Well, I wanted to try to mix a 'unusual' song, and came up with Coming Soon.
It's not their best song, but I like it, and I've tried to make this version a bit different, more dynamic (at least, that's what I think).
Please comment, enjoy link
It’s so nice to hear a remix of a “neglected” song such as this one. Although I’m no expert when it comes to mixing I did enjoy what you’ve done with this song. I especially liked the fact that Freddie’s lead vocals sound a lot ‘crisper’ than on the original recording.
Hmm... sorry to throw a turd in the fountain, but I'm not quite so keen on this one. There's a small bass surge at 1:24, where you've doubled up with the drums (which, in itself, is great idea), and parts of the track sound slightly 'empty', like there's something missing. I realise this is where you have used isolated channels from the 5.1 mix, and I don't think it's because you have done it badly - it perhaps just doesn't work so well with this track, which is quite stripped down in the first place. I like the intro, and the vocal delay effects are well placed, but there are changes to the drum sound here and there, which make it sound slightly uneven.
A good effort, Dan, from an unusual track, and well worth a challenge. Your ideas for this track are good, but for me, this remix somehow doesn't work as well as your Ga Ga mix. Just my opinion. :)
Great mix! Sounds very different, sometimes exciting. Though it's not one of the band's true classics it IS an underrated song and deserves more exposure. I really like this very much indeed!
I like the mix...like it a lot..
With the single exception of the chorus. I much prefer the layered chorus of the original, as opposed to this way. The music here, to me, is far superior to the original, kind of a stripped down number. That said, I'd have left the chorus part multi-tracked....
Well done!! Gives the number a new lease on life, I think.
