I decided to open a new thread and copy what I wrote in another one. A call for real experts dedicated collectors, people with apssion and talent... We can do something BIG! link An idea. Create a group of people. Let's make a group of people, devoted enough to trading and trying to obtain really rare (or interesting) bootlegs (audio or DVD, whatever) in as low quality as possible... Someone was talking about The Who fans... Let's do just that! Maybe not spending thousands of pounds, but give what we can- someone will find something nice, someone else will edit it nice, someone else will make menu and so on- different people have different talents... We don't have to live near each other- and I guess an initiative like that could work! All we would need is few people with some real skills, knowledge and dedication, people who DO care about quality, people who don't think there's no difference between mp3 and WAVE... What we need is good collectors, good editors, dedicated fans... Well? I think we COULD do it- the question is- who would be up for it? I think that could work, don't you? We can complain until we're blue on the face- that won't change anything. We can- on the other hand- join our forces and do something... By joining the efforts in trading we could easier find more interesting stuff (one person will make contact wih someone in point A, the other one will make contact with someone in point B- they want each others gigs, we are in the middle, we get both of them). Three or six people trading and devoting their time will have more chances than one. We could pull it off!!! I'm up for it. Anyone else? I'm dead serious- that could work...! At the end of the day that could benefit various projects... Our knowledge of the band would be greater, it could better any future Queen Live projects ;) and it would maybe result in few things (CDs, videos) that could compete with Who / Floyd / Zeppelin stuff... That's what I can think of... Already one collector responded (hi Julien! will Email you soon!). :) We can do it BIG. And ignore Trancers, mp3 lovers, eBay sellers and stuff... At the end of the day- we can put some Love and Dedication to the band into the project that could change the community... At the moment Queen fans/traders community, compared to others is a joke... Can we change it? We can't change others, that's for sure. But we can do something OURSELVES. "You must be the change you want to see in the world" said a wise man once ;) |

Nice idea, I'm actually allready DOING something simillar for myself. I have edited in the cut tracks from Brian's Brixton gig and Queen's Budapest gig (audio from bootlegs, video from different parts of the night) and I'm quite satisfied. Currently I'm trying to do some miracles with Knebworth. I WOULD be interested in helping you - pittrek (at) hotmail (dot) com. |

Seems like that within the community there's a need for something like that!!! I guess the next logical step (Julien's idea) is an independent, beautifully looking, and full of all possible information web site, with FORUM (without discussions about John's wherebouts ;) ) as a direct contact point. |
Pim Derks 27.04.2006 08:03 |
I'd be happy to design a website too :) |

I'd also like to help as I'm sure my audio skills are up to it! Also, since I just released two dvd's for my theatre, I'm up to video editing, authoring and artwork duties. But I'm guessing there are better artwork makers out there! Peace, Adam. |

Could I make a wee suggestion? Could you add a little section for discussion/swapping/whatever for vinyl bootleg lovers? Some of us old dinosaurs are still about... It's only a suggestion...if it doesn't float your boat, no problem... Cheers |

I have been following this discussion and the birth of this project closely, and even if I can't contribute with either skills or source material I would like to leave my thoughts and sugestions. First of all let me say that I AM what you call a LEACHER. Yes, I mostly download files from this and other forums and ocasionaly I get to share something I got here on another forum and vice-versa. Second, I believe there is a place for MP3 trading/sharing. I can't forget that the first Queen bootlegs I got to listen too where shared in this format right here at Queenzone and by Martin at his old website. MP3 are good to listen and get to know what is out there, but they should never be traded for lossless material. This said, I would like to leave the following suggestions regarding the web site part of the project. I don't think that whe need a new website and forum. What we do need is to organise what we currently have, an by this I mean part the watters here at Queenzone. Instead of having a single forum for sharing and trading let's separate them. create one forum for sharing (Bit Torrent only) and a separate forum for traditional trading (Mail, B&P, Vines, etc) We realy need to enforce a sharing rate policy on the tracker. 1:1 seems irrealistic to me as it is dificult to newcommers to achieve that quickly (especialy if you have nothing to upload, so I think that a share ratio of 0,5 or 0,6 would be ideal. We also need to bee able to see the torrent statistics online, so everyone knows wich torrents need seeders. And finaly we need posting rules. I say no more rapidshare here, because rapidshare encourages people to compress the files into lossy formats. And when posting torrents you must give all the information possible on the recording, the minimum being: Venue: Source: Lineage: Quality: Format: Tracklisting: links to queenconcerts don't cut it. Currently I am ignoring any torrent that doesn't have this information, because it renders the files useless for trading later on. Cheers and keep up the good work. |

Well I am not making a site specifically for this project, but if people want to use it then that is fine. |

I've already posted this idea before in another topic but it went ignored by then, so I don't know if it's any future to this. The Queen fan community is quite a peculiar one. Anyway, as I already said, I'm available for anything that I can be helpful. Here's my trading site with my (yet small) video collection: link There's my mail to anyone who wants to contact me too. Of course, in a project like this, we're aiming to the LOW generation tapes, so I don't know if I'm the man to feed this, but I'm available anyway. I REALLY hope this can go to an effective direction. We will need a name (QZDVD is a good one), a brand new INDEPENDENT (very important) site, but most importantle, people who want to feed this with quality material. Just my two cents... Cheers |

Sounds like a great idea! I have been doing this for my own archive of recordings (including some from QUEEN). By the eay, I have been involved in audio and video production since 1997. P.S: "As low quality as possible"??? My guess is that you meant "as low generation as possible". |
