificent and accurate Queen Bible - ever. However, as this will always be a one-way street, I guess that divisions are no more than to be expected. Therefore, to address the balance Greg, I offer you a personal challenge. No tricks, no cons, and nothing up my sleeve. In good faith, why don't you begin a new thread? A serious question and answer session - wherein you answer some REAL questions - honestly and seriously, as I believe you really can and do have some serious contributions to make to the Queen community. (That was meant as a sincere compliment by the way). This is not meant as a personal pissing contest - more of a juvenille 'you show me yours - and I'll show you mine'. Surely, you can not seriously expect the good faith, respect and support from such a tight-knit internet community like QZ, without flashing a little bit before-hand, do you? Take the boxing gloves off and exchange them for a glass of wine, and an hour of serious discussion. Who knows, even you may be surprised by the depth of talent which lurks between these anonymous pages. |

Im not Greg Brooks, but I like that. :) |
Penetration_Guru 27.05.2006 20:05 |
It wouldn't work, not in any way that would be useful to Greg's purpose. Too many idiots would jump on board, either hurling abuse back and forth, or getting distracted by things like "I can't believe Bo RHap was never a #1 in Venzuela, have they no taste?", "yeah, I really love it", "ooh, that bit in the middle is, like, sooooooo amazing" etc etc. |

PG: Just a thought... if Greg was to actually pick up the gauntlet, (and to make the challenge easier), we could screen the questions before hand, so that the troll element and the 'was Freddie circumcised' brigade were themselves excised from the debate. I still believe in my (above) original opinions, but I accept that like all communities, QZ too has a sleazy underbelly. I am sure that in return for Greg's own respect and civility, that we as a community could collectively 'mind our manners', and treat him with a more positive and open frame of mind, and again, as I also suggested above, who knows what even he may learn from the more 'enlightened' among us. I do hope Greg replies. I do not expect the beginnings of a 'beautiful relationship', but even the British and German armies could find the time for a Xmas day truce - so perhaps some things are possible after all. But I don't think I will be holding my breath... |

I am not surprised that GB has not responded to this topic. Mud wrestling at Queenzone is too much fun to bother replying to this topic. Anyway, I think Elvis was planning on leaving the building anyway, but John's proposal gave GB more incentive to leave. |
Lester Burnham 27.05.2006 23:52 |
I, too, am not surprised he has not responded. What could possibly be more stimulating: the very mud-slinging that he's discouraging us of, or an actual Q&A discussion with thoughtful, intelligent responses? I know what I would do if I had more than half a brain, but I guess those with lesser gray matter prefer to sling childish insults. It was a good try, Mr Stuart. |
TheGame 28.05.2006 01:07 |
GB have left the building i guess. I've never met this (in)famous GB, but he sure sounds like a strange guy. One sec he act like a little baby, the other sec he actually behave like an adult. I've read every post, and it gave me a laugh some time. He sure like to crack people up, and people react ofcourse. It's childish, but still...why bother. I think the suggestion John S.Stuart came up with was straight and fair. Hope GB read this final post, so perhaps some of the "damage" will be repaired?? |
Serry... 28.05.2006 02:14 |
He read my question about "You're the only one". No answer, no reply, nothing... But now I know that I'm not a real fan of Queen because I wasn't even born when Mr Brooks already have friends in Queen world and because I have never paid a couple of thousands of euros for to come to UK or Holland to ask him one question privately on conventions. I'm curious about what Brian would think about it - about these new standards of being Queen fans... And especially Queen's PR agent! When serious question asked - serious QZers will always come and discuss. It has nothing to do with idiot threads in General forum. |
luthorn 28.05.2006 02:51 |
I think they all live in a complete different dimension or some sort of time warp. Judged on a frequency of new material release, time must be running much slower over there. They fail to notice that we are all mortals and can't wait indefinately for a new Queen material (by Queen material I mean everything created prior to 1991). Brian almost got a PhD in astrophysics, perhaps he things it is okay to publish one live album every century. Solar system still has 5,000,000,000 years before it explodes, so they should meet the deadline. |
luthorn 28.05.2006 02:53 |
...and one more thing, I am listening to Chicago 7-12-1978 bootleg right now, Brighton Solo is brilliant on this one. Probably best ever. How about this for the next Queen album??? |
rhyeking 28.05.2006 03:22 |
Keen-eyed posters on QZ will notice I don't post on here a great deal, and it's rare that you'll find my jumping into discussions about "My favourite song" or "Where's John?" threads. I don't even read a lot of the threads on here. I scan the thread titles now and then, see if one catches my eye and maybe will skim through it. If I think I have something to add, I'll post. Occassionally, I get driven nuts but what I preceive as idiocy or a lack of respect toward Queen and I jump in, say my piece and move on. When I start a thread, it's ussually an attempt to engage other posters in lively, informative discussion about either Queen history or Queen releases. Otherwise, I stay out of it for the most part. I don't socialize on here and can't really say I know any of you (except two of you whom I met before I began posting). For me, this isn't where I need to chat. And I wouldn't have the time even if I wanted to. The point I'm trying to make is that the social element of these threads is detrimental to distilling information and learning what we can from our collective research. It's like a room full of scientists talking about why Einstien didn't wear socks instead of actually trying to unlock the secrets of the universe. It's not my site, but I've always felt the Serious Discussion page should be focused on the exchanging of knowledge and the working out of problems related to Queen and their solo works' recordings and touring. Seriously, what else matters? Roger's green hair gets relagated (rightly so) to the Fun Discussion pages, leaving Serious to track down the mysteries of what exactly Queen recorded during their debut album sessions (Hangman anyone?). Greg is the official Queen archivist, but I'm sure he'll be the first to admit he is not all-wise and all-knowing. He does research, we do research. The internet is full of information both accurate and inaccurate. Queen Productions have erred in the course of their history, a lot of such mistakes will probably never be corrected or the source discovered. But that's life. No one thinks to follow the band around and chronicle their life as it happens, in order to keep the record straight. Years later we find ourselves sifting through old magazine articles and chart info to see what happened when. It bothers me that there are people out there who think it's a badge of honour to be able to flaunt "I know more than 'Official' sources!" in the face of the people they could instead be helping. So what if you don't think a release like Stone Cold Classics was nessecary. Get over it. There's work to do and if you have something worthwhile to contribute, do so. NASA scientists and engineers had an unofficial policy, that they could yell and scream, and have heated discussions until they were blue in the face with the blessing of the Director *as long as it was about the work*. It was never personal, and it was never about ego. And folks, that got them to the moon! There is a very real opportunity here to work with Queen Productions simply by being as accurate a resource as possible. QP probably has nothing to do with us because we come across as fan-boy know-it-alls. We are shooting ourselves in the foot by lacking integrity and solidarity. I'm not saying we should be friends or that we even need to like each other, but we can raise our standards of knowledge by simply staying focused on what is important to us: Queen's music. Here's hoping we can do this properly. |
Jjeroen 28.05.2006 05:35 |
*sigh* I'm with you John - tried to do something similar in one of the other threats... There have been a couple of people who tried to make some sort of peace and maybe start something positive. Oddly enough ALL those attempts have been ignored. NONE of them have received a reply from GB. Instead there is still a flood of personal namecalling, bullying and quaralling that's becoming sad and more childish by the minute. This situation is realy pathetic and going nowhere. GB, there is obviously a lot of frustration inside you. I doubt that all comes from some people on Queenzone critisizing you. (And responding to people that 'detest' you? ... Sorry, mate, you REALY should know better then that!). As a result your posts in here are of the sort of tone that a lot of people just LOOOVE to jump upon. As an adult you should also know that. Yes, Queenzone IS a freestate where every moron can say what he thinks no matter how tact-less his choice of words. It is also still a place with potential when it comes to knowledge and creaivity. Both describtions fit you too, GB. Looks like you REALY could fit in here. You just need to learn to actually read the usefull posts and ignore the not-so-usefull and other-sort posts... Yes, it is hard when people call you names in public though your intentions where good at first. It is hard to ignore that - I KNOW! I've been there. But spend some more time in here in a decent manner and you'l get used to it before you know it. There ARE people in here that actually said that they 'detest' (or equivalent) me. There even are people in here that threatened to make my life living hell and that they would not rest untill I was dead. On the other hand: there are MORE people in here that give me a good feeling. Friendly people, funny people, wise people, helpfull people. People that keep me going. People I would realy label as 'friends', also OUTSIDE the internet. Queenzone is oneof the places where I met a lot of people that actually made my life happier and more joyfull. Both in here and in private. Both on a business (collecting/trading) level as a private level. I also do NOT like everyone in here. Yes, there are people in here that ARE morons, idiots, selfish dickheads, plebs whatever. I can NAME them. I am not Mr tactfull himself either. I KNOW what to say if I am looking for a fight with certain people. But I also know what NOT to say if I want to remain alive in here. (Well, most of the time, I THINK I know ;-) Were all the people you went to school with your friends? If so, you were very lucky. There were some people who's blood I still would drink. Have all your collegues in all jobs you had, all your friends? If so you are very lucky. There is still some of mine, that I would rather kick in the head with a baseball-bat. Same goes for Queenzoners and QueenFANS in general. And you know what? You ARE right! The majority seams to be sick in the head! When I look around me in real life, I am sad to say, that I ALSO find that the majority of people in todays world is selfish, non-thinking, blunt and ignorant. But that just seams to be the way of the world today... Yes, that IS frustrating from time to time... But I guess we must learn to live with it... Or would you rather jump off the roof? Luckily in all above mentioned situations there have been people that kept me going. People that made it worthwhile to KEEP the job I could so easily have quit. People that KEEP me coming back to Queenzone, though it is SO easy to leave. You do realise, GB, that you cannot just leave like this? You do understand that this needs to be resolved first, right? I assume you realise that by walking away now is keeping the rediciolous spirit of our contact as it is right now intact? PLEASE, take the oppertunity to indeed, as some of us suggested, start a constructive debate. Use normal words, refer not to any individuals in a negative way and forget about all the bullshit of last weeke |

Good post John, I think that all of the adults can move on now, i do agree he wasn't professional, and he is a little bitch, but i am moving on with this shit, not worth taking the time and arguing.... If you others don't want to here his shit, simple.... DO NOT READ his posts! If he doesn't get any responses, he will leave, if ppl want to respond to him, be adult and show him respect like you would anyone else (maybe that's a bad example for some here) But i think if all he is going to do is Flame us, then ban him, he may work for Queen but he isn't a part of Queen or this site, simply a sub-contracted butthead. So in Closing, The Show Must Go On.. |
bas asselbergs 28.05.2006 20:36 |
IF Mr. Brooks reads this, i hope he knows the real names behind the nicknames, so he can respond to everybody the way one deserves. If i get shit, i give it back. So des he. The enormous responsibility that his job brings, is in good hands with him. I always enjoy the new stuff he brings along at the conventions and dutch meetings, and i listen very carefully to everything he says, as in there is so much info and good stories to enjoy. If he asks for help, to get info from all 375+ countries in the world about nr.1 chart-positioned songs, i think we should provide him with that. I would like to know what song was nr.1 where and when. If there are people who could have done the job better, Queen would most certainly have given the job to that person. Greg got the job, and i think he's doing just fine. WE, the fans, are NEVER satisfied with what we get, how much and when we get it...we wouldn't even be satisfied if we could burn the not yet composed future songs on a disc or what music Freddie still had in his mind when he passed away...Greg's job is to recognise ALL little differences between thousands of recordings, that MUST be listended to, archived and cleaned and digitalised. If i look at the Freddie Mercury box-set, i also know that there are SOOO many songs and recordings missing, of wich WE would say "I would have put them all in the box" but there's stil things like the legal side to things, and property-, author- and copyrightlaws, and the heritage of the Mercury Songs Ltd etcetera...it is unbelievably complicated to get everything on discs and released that we know that excists, as we already have most of that stuff on discs in our collections...we have the Freddie and Michael Jackson tracks, Freddie with Cliff Richard, the David Bowie extra's, Silver Salmon, Hangman, 1984 with Brian, Roger Taylor 16 years, Logan Place demo's and video's...so why call Greg names and curse him for not releasing all that what we already posess? As if it were HIM who decides what will come and when. It is Brian and Roger, with Mary Austin and Jim Beach who decide. NOT Greg. He ony researches, inventores, restorates, digitalises and negociates with Queen, and advises them...to the very best of his abilities. Just as i would do myself. I think it just isn't fair to blame him for doing a difficult job with all resposibilities the way he does it. Even if he says things that you don't want to hear, or even if he reacts different from what you hope he would do or say, then it is still his right to do things the way he is, or chooses to do as he thinks is right. I have been made out for God knows what in the past, but i know that i am a good person. Greg is a good person too. No matter what he says to whom, or in wich way he says what he wants. We are not different. He is a fan, just like anyone of us, but he is just so unbelievably lucky to have the privilege to really know what is still unreleased, and we can only hope that he succeeds in getting the very best out in the open for us...and he wants to share all that...but what do you, the so called fans do with all that? Tape and bootleg the recordings, spoiling our own fun and possibilities for more hearing sessions with all that...we destroy what he gave us, and now he is to blame? sorry...you lot should look in the mirror and blame yourselves -in my humble vision...- because: take a look...> point your finger in someone elses direction and look at your hand when you do that...you'll see that there is only 1 finger pointing to the one you accuse...but 3 point in your directon (pink-, ring- and middlefinger).....so...who's guilty when you do so? I suggest you stop taping during the hearing sessions, and give the guy some credit, and just sit still and be patient...await what's coming....it will be fab in the end. Greg is in my opinion the man ho can do the best job, no matter what you think and feel about him personally. Do not forget that WE are NEVER satisfied with what does |

BEFORE I DISAPPEAR FOR ANOTHER HALF YEAR OR SO - I'm due a QZ holiday, as is everyone - I should, out of courtesy offer some response to John Stuart's PERSONAL APPEAL. Firstly... good on you JSS for using your real name and not hiding away. I can only respect that. Everything is out in the open with US at least. I will reply to John's comments (below) IN CAPITAL LETTERS, so it's easier for all eyes.... JSS stated - I have always believed (and said) that one of the things 'QZ' did really well was to pool our resourses, and push the Queen envelope forwards. I SEE SOME EVIDENCE OF THIS BUT IT'S MUCH RARER THAN MOST OF YOU GUYS LIKE TO THINK. THERE IS MORE BICKERING AND SLANDER AND PETTINESS, BY FAR, LET'S BE HONEST AND FACE IT, THAN THERE IS GREAT QUEEN MINDS PULLING TOGETHER FOR THE GREATER CAUSE. IF THAT WERE GENUINELY THE CASE THEN I WOULD BE PART OF IT... AS I AM WITH 7 OR 8 QUEEN EXPERTS OUTSIDE OF QZ. THAT'S NOT INFLAMATORY, IT IS TRUE. ICAN PROVE THAT, AND I WILL. Some of the more serious discussions in here, have been among the most informative in the Queen WORLD, and I have always thought that this was the place I came to 'learn'. IT IS TRUE THAT I TOO HAVE SEEN SOME VERY GOOD STUFF ON HERE. I WAS RECENTLY VERY INTRIGUED BY THE 'HAMMER TO FALL' HEADBANGERS MIX 'ALTERNATIVE'. I LOOKED INTO THAT. BUT THAT IS EXTREMELY RARE I FIND SOMETHING THAT SETS ME OFF INVESTIGATING. "PUSHING THE QUEEN ENVELOPE" JOHN, IS O.T.T. AND OVERDOING IT, TO SAY THE LEAST. "LICKING IT A BIT" WOULD BE A BETTER METAPHORE. SPEAKING YOUR MINDS IS GREAT, BUT THIS SITE IS LITTERED WITH NASTY SODS SAYING THINGS LIKE POUR GASOLINE OVER GREG AND SET IT ON FIRE AND WATCH HIM BURN, AND "I WON'T LET YOU SUCK MY COCK, GB" THAT'S THE 'SPEAKING YOUR MIND' I HAVE BEEN PRIVY TO. NOT IMPRESSIVE, IS IT? HOW MANY PEOPLE MADE A SERIOUS EFFORT ON QZ TO OFFER ME DETAILS ON OBSCRURE QUEEN NUMBER 1's IN THE WORLD???? 2 OR 3 WAS IT? DID YOU JOHN? DID YOU MAKE AN EFFORT TO PUSH THAT PARTICULAR ENVELOPE? DID YOU EVEN POKE YOUR TONGUE OUT TO EVEN THINK ABOUT LICKING IT? I THINK NOT. PERHAPS YOU MIGHT TRY TO PRACTISE WHAT YOU PREACH? THAT'S A FAIR COMMENT, RIGHT? SERIOUS CO-OPERATION FOR THE GOOD OF THE QUEEN SINGLES PRODUCT, ON THIS OCCASSION, WAS VIRTUALLY NIL. DON'T SWEAR AT ME, QZ-ERS. DON'T THINK OF NASTY CLEVER THINGS YOU WRITE ON HERE, TO ME, JUST BE HONEST AND FACE THE FACTS OF WHAT I'M SAYING HERE. IT IS ABSOLUTELY TRUE. It is a pity that such entrenched views have been drawn up on both sides. TRUE. BUT INEVITABLE. I personally believe, for what it's worth, that by joining forces, both the official and 'unofficial' apostles - could between them, create the most magnificent and accurate Queen Bible - ever. LIKE YOU ALL DID WITH THIS POLITE REQUEST OF MINE??? I ASKED YOU, I APPEALLED FOR HELP, JOHN, I GOT NO HELP AND INSTEAD GOT CALLED A LAZY FUCK. STAGGERINGLY... I DID NOT EVEN COME TO QZ FOR HELP. ONE OF YOU PASTED IT HERE FROM BM.COM OR QOL AND THEN SEVERAL OF YOU GOT STRAIGHT INTO SLAGGING ME OFF... NOT A HINT OF ANY CONSTRUCTIVE OR USEFUL DATA... NOT ON QZ. EXCEPT FROM 2 OR 3 OF YOU. However, as this will always be a one-way street, I guess that divisions are no more than to be expected. IT HAS TURNED INTO A 1-WAY STREET BECAUSE CERTAIN QZ HAVE DIRECTED AND FORCED IT THAT WAY. THEY HAVE SCREWED IT UP FOR EVERYONE... JUST LIKE THE BOOTLEGGERS DO AT THE CONVENTIONS. THEY SECRETLY RECORD MY RARITIES (DESPITE OUR APPEALS NOT TO), AND THUS I HAVE TO NOW ADD THE ANNOYING "PROPERTY OF QPL". IT'S ALWAYS THE FEW WHO SPOIL IT FOR THE BROADER GOOD. Because we all know that, back in the 70's when Funny How Love Is was recorded, it wasn't Queen doing it - it was GB. So it really is 'his', isn't it? Haha. I think people wouldn't record them if the fucking things would be released. "I HONESTLY FEEL THAT I HAVE ACCESS TO ALL THE GREATEST AND MOST ACKNOWLEDGED AUTHORITIES ON QUEEN THAT EXIST ON THIS PLANET." Too bad you didn't have them when you wrote that book... But to be serious for a moment - why are you taking this all to heart?? Someone on this forum told me to jump in front of a bus once (gee I wonder why, haha) but - did I lose sleep over it?? Did I feel like jumping in front of a bus afterwards? NO. Why on earth do you give the nasty mean QZ'ers you speak of such attention? And to *post in capitals*... haha. It's *just* the internet, so what if people give you shit??? How the heck do you manage in your job, with some of the dinks you must run into, if you can't even handle a forum??? PS. Please upload Face it Alone, but could you insert that catchy "Propert of Queen Productions" thing in it? |

Good organizational skills and knowledge on protecting delicate pieces are more important in my mind than actual knowledge. But if you have those traits as well as your extensive knowledge then you get my unofficial and uncounted vote for being the Queen archivist. |

I really don't get the point of adding the "Property of QP" thing... people will still bootleg it anyway, so why piss off the few who want to hear the songs outside of the convention? It's not like the recordings will be studio quality! |
Togg 06.06.2006 05:51 |
I was amused by the comment "I will be asked things I am not allowed to answer" what... well I can understand if someone asks for Brian's home address or John's car registration, but other than that what in the world could you ask Greg that could possibly be considered secret? He's the Queen archivist for god's sake not Roger's bank manager, what can he possibly think he knows that has anyone would consider sensitive. And if someone was to ask a simple question that he is not permitted to answer, what's wrong with saying I don't know! or I can't answer that. In a world where a few clicks of a mouse can lead you to people earnings, home addresses, business interests and political interests, what the hell does it matter if they admit, yes we recorded all of wembley 1980! As for the challenge, just ask what you need to know or are unsure of, there are plenty of people here who will help if you ask politely! Come on, for goodness sake just get over it and move on, we might get somewhere, stop re-hashing the same old broken record, if you would like help tell us specifically what you need to confirm, someone here will know the answer. |
Benn 06.06.2006 12:21 |
Something that has constantly confused me here is Greg's (if indeed it is him) combative attitude towards the Queen fans on this site. Queen prided themselves on their relationship of their fans and were extremely proud of the loyalty their fans showed them for many years. Why would someone that appears to be so desperate to get as much quality information as he can, potentially alienate people that MIGHT be able to help him? I can't believe that an organisation who DEPEND on the loyalty of the band's fan base would actually employ someone that OPENLY represents the organisation (QPL) and PUBLICLY slates their customers like that. It also seems odd to me that someone in the position of being the "Queen Archivist would post under their job title as opposed to their real name if they had nothing to hide in the first place. At the end of the day, whose going to buy a book by someone that is already renowned in the music industry for compiling sub-standard projects (Concert File, FM Box Set etc) when there are infinitely cheaper and more immediately accessible ways of finding things out? But then again, perhaps QPL has lapsed into such a state of ambivalence towards Queen fans that they have given people carte blance to go ahead and say or do exactly what they want to in the hope that all they have left in the fan base are the people that will buy anything and everything. I've resigned myself to the fact that we will never agains see anything of real quality from the Queen machine. The box set rumors are nothing but a ruse by QPL to keep long-term / hard core collectors interested - they were first mooted in 1992 and, 14 years later, we still have no evidence of any work having been done. What makes us think that this will change in the next 14 years? Greg dusting off a few snippetts of archive material for the Conventions every year is about as good as it is going to get I fear. Still, if you want to go to a weekend-long disco with nothing but Queen music, there's your box set all wrapped up in a tidy little weekend in Butlins! We all need to move on I think and hope that Brian, Roger and Paul can forge something new for the coming years to keep them in the public consciousness. |

The time lapse is utterly ridiculous. I'd love to see the project turnaround time for the Beatles' Anthologies...Dylan's Bootleg stuff...even The Who's Maximum R'n'B (an excellent, highly recommended package). It's never going to match 14 years. What was the turnaround time for the Freddie boxset, from concept to delivery? And can I say, if the best they have to offer are the demo's and odds and sods that I've listened to in the past, they can fucking keep them. There's a reason half that stuff wasn't on albums... Also, I hope any live offering has a fuck's sake better quality than those offered through QOL's bootleg sections. Cheers - rant over. |

Here is a straight, honest question to Greg - Have you been involved in any way, (either advising, selecting etc...) in the official bootlegs available for download? Hopefully you can answer this straight forward question clearly Cheers Chris Smith (user name cmsdrums) |

sorry but im with Greg on this case, there have been multiple times when someone asked a very good question to Greg, and then before he got a chance to answer some fucked up twat (pardon my french) would jump in and demand some uploads or some releases by QPL. and when Greg tells us politly he cant answer the question or do the "DEMANDED" task, he gets a gob ful back, as if he is being selfish and keeping it to himself. QPL and Greg have there reasons for not releasing material! it would be nice to hear and see some great shows but for reasons they cant explain they cant. End of story. He is doing his job and no one is helping, some do try to help but it is instantly jepordised by the tossers on this site! they use it as an advantage to get something of there chest just because of the way QPL runs. Heres a hint guys, if YOU yourself think you can do a better job, you do it yourself then, go get a pen and some paper and write a book, you make the definitave guide, but in the end i know whos i would buy. And heres another hint, if EVERY last thing WAS released, there would be nothing to look foreward to anymore, since the tour is over, you have the full collection, theres nothing left to release or to buy, it would all be over. Have you not thought they release only the best of everything instead of everything all together! they give you the best they have in the archives! there might eb better shows but in the end, another show might sound better over soundboard! e.g. i think Manheim sounds 100X better than Wembley 86, but what can i do? nothing. GIVE THE GUY A BREAK AND GROW UP! Greg, if you ever feel like you want help, drop me an email, i might not know too much but i could tell a great story from Newcastle 2005 if it would ever help. I think you need to realize that the fact that Greg is employed by Queen Productions doesn't make him free of flaws, both in personality and output of work. You obviously must be blind as a bat if you can read Greg's posts here and still inherently support him. |

yes but EVERYONE MAKES MISTAKES, NOBODY IS PERFECT! He isnt! you are not and neither is anyone else! so for fucks sakes shut the fuck up and lay off him! again if i were you Greg i would just stay away from this place or least give it a rating and a comment in your next book, im thinking somethign like.... "websites of intrest- Queen Online-official website etc etc Queenzone-has its good points, but alot of bad ones, mainly the lack of maturity and the amount of critisings and put downs given by alot of its members" something like that Paul |

Good work Detective Dickhead! As for point no. 3... you don't think anyone believes that crap do you? Unless I see a photo of you standing above a dead elephant and holding a big blunderbuss, I'd say you're full of it. *YOU* go fuck yourself! Ungrateful bastard... |

You did the job 99% correctly, and the shuttle exploded in space. Would you say, "If you had a job of this magnitude, you'd make a mistake or two yourself!" ?? That's exactly what Greg said when people noticed the errors in his book. Wrong dates, wrong songs, wrong quotes, wrong pictures. Hundreds of them. If he can't do the job right, then he shouldn't have the job, period. It is logic. There should be no discussion. And don't come back telling any critic of his work, "you have no right to comment unless you write a better book yourself". That's a cop-out. It has no grounds. Whether or not someone has the ability to see the errors has no relation to whether or not they are a published author. I honestly can't believe there are people like you who turn a blind eye to everything he's done wrong. Do you honestly think Greg has handled himself here with tact and respect? Do you think it's correct for the archivist of one of the world's greatest bands to go to common fans for chart information? Do you think it's right that he has ignored virtually every serious question that has been sent to him? And I suppose you see no problem with him publically saying how Queen's demos are "his" rarities? Give me a break. You belong at QOL with the rest of the stepford fans. We're trying to have a constructive conversation here, and you're contributing nothing of use. |

Sir GH, >>>Wrong dates, wrong songs, wrong quotes, wrong pictures. Hundreds of them. If he can't do the job right, then he shouldn't have the job, period. The fact is that it appears that no one connected with the QPL organisation actually does any sanity checking or any proof-reading. How can it be that OFFICIALLY sanctioned product that is so UTTERLY flawed can be allowed to hit the street? Not only in it's first edition (which you can kind of excuse in some ways), but in a revised edition which is absolutely inexcuseable as there appears to have been no revision of the original material. It's nothing more than laziness and an apathy towards the fan base that has grown ever since Freddie's death. >>>I honestly can't believe there are people like you who turn a blind eye to everything he's done wrong. The sad this is though, that I can! These are the people that seem to be under the impression that if they remain positive and chummy towards Greg, they will be in some kind of privellaged position when it comes to him looking forhelp again. They believe that he will remember the people that supported him and perhaps let them in on some of the *secrets* or have a preview of some kind of rarity. They live in some bizarre world of fantasy which makes them believe that they are in the "inner circle" just because they have had an e-mail from the guy. It's strangely pathetic really but funny in equal measure. Until professionals are employed to handle the band's catalogue and history, we will continue to have these debates and we will also continually have the decision to make as to whether to take a chance on buying further Queen product that is likely to be sub-standard. Imagine, as an author of non-fiction, having your target audience so vehemently questioning your integrity and challenging with fact? Pretty embarassing........eh? |
Togg 09.06.2006 08:48 |
I have to agree with the last two speakers! Not only is his work well below par ( I work in a world where the client is king and mistakes in proof-reading that slip though can cost thousands to put right, we simply don't allow things to go out at that level) but also his conduct towards anyone that questions him is appauling. He behaves like a spoilt child and I think deserves to be treated like one. |
Fenderek 09.06.2006 09:11 |
I agree with you guys. I remeber he agreed to answer few questions on QOL a while back. The ones that were really interesting (i.e. about IS THIS THE WORLD WE CREATED piano version) he completely ignored- fair enough, he can't talk about that... But than I asked a series of questions about the book... " Fenderek Why is there still Keep Yourself Alive, Stone Cold Crazy and HANGMAN in the Golders Green setlist in the newly UPDATED book when almost everybody knows it they DIDN'T play them... You even mentioned a transcript tape- and on it you can hear a guy saying that they "WON'T BE PLAYING THEIR LATEST SINGLE K.Y.A."... THIS WAS A PRINT ERROR. THEY PRINTED THE WRONG PAGE – NOT MY ‘AMENDMENTS’. JIM JENKINS GAVE ME ALL THE CORRECT STUFF, BUT THEY PRINTED WHAT YOU SEE. VERY ANNOYING, BUT SOON TO BE RECTIFIED. Why is there Spread Your Wings in Houston'77 setlist when it's obvious (for those owning an audio or video) they DIDN'T play it... BECAUSE I MADE A MISTAKE, IT SEEMS. YOU MIGHT HAVE MADE ONE OR TWO MISTAKES IF YOU HAD TAKEN ON A TASK THE MAGNITUDE OF THIS BOOK – BEFORE THE INTERNET EXISTED. Why there are still many mistakes in the newly updated QUEEN LIVE book? SEND ME A LIST AND I’LL RECTIFY THEM. I REALLY WILL. ALSO... WHEN I PUT A MESSAGE OUT TWO YEARS AGO, ON ALL THE MAJOR SITES, ASKING FOR FANS TO SEND ME DETAILS OF ANY SUCH ERRORS THEY KNOW OF, PEOPLE LIKE YOU DID NOT BOTHER TO DO SO. EVERY SINGLE PERSON THAT REPLY... I DID ACTION THEIR COMMENTS. THAT’S WHY MANY ERRORS HAVE NOW GONE. SO I SAY AGAIN AGAIN AGAIN... SEND ME A LIST AND I’LL RECTIFY THEM. " So, about Houston he says that it's before internet existed... But I am talking about the REVISED VERSION! Than he asks if I send him the lsit of errors... Bloody hell- when I heard that he's revisiting the book I thought- Queen archivist doesn;t need an Email from some Polish fan who lives in England who probably knows fuck all about the band compared to the guy who went (apparently) through all those tapes... Guess what- I was bloody wrong! The book is so bad it actually contardict itself. And you don't need to be Queen expert to notice that- just a bit of accuracy. The year 1973 is all wrong- he gives one setlist in text (copy / pasted few times), than in the section of USUAL SETLISTS (probably copy / pasted from Martin's site) ge gives a setlist that doesn't match ANY setlist that he has provided in the main text6!!! So how come is it the usual one? Hell, is this not an embarassing mistake? Anyway- i guess THEY printed wrong page... |

"BECAUSE I MADE A MISTAKE, IT SEEMS. YOU MIGHT HAVE MADE ONE OR TWO MISTAKES IF YOU HAD TAKEN ON A TASK THE MAGNITUDE OF THIS BOOK – BEFORE THE INTERNET EXISTED."
That's the quote I was referring to. How pathetic. Ugh, that's not the word for it. We need a word that means "pathetic x 1000".
The year 1973 is all wrong- he gives one setlist in text (copy / pasted few times), than in the section of USUAL SETLISTS (probably copy / pasted from Martin's site) ge gives a setlist that doesn't match ANY setlist that he has provided in the main text6!!!" So how come is it the usual one? Hell, is this not an embarassing mistake? Anyway- i guess THEY printed wrong page...Hahaha... yeah, it doesn't take much to notice that error, too. He got only ONE setlist from US 1974 correct... Portland. And that's only because I sent it to him! I sent that one particularly because he got it wrong in the first book, and I assumed he'd get the other ones from the tour right... I made the same kind of assumption Fenderek made: "He's the archivist, so he should have the resources to get the other setlists." But now I've learned never to make assumptions, especially when it comes to Greg. Everything he says, does, and writes, I question it and think about it before taking it as truth. The last few posts are a breath of fresh air. Good to know there are still people with some sense. But guys, we really shouldn't be discussing this in this particular topic. This was JSS's topic for Greg... |

Of course, the other question that begs answering is: How did QPL "find" Greg and what criteria did they use in order to "sort the wheat from the chaff" and end up employing him? |
Negative Creep 12.06.2006 08:48 |
Put it this way - no one else was approached. If it was indeed QPL that approached anyone in the first place. |
Fenderek 12.06.2006 11:54 |
No- he admitted in the same interview that HE approach them... |
Negative Creep 12.06.2006 15:26 |
Correct. They didn't really know each other & he isn't an archivist. Strange business, QPL. |
Togg 13.06.2006 03:52 |
Greg was in the right place at the right time, and had already I believe published his first edition. It is a shame that QP didn't look a little further before selecting him. I can understand why they chose him, here was this guy that appeared to have done all this work and loved the band, they needed someone to help and didn't need to look any further. I was pretty supportive of him until recently, however the last year or so and particularly the recent posts have left me thinking without hestitation that he is clearly not suitable to represent them. I am appauled at him behaviour, and if I ever do meet him I will certianly look him in the eye and tell him so. And for that matter if I ever run into Jim Beach again (as I do from time to time)I will have a word in his ear, not that I guess he cares in the slightest. |
john bodega 13.06.2006 04:42 |
Hah taylorgaga should be the archivist. The box set would be a note saying 'You are ungrateful bastards, I'm not giving you anything'. |
