Watching the video, does anyone else crack up at Monteserratte's gestures and facial expressions? Actually both of them are comical... If I understand correctly, Freddie's vocals were mimed, and something screwed up during the playback causing Freddie and Montserate's live vocals to be slightly out of tick with each other. Is that true? I know this is mean but Monterserate looks so huge..she really is a fat lady! LOL |

Caballe's autobiography is incredible. I have the utmost respect for her. Opera divas are dramatic in gestures and facial expressions because they must play to the far reaches of the audience. |

How can i go on is a fucking GREAT song :D |

I met with Montserrat Caballé in Essen last year, after a show there, and although she wasn't topfit, she had an incredible voice with still so much clarity and nuance in it...unbelievable ...and then that power!! She gave me a lot of time and signed zillions of things. It was filmed and broadcasted on german tv how and when i met with her...and i cherish this dvd i have from that encounter with great pride and pleasure. It seems to me, that none of you dumb asses understand either what Freddie was about or why they made this magnificant album at all...you're only laughing at things that are not even worth laughing about...it is pathetic to read what is written within this topic so far. Really not queenfan-worthy....I thought that queenfans -as we call ourselves- at least had some respect for other humans...didn't any of you learn anything at all from all the wise words and life-lessons within the lyrics of all the Queensongs? What a deception....as if you lot, are the prettiest of them all....but it sais all the more about what YOU all are...and NOTHING about Montserrat Caballé. If you can't understand what you're watching...or at least respect what they pull off there...then don't out yourselves this way on the queenzone...you really do NOT belong here if behaving like this, and writing what y'all write here... you make me feel sick with disgust....and you do not deserve any respect at all....if you don't respect others. AMEN !!! |

I like 'How can I go on' very much as a song, but I think it would have been better if Montserrat didn't sing lead vocals in it. In my opinion her style of singing (opera) just doesn't suit the song as a lead vocalist. On the other hand I really did like some of the backing vocals and ad libs she does near the end. I have listened to the Barcelona again lately and while hearing it again I think some songs could have been better, but some other songs are absolutely stunning!!! - The title track ofcourse is very good - La Japonaise in my opinion is really one of the best tracks on the album!!! But probably it so very much too unconventional to attract most people. - The Fallen Priest is a great song, but sometimes when I listen I think some parts are repeated too often. - Ensueno is one of the least good tracks in my opinion. I like Freddie's voice and although I'm not too font on opera I like hearing Montserrat's voice in most songs too, but in this song somehow the duet of both voices simply just doesn't fit well. Also sometimes it sounds like the words don't always fit the melody. I prefer both 'Exercises in free love' versions, both Freddie's and Montserrat's. - The Golden Boy, the beginning is really great, and also is the ending. The gospel part to be honest I like less. It sounds OK but just doesn't fit the song completely in my opinion. Also I think that Montserrat's lead vocals just doesn't suit the gospel part of the song. - Guide Me Home, just a small tiny little song, but very beautiful I think. - How can I go on, as I said above, I like this song a lot, but I'm not fond of Montserrat's lead vocals, they just don't fit the song. One moment I really DO like is the first slide on John Deacon's bass guitar! (on the word TAKEN in WHEN ALL THE SALT IS TAKEN FROM THE SEA) |

i think montserrat has an amazing voice, and i loved the barcelona album. |

Guide Me Home is easily my favourite, it's the only song that's ever persuaded me to sing anything. I actually don't like How Can I Go On, it's mostly because of the karaoke-machine style instrumentation (those awful sounding clicks, for instance). And on the whole, the album gives the red-arse because they use synths instead of a real orchestra. I know I'm disagreeing directly with Freddie Mercury in saying so, but I reckon real instruments might've sounded better. But don't get me wrong... magnificent album. La Japonaise is fantastic. And topic starter - you aren't that maggot who started that thread in Personal about how 'women like to get roughed up in sex'??? If so... then I'd be more inclined to laugh at you than Ms. Caballe, even if she does look like a beach ball with a clown mask stapled on. She has the virtue of a magnificent voice. |

AMEN !!!I agree with you 100%. Freddie was the first person (if not the only person) to ever write songs especially for her firstly because he admired her and secondly because he understood her voice range and control. I get chills when I listen to that cd/dvd. The whole thing is an extraordinarily ambitious triumph. Freddie - the composer! You met Montserrat Caballe? What an honor! THAT Freddie would want to colloborate with her, I can understand; but WHY she would have wanted to meet up with him is another thing as, from what little I understand about opera singers and their fans, they don't stray too far from their opera leanings, let alone to record/appear with rock band frontmen. Because of Freddie's admiration for her, and hers for him, I got curious and read her autobiography and recently rented a dvd about her life that was made in 2005. Caballe is a strong, incredible, dedicated woman. I challenge Queenzoners to rent/buy her dvd and then tell us what you think of Montserrat - Freddie is on about five minutes of it. link Here are some former Queenzone threads about the subject. link |

And I happen to think that she has an amazing voice, God-given in fact. But you take it far too personally that a couple of arses on the internet are making fun of a person who's made more of an impact on things than anyone here. You can't even pull your head out for long enough to see that she does look kinda funny. Ok I can't speak for the other posters, but I only poke fun at peoples appearances because it's been done so much to myself in the past! I sincerely don't see a problem with it, so long as it's not done with too much venom. |

As an example, I've heard any and every fat 'joke' you can and more, and all it does is hurt. Can you REALLY justify hurting someone you've never met just because someone ELSE did so to you? No. Not to me you can't. This isn't a personal attack on you, Zebonka, so much as it is a general statement brought on my your post. I've got no problem with you at all. |

And to have to read that kind of stuff about people you admire is very sad. If it is joking you are taking it too far. Maybe you would feel different if someone attacked Freddie in the same way? And the point is; treat others the way you would like to be treated. Simple. It's been a long time since I listened to the Barcelona, but I did now and it is really great. As an album. Montserrat. IMO, was a great complement to Freddie's charismatic persona on stage. |
