Anyone here buy one of the 2005 sixpence coins on this tour ? I'm working on a list. Why?...Why not! :) Please reply to this thread if you bought one of the sixpences or have a related story to tell. Thanks. |

Hello there mate... Yes, i purchased one of the 2005 coins. I had to really....bad habit of mine, as you see i also have the others in the series. The original 1993 one is far and away the best of the lot. These were actually minted by the Royal Mint and they are quite beautiful. The following addtions just don't seem to be as well made. I found it interesting to realize that Brian seems to still use the actual real UK sixpence coins to play instead of these special editions. That should tell you something.... I do enjoy these coins though.... Can anyone tell me WHY the 2004 edition is considered to be the rare one? Is it because you could only get it by going to see the WWRY Musical, or because of other reasons? |
inu-liger 20.04.2006 19:59 |
I bought one for myself (well, two originally, but...) |

Thanks 'Deacons 1st Choice' By the way...where are you located? I'd like to use perhaps first and last names on the list - OR I may just use QZone name's. I'm from Canada, as is 'Inu'. It'd be interesting to plot on a map where the owners are located as well. Like you, and thanks to 'Inu' I also have all 3 now. I must agree with you - the 1993 Editions really are the nicest of the lot. The 2004 coins (made in China?) really appear to be made 'on the cheap' with the '05 editions to be only a mild improvement. Anyone else have either of these coins ? Please pass word around to those who you know! Thanks again! |

I bought three at Vancouver (marked 2005) and I had already bought two at Dublin - been at the musical in London a few times but never even saw those they had there. Out of curiosity: why is this important? |
mr. stagger lee 21.04.2006 04:59 |
gnomo > what country are you living in ? Why is this important ? Answer -- it's not really all that important. It's just something I thought might be of some interest to someone - to see who cared to buy these little coins. I guess you could call it a survey. But I'm not doing this for any specfic reason, other than curiousity. Thanks for replying to the group. |

I found it quite odd that they were selling 2005 sixpences for a 2006 tour -- I bought a 2005 one in Las Vegas last year, so now I have two. |
mr. stagger lee 21.04.2006 08:30 |
Yes - I found it rather odd (and slightly disappointing) that they had 2005 coins for the 2006 tour. My only thought was that there was little turn-around between the end of the European tour and the beginning of the North American tour, so they couldn't get them made in time. Can both of you send me an email at beamus2000-at-hotmail.com (replace the '-at-' with '@' of course) to tell me if you mind if I use you real names for this list ? Edit: Actually - I think I'll simply put on the list names such as 'Queenzoner Whatinthewhathe' to keep those names private, if those people prefer. I would still like to know what country everyone is living in tho. Thanks in advance. |

i bought one in Pittsburgh for 2005 I was suprised i didn't see any 2006's i dunno if there are any yeah |
mr. stagger lee 21.04.2006 10:52 |
Thanks Blue_Acid. What country are you from? |
Headlong24 21.04.2006 12:50 |
Yeah I got a real one and I didn't have to buy it or hold up a sign. |
mr. stagger lee 21.04.2006 17:39 |
Headlong24 (Humour me here...) Did you get one at the concert, or are you talking about just owning one of the 'normal' sixpence coins ? ;) Thanks - heh. A. |
Headlong24 21.04.2006 20:42 |
Nope Brian handed it to me at the show in Long Island when he was on the side platform at the end of his We Will Rock You Solo. Was very cool, I'm going to try and mount it with some sort of pic of brian and try to get it signed some where down the line. It was the only one he gave out in NY although in Philly I saw him throw out two. In DC I didn't seem him throw any out. |
mr. stagger lee 21.04.2006 22:18 |
That's very interesting Headlong. I think I'll include this in the list as well. Any chance of getting a photo of the sixpence ? That said -- any other people on Queenzone who have had a similar experience please let me know. |
David Jones 22.04.2006 08:23 |
Yeah, I've got all three and I have to agree with whats been said. The 1993 ones are beautiful, a collectors item not just for Queen fans, but also for coin enthusiasts. The 2004 ones are quite ugly really, very poor, just by looking at them you can see they are cheap. The 2005 ones look better but are nowhere near the quality of the original. |
Deacons 1st Choice 23.04.2006 18:02 |
So far no one has been able to answer my question in my last post.....about why the 2004 sixpences are considered to be the "rare" ones of the lot. I am guessing because you could only get them at WWRY or the QOL shop? About where i live...as it was asked. Right here on the outskits of that grand ol' Queen City BOSTON! Yep....USA. The 93' sixpence is gorgeous. The reason it is so far superior to the other editions is that the 93's were actually minted like real coins by thr Royal National Mint if a remember correctly. I recieved mine when i attended one of many US Brian solo shows back then. The night i bought my Red Special guitar pin i was given a sixpence in a small but nice display case for free as a added bonus. Very nice! The 2004 edition i bought out in Las Vegas at the WWRY shop the day of the Premiere event. I bought several actually, and two of them i gave to friends. The 2005 edition i purchased at the recent Q+PR show in Worcester, Ma. I myself was not surprised as others were that it was not a 2006 edition. As the above illustrates, the coins are not made every year but are instead minted to coincide with a monumental event in Brian's career: His first solo tour, the WWRY Musical, and finally Q+PR's. I suppose the next edition will be in a year or so...to coincide with the NEXT big move in Queen's history! :) |

To Deacons 1st... Would you mind emailing me...beamus2000-at-hotmail.com - I'd like to add your friends' names to the list of owners, if I may ? Please let me know. Thanks everyone for replying!! David Jones - you sure are lucky - getting one of the '93's for free. I was also fortunate to have been able to make a trade for mine. Can't hardly believe that they're worth quite a pretty penny now. |

I bought one in Toronto for my husband, one in Auburn Hills for my son , and one in Vancouver for myself. We all live in Peterborough, Ontario |

I have all three coins as well. Am located in Swindon in the UK. Bought the 1993 coin during Brian's Back To The Light Tour when he played at Cardiff Ice Rink. The 2004 coin was bought from the queenonline shop. Have been to see WWRY a couple of times but all before 2004. Will be going again on Oct 7th. Last year bought the 2005 coin whilst attending the Q+PR Concert at the Sazka Arena in Prague. Was at the recent California shows but did not buy a coin as they were also the 2005. Would have bought one if they were dated 2006. |

Sasha will soon be the owner of 3 '2005' tour sixpence coins, as I JUST got her Money Order yesterday. She's from the USA ;-) |
David Jones 24.04.2006 13:36 |
I didn't get mine for free, not sure where you got that idea from! Maybe you mean Deacon's 1st Choice? I did manage to get my 2004 one for free, but thats a different matter! :-) Not sure why the 2004 is classed as rare. Maybe they were rare to begin with as they were only available in Las Vegas. But with them available in the QOL shop and also on eBay like the 2005 ones, I wouldn't call them rare any more. I certainly don't think their the most desirable of the set. Probably just sellers hyping them up to get a sale. |
smileexpert 24.04.2006 19:30 |
Oops sorry, my bad - yes I was referring to Deacon1st and the free coin. Can somebody here put a posting on QOL for this list as well ? And please ask around - I'd like to build on this list - it's growing every day right now and I'd like to continue this trend! thanks everyone for replying!! Cheers, Andrew yes...smileexpert and mr stagger lee are one in the same |
Gillian 03.05.2006 05:43 |
I purchased it too... I wanted to have something which would always remind me about my first Queen Show! Do you know if there will be (or there is already) a 2006 version? Gill. |

re: 2006 coins. I WISH there had been an '06 coin for this tour, but I'm presuming that (I think I said this earlier on) they didn't want an over-abundance of these things laying around, so they just stayed with the 2005 one's for the full tour - Europe, Japan and North America. I'm like yourself, Gillian- I am currently wearing one around my neck - kind of a good-luck charm. (thanks again, Inu) Cheers. |
