If Queen+PR decide on during some more dates which seems more realistic now...ie Mexico and Scotland...do you guys think Roger will play with a third rack tom...or will he stick with the same 6 piece set he is currently using...I would love to see a 14" on his drumset!...Cheers!
I think he will use this kit for a long time, he seems very happy with it and has said it's the best sounding kit he has had.
I think the lack of the 14 is in effect a homage to John Bonham, Roger has always stated that his kit is basically the Bonham set with additions, well this one is now much closer.
It says it's a 10 and 14 on Queen concerts but I don't think that's correct I think it's the 13x12 tom on this set.
Some of the cymbals are not correct on Queen concerts at the moment either they don't list the large K ride to his right and they say one of the crash cymbals is a 19" crash when I believe it's a 20" crash/ride.

Well, if it's not correct, why don't you email me your correction?
I have spoken to three drummers who have put this info together. They still might be wrong but maybe you're wrong. Any further discussion is welcome.
Will do Mr Scully, I am in the process of attempting to confirm my belief however this is what I (think) he is currently using
15" Avedis Zildjian New Beat hihats brilliant finish
17" K Dark med thin crash brilliant finish
18" K Dark med thin crash traditional finish
20" K Crash/Ride traditional finish
22" Avedis Zildjian Ping Ride brilliant finish ?
24" K Ride Traditional finish ?
22" Oriental China Trash brilliant finish
Note the two ride cymbals are the ones I am not sure of, you changed the ride to a ping recently and I think that is probably correct, however it could be a Medium ride, the very large cymbal on his right (us tour) is certainly an old K of some type and must be a 24" looking at it which they don't make anymore, I am trying to find out if they ever did make one that big. The China must be a 22" if the ride is a 22" looking at it, not the 20" you have on your site.
One other thing the large tom is I believe a 13x11, not a 14. Check out shots of the bigger kit and you can see the tom is smaller than the one at the Freddie tribute.
Don't get me wrong your site is fantastic, and checking this is very difficult. I have in fact spoken to you and you in the past, and I have asked Roger for a break down of his current set but I'm not holding my breath!!!
Anyway I love your site and I hope I can confirm at some stage my additions accurately.
hmm, i personally think this is a great sounding kit, out of any band i've heard recently, it's well up at the top. however i'm suprised he hasn't got that third tom. he lost it in around 2002, bringing it back for the 46664 concert later on, but then dropped it again. there must be a reason for this, maybe because he has to mount them separately now, since the bass drum has no tom holders in it. it might be easier to just stick with two.
I think he has done it for more of an 'Old School' retro look much like the Led Zep days and early Queen days.
It's become a bit of a fashion of late in drumming circles and a lot of old and new drummers are playing slimmed down kits as a homage to the early days, and also to get away from the excess of the 70's 80's rock band look.
The new kit works well for the more R&B feel Paul Rodgers brings to the band.
I am sure had he wanted to have a third tom he would have it is unlikely to be for mounting reasons.

Yes, the kit itself may sound great live, but I haven't been a fan of the Queen drum sound on record ever since Justin Shirley-Smith came aboard. No offence, but I even prefer the 80's drum sound (excluding the electronic drums, of course) to ROTC. Maybe it's just me, but I think they should use some one else than Justin Shirley-Smith for a change.

That's a shame I think the current kit has a wonderful ring to it, if you listen to the 'Making of A Night At The Opera' and go to the 'Half A Sonic Volcano' section you hear the kit in a studio with only a little processing on it, there is a natural ring from the maple toms that sounds wonderful. Because the kit is pretty big 24"x 20" bass !!!!! it produces a very deep ring and in ROTC we get a really big sound which is fantastic on the solo parts and I'm in love with my car, but can get a little lost in the full on stuff with everyone playing.
Personally I think it's the best sound he has had I love it and the sound on Super live in Japan is wonderful check it out.
I never really liked the 80's sound much this is much closer to his original sound that we would have heard had we been to an old 70's concert.
I know nothing about drumming but to me Roger's kit always sounds a bit too weak (all gigs since 1992). And since the drum kit is good enough, where is the problem?
1. Roger?
2. Drums tuning?
3. Justin? Trip?
Not sure, I think it would be fair to say that since Brian is now joined with Jamie the guitar output is pretty dominant. When it was just the four of them his kit would have come across more.
Certainly on ROTC and the new Japan DVD the guitar is stronger than any Queen video I have ever seen, just listen to the CD of ROTC and you will get my drift, from the intro right through the guitar is far more prominent than ever before.
The mix will certainly have something to do with it, but my view is that Roger simply has more to compete with these days, his tuning is pretty much the same as always and the kit is pretty much the same, big sizes, etc, Roger is even playing with heavier sticks these days.
One thing though, I do think he plays slower and not so hard as the old days, in fact all the songs are slower these days, he was always a heavy hitter but this might have a little to do with it.
My vote goes to much more going on, four- five vocals sometimes plus two guitars and major keyboards, the drums will have to fight to get heard as much as before.
Of course it might just be that Roger likes it that way!
