I deleted the account. I would have preferred it if Barry had emailed me instead of getting emails from concerned board users. Anyway, maybe he was not in a condition to think about other people. Nobody can find out your IP address, only Richard has access to the user database. Whenever you send an email from your home computer, you give away much more information than when you post on QZ. It's different in the chat room. Mirc allows all users to see the IP address of the other chatters. Some people find it funny to annoy other users by re-posting the IP address in the main chat but the operators try to stop this behaviour. Posting user information anywhere outside the chat room leads to the permanent ban of the user who posts that information. Most people just want to have fun in the chat room and most users do not have a fix IP address, so there is not much harm done. As to the hub - the hub is a private community, users have to apply for an account, so the users don't need to be afraid of random hackers. It's definitely more dangerous to visit warez websites than to use the hub. If you are concerned, speak to the hub operators. In all the years I have been in the hub there was never a case of virus or hacking. However, it's always better to be safe than sorry, so please do not download any .exe files or any unknown file types from the hub. Message a hub operator who can take care of the situation. |
