Hi everybody,
encouraged by Daniels great Radio Ga Ga mix, I tried to do same with One Year of Love. It's one of my favourite tracks of the Magic album. I left the basic skeleton of the song as much as possible. Only a few changes in volume and bass. Hope you like it: link
cheers
Certainly not bad, only I would have made the intro a bit shorter, but that's my opinion ;)
The edit at 2:47 isn't that bad but it's too obvious because of the volume that's a bit louder.
And the edit at 6:06 fits perfect, only it's just a bit too obvious (because of a very very very small gap. ;)
Overall certainly not bad, maybe a bit too long.
But the versions are well melted together and I love to hear the perfect version of this mix. :)
Thanks for your comments,
with the edit at 2:47 you're right, i will chuck that out. This edit at 6:06 was planned that way. I will keep it, i like it that way. As I said nothing special this mix. I was an hour of work at all. Glad that you like it anyway
cheers
Yup, another good mix (I really must get off my arse and do something!), and one of Freddie's best vocal performences from that era. Hate the drum sound though, and this is another track which could have been done so much better if there had been some guitar, and a proper 'live' drum sound, rather that that horrible electronic snare, which sounds like it's being hit through a pillow. The 2:47 edit is better in the second version, but 6:06 still sounds like a slightly poor edit to me. Maybe if you overdubbed the strings across the edit, it might sound smoother? Just a thought.
Pretty nice. But that 6:06 edit doesn't sit well with me either. Since you say you like it like that, I guess no matter how many tell you about it, you're not going to change it.
The only thing that made me feel a bit miffed was the use of the extended edit, from the highlander dvd set, for so long. Mainly because it's obvious to me that that was used right up to the bits where Freddie starts singing. But it's better utilised in later parts of your edit.
I'd have mixed it up even more and presented a new intro. The extended edit's first 10 or so seconds, then a bit of guitar feedback from another track. And finally bringing in the normal version of the track with verse 1 and chorus 1 for a bit before using the extended edit's instrumental parts. Variety. Just using the extended edit for nearly two minutes was kinda boring for anyone who's heard that before because it's so... well, lifted.
Peace,
Adam.
EDIT: Or heck, instead of going from that new intro I discussed into the first verse, maybe go into the sax solo.
Alright Adam i get your point. Hope not to sound ignorant by not changing the 6:06 edit. I works for me. Would be interesting if you could upload your version Adam. Possible ?
cheers
You want me to do a version? Well, I could try and find the time. It's my last month at college and I'm starting to get a little edgy with how I spend my time. Let's file this under, "we'll see..."!
Peace,
Adam.
Hi Adam,
would be nice if you could a version based on mine with all this nice suggestions you made. Otherwise being a student myself i know how limited time is. We'll see my friend....
cheers
