Hello everyone!
Most of Queen fans (and I myself) always thought that delay system was broken at the Hyde Park gig so Freddie had to perform the song without any echoes. But some time ago I was browsing on Queen Traders forums and saw a Sir GH’s message and let me quote him :
Sir GH:
“It should be noted that the audience recording proves that there was nothing wrong with Freddie's microphone or the PA system, or whatever. We clearly hear the first line of BoRhap fast, and both echoes during The Prophet's Song. It must have been the recording equipment that failed, or the person at the mixing board doing the recording who messed a few things up. Who was the sound engineer again? John Etchells?”
So … I've tried to recreate that delays using audio editing software (Adobe Audition). Audio was taken from the QTV DVD. I’ve never heard the audience recording and I did not know the time of delay that was set by equipment on the actual concert so I had to experiment a little. I don’t know how close I get. But anyway here it is. link
video will follow soon
On the "Prophet's Song" segment on the Classic Albums: Making of ANATO DVD, they had the echoes restored on there as well.
I don't know if it was artificially recreated, or if it came from the proper multitrack tapes themselves.
