Many FLAC recordings shared here in QZ are mp3 sourced?
Why FLAC is considerated better than mp3?
I'm going to answer this question ONCE. The next person to ask this gets flamed.
Some FLAC recordings were MP3 sourced. The people who put them up rightfully got yelled at and took them down. There is always the chance of one sneaking in and none of the downloaders having the ears to hear it, but that's a remote chance
FLAC is better than MP3 because it is lossless. With MP3, audio-data is LOST. Forever. Cannot be restored. With FLAC, no part of the audio-signal is removed, so the quality does not deteriorate, which it does with MP3.
i actually spoke to the inventor of FLAC files...and he assures me it is all a con. they are not "lossless" they are actually 128kbs mp3 files with loads of empty space to make the file look bigger ;-)
A secret that'll shatter the lossless audio trading community and will prevent future generations from actually owning the best possible versions of the concerts. :S
So dark the con of FLAC files... hehe :)
I feel robbed...
I opened this thread hoping at least for:
FLAC slept with Robbie Williams
The secret love child of Bono is FLAC
FLAC is the power behind the global conspiracy of the military/industrial complex...
Instead all I get is technical stuff...
Come back Mulder...all is forgiven. And bring that foxy Scully with you...

Sorry, I am young, and I just wanna know hat it is.
In short:
When you convert a song from cd to mp3 format, you lose quality. However, if you convert from cd to flac format, you don't lose quality. So, if someone converts from mp3 to flac, it's not true flac quality, because it lost quality when it was converted to mp3.
Mp3 is like resizing an image on the pc. It is smaller but you have quality loss because it changes (encoding to mp3 removes stuff you "cant" hear)
Flac is like putting an image in a zip file. It makes it a little bit smaller. But the original quality is kept because it moves the packages of info closer to each other to save space.
