It started as a ringtone craze and now it's ruining music! I liked 'Axel F' (the theme from the movie Beverly Hills Cop), but now I really can't listen to it because of that Crazy Frog techno cover of it. We saw what happened when William Hung covered WATC. And we also remember...Robbie Williams *shudder* ...gives me a chill just thinking about it lol So, in short, this will really suck. |

It´s the Queen revolution again! With all these kids today being introduced to Queen music, i think it´s a second comeback for them. The real shock is going to be when these younger fans find out that Freddie is dead :)) If you think about it, it´s weird. I mean, these guys never leave the charts since his dead in 1991, so it´s possible that the youngsters don´t know who the hell is Freddie, and think he´s still alive!! They thought CLTCL was an Elvis song!!! Take care |

I know I should not get upset anymore after Pepsi commercial, Sun single release and Viagra commercial but the fact that Freddie's song is sold away to such a non-music, pure commercial company makes me really sad. From now on sarcastic laughter is the only appropriate response to the WWRY musical intro and I hope people realise the extend of the hypocrisy. I am not worried about the song. For me, WATC has always been the strongest and most personal song by Freddie. It's so strong because it's not just a "winner song", it does include losing and the will power and perseverance it takes to cope with the ups and downs in life. That's why everybody can relate to it, you don't need to be a super star or a world champion to understand that winning always requires effort and fight and losing is always an option. Crazy Frog is the sheer contrary of this idea, it's about a quick buck with virtually no effort and no creativity. Therefore, it will always be Freddie's song which is played in the stadiums and not some commercial crap. I am sure they will still play it when nobody really remembers who the hell Brian May was. |

I was gonna post the exact same thing Gnomo, but I first wanted to find Brian's post about it on his Soapbox, and after a long search I've still found nothing. I don't see how the rule can be universal (that anyone can cover any song, as long as appropriate copyright is attributed and appropriate royalties paid) but as far as I remember Brian did say he and QP had no control over these things. Besides, the Crazy Frog is just one of hundreds, if not thousands, of sub-standard and artistically-lacking acts who've covered Queen songs. This isn't anything new. Just look at one of JSS's very comprehensive lists of cover-versions of Queen songs. |
YourValentine 27.04.2006 15:59 |
I did not say it's Brian's decision, I only mentioned him because he is the best known living band member.

But even if they can just take the song and do what they want, there would be nobody in the world who could force QOL and brianmay.com to reprint the press release without any comment and there is no law in the world that could keep the band from saying they don't like it. It's true that there are hundreds of lousy acts who cover Queensongs but many of them respect and like the music and play the songs because they like them while this computer music company does not respect the song, they picked it because they expect the biggest possible profit from what is known the be the biggest sports anthem just before the FIFA world cup. |

Crazy Frog is joke! It is not supposed to be taken seriously. You are so childish for getting angry because of this :/ Get some sence of humour! |
Bobby_brown 27.04.2006 18:02 |
Don´t be mad about these thinks! This is supose to entertain people, and to be fun. Music doesn't have to be serious all the time. Queen have a good sense of humour, so there wasn´t the need to say no to the "Frog". Enjoy, and laugh... Take care |

For those who have never heard about that "frog": before it was a ringtone and in the charts, it was called "The Annoying Thing", having a video circulating on the internet. You can download it from here: link Jan PS: I wonder if he's ever going to do an AC/DC tribute album, called "For those about to frog". :-)) |

Sorry Barb. I forgot to mention the part about only needing permission to cover a song if you change the lyric (as Gnomo said). Of course, that's what I meant, as that's my recollection of the how the law works too. And I also find it had to believe that the lyrics won't be changed, but until we know otherwise I'm presuming they haven't been changed and that's why the song is being 'allowed'. |

OMG, that's so terrible:(( Today it's a sad day... The music will be bastardized for ever... I hate the frog. |
