Okay, so last night, my brother was talking about "Brian May... blah blah blah..." and my step-dad said something about "You wouldn't like him if you met him. Most famous people aren't nice... blah blah blah." I know it's silly, but... I bet you guys have read and know much more about Brian, Freddie, John and Roger than I do... so, I'm just asking for an unbiased opinion on "where they nice people?" Not gushing fan love or some strange stalking spammer hatred (which that sentence will not deter, but what the hell). Just an informed opinon from people who are in a better position to have an opinion. So, though I feel like a ninny, I'm asking anyway, because I've got that sinking feeling that says my heart is at an all-time low... Oh, I did not just do that. Never. Were they people or fame-inflated monsters, nasty 'famous people'? Because I know the second type does exist... but I never got that impression... then again, here I am from a standpoint where I wasn't even born when they were in their prime. Ah, what the dickens... |

Brian is quiet and intelligent guy, when you're talking with him (my own experience). Roger is very friendly too (my own experience). He went to the pub with fans once even in the end of 80s as I remember. |

Brian was extremely nice when I met him. Roger I haven't met but after speaking to many people who did- he's cool as wekll, although ina completely different way. |

Celebrity is a double edged sword. I went to a press thing Brian did in Toronto to promote the Hollywood re-issues. The turnout was much greater than they must have anticipated, as the lineup was huge for autographs. A lady behind me cursed at Brian when it was announced that he wouldn't be able to sign for everyone as he had a plane to catch. She said she was a long time fan and that he was forgetting all of the people who made him popular in the beginning. She didn't get her albums signed, and probably thinks Brian is a grade A dick, although she didn't get within 30 feet of him. I weaseled my way into the back alley, where Brian was in his limo. He got out to sign my guitar, graciously said a few words, and I don't think I even thanked him. A total gentleman. Two different stories from the same day though, sometimes famous people can't win. |

... met Bri and Paul again last week, delightfully nice and friendly as always - feeling grateful and privileged... Like anyone else, celebrity or not, it largely depends on when and how you approach them, but they're nice guys at heart. And Roger too - never met him, but my best friend did a dozen times at least... FWIW |

Everybody knows how kind they are... very humble people...they have the humble of the greatest ones... specially Brian... you can see it in his face... I think that... |

You have no idea how cool it would be if I could tell you how great they all are, but sadly, I've not even been in the same country at the same time as them. Bugger |

Met Brian once outside WWRY in London. Real nice guy. What can I say that hasn't been said before! Haven't a clue what Roger's like, but I'd think he's probably not too dissimilar. Peace, Adam. |

i want to meet them sooo bad! Id love nothing more than to give them a hug and thank them for helping me through the roughest times of my life with their music... And for inspiring me... |

Roger is really a nice person. I have a friend who used to live nearby Roger's Surrey home and had the pleasure of speaking to Roger on the phone. I've not met Brian but I'm sure that he is just as pleasant as Roger. |

This guy my dad works with was in England on business, and he was sitting in this little bistro type thing. And he sits down at his seat, starts eating his meal, and goes to the bathroom. Comes back. Paul Frickin' McCartney is sitting at the table next to him. Hes got pictures to prove it. Lucky SOB. |

I met Brian when he left after the Rotterdam gig in 1993. I was 15 then and way too insecure to speak English and I thought I wasnt wise enough to say anything, but he thanked everybody to come to the show...I remember that clearly. And I thought: He thanked me???? And then he drove off in a disgusting pinkish colour Mercedes S-class...that old model in that time..He is so nice. He is very accessable, never met Roger though.. |
Al TurHao 21.04.2006 06:46 |
I met Roger and Brian in Lisbon, 2005. Roger is truly a cool guy. Nice, polite (didn't said much, 'cause he was tired of the show). Brian was nice, friendly but in a more diplomatic way. Please notice that they are people, so they are intitled to have bad days and bad moods, like everyone of us. Anyway my fears of possible disappointment disappeared. One of the best nights of my life. It was an experience I already posted here some time ago. |

I have met Brian May several times as I have the good fortune to live near where he does. He is a really nice man who is genuinly interested in what you have to say. One Saturday evening he turned up at the local village pub with guitar and amp and played, knowing that it was one of the locals 80th birthday. That should give you an idea of the measure of the man. |

I've been very fortunate to interview a bunch of musicians. All of them have been very nice, and in my experience, the more famous people are, the more down to earth they are. There are some guys I won't mention who aren't THAT famous, but are a bit full of themselves, which is bizarre because the guys who have written huge hits or sold millions of records tend to be pretty humble. I met Brian in a dark alley after a WWRY show at the dominion. I was with my wife and sorta stood there in a state of shock. My wife did all the talking ! He was very pleasant and wasn't in a hurry to go or anything. I think the show had been running for 2 years and he was saying there were still a few things to improve - always the perfectionist. |
boy of destiny 21.04.2006 11:29 |
Hey BHM 0271, I was at that Toronto promo too! I got lucky and was one of (if not the last) people in line and he was nice enough to sign an album for me. As for him being a nice guy, he's emailed me a couple of times and I can honestly say he's one of the most down to earth celebs out there. There are a lot of dicks out there, especially professional athletes (most Canadian ones are very normal however), but I'm sure its annoying having total strangers drooling all over you. "Fans" who sell their signed items don't really help either. People forget that celebs are just people with really cool jobs. |

Thanks everyone, for your responses. "Chances are, he did something mean, something nasty, lied, and hit someone". Chances are, he did something nice, something beautiful, and made someone's day that much brighter". That's what I'd tried to convey in a readme attatched to a current project (I despise writing biographies because people complain if I "drop something important"). It just made me upset when my step-dad implied that Brian May was a nasty jerk, since I value my step-dad's opinion. It's confounding when one gets whacked with a heavy cynical something... |

From what I have heard: Brian - VERY nice person, intelligent. Roger - Kind and has humour. Freddie (although he's dead) - He didn't like to meet a lot of people, but very kind. John - Shy and doesn't talk a lot. |
Boy Thomas Raker 21.04.2006 15:36 |
That was a pretty funny day, boy of destiny. Don't know if you recall, but 4 days before Brian's appearance at HMV, a generator caused a huge fire that took out power from Front Street to Dundas on Yonge so I had to walk from Union Station to midtown. If not for the fire, I would have never passed by HMV to see Brian's appearance. To meet him was a thrill, despite not giving a rats ass about celebrity, meeting your hero left me a bit speechless! |

I met Paul/Linda McCartney and Ringo starr back during his tour in 93 or was it 94? Besides the accent, Ringo was funny, Interesting fact we found out that Paul had a thingie in his contract to where after every show they have to wash his microphone with a full bottle of listirne or some dissifectiant(sp) |

I met Brian May in February 1977 when they played at Moody Colosieum in Dallas, Texas. I had a backstage pass and got to attend an "after-party" at a nearby hotel. I asked Brian how he made all of those cool sounds with his guitar on "Good Company" he was excited that someone understood that all of those sounds, minus the ukelele and drums, were his guitar. He went on for several minutes talking about the deacy amp and other things and I was impressed with his politeness and eagerness to talk. He was a really cool guy. John and Roger were kind of quiet and Freddie was obviously the center of attention. |

Brian was very polite when I met him, even though one time was after a concert and I'm sure he was tired. Roger was sarcastic, and you could tell he really didn't wanna be bothered. Would you expect anything less from ole Rog, though? ;-) (I suppose I'd want to get the hell outta Dodge, too, if I was being chased by the same group of girls everywhere I went!) I did manage to get a handshake and a picture, which was awesome. |

Well I met them all many times way back in the 70s and 80s. Freddie was very kind and a bit shy , totally different on and off stage. Brian is always polite however if you are in his way he will say so, he's human Roger is funny and ...special... John was quiet but in no way shy. A great dancer ! Nowadays they are "grown up" but still have no superstar attitude when you meet them. Just normal people really. |
