What do you guys think?
Is it too early to have 9/11 related movies, or is it time to move on?
Personally I think it's a good time to move on. However, it kinda sickens me that Universal hasn't made a statement saying that a good portion the proceeds for the movie will go towards the Flight 93 memorial in PA. They actually have a link for the website collecting proceeds, but no word on how much money they're putting towards it.
Someone mentioned that they're only giving away 10% of the proceeds, which seems like almost nothing.
I also think it's time to move on. Doesn't mean we'll forget what happened, just that we've grown from the experience (yes, I'd like to believe that actually happened). Truthfully, I was very surprised when I heard they were making this movie. It seemed cold and callus to me, like they were sensationalizing the horror.
Okay, as I wrote that, something else occurred to me - There are movies about the Titanic, the Holocaust, Vietnam. Hell, even Selena's life and death was made into a movie. I guess a movie about 9/11 is not so odd after all. And if it educates the children, or gets them to ask questions, then maybe it is a good thing.
Personally, I've no desire to see it. I lived through 9/11 and it's aftermath. From my living room windows, I saw the smoke from the towers. I smelled the stench of destruction and saw the pain in the eyes of every New Yorker. I remember it clearly. I don't need a Hollywood production to remind me what 9/11 was like.
Do you think the families are for this? Maybe they see it as a tribute to their sons/daughters? I wonder. If it helps them heal, then I supposed it's serving a good purpose.
Damn. Did I even answer the question?

Wow! What a wonderfully detailed life you lead!
I would say that it's totally pointless dwelling on things as tragic as terrorist attacks... although, a film might actually bring an insight to what people went through on that day.
I would probably go and see it myself.
As for the dwelling...well, we all still remember World War 2 simply because it was an unforgetful event and countless films have been made based on it. 9/11 is also something impossible to forget, so a film can portray how much of an impact it really was on the victims, the families and friends of victims and the whole world.
It might really open peoples eyes towards terrorism. Who knows?
I can't believe they're building that ugly 'freedom tower'! Who the hell would wanna be in a building on a site where so many people died...it should be made it a nice memorial garden or something...not a fucking office tower!

Funny, because I had hoped they'd rebuild the towers exactly as they were. Seriously. I think it would be a fitting tribute to the victims because it would be like thumbing our nose at the terrorists. Building anything else - or nothing at all - doesn't make sense to me. Give us back our skyline, engrave the names of the victims somewhere prominent on the buildings, erect a memorial garden inside the lobbies... but don't let the bastards win by keeping that space empty. Just my .02
