Dear Queen-fans! Does anyone know who is singing the "stay my love" - part in Leaving home ain't easy. Brian? Roger? Freddie? Kate Bush? Please help us solve a bet... |
Thanks 19.04.2006 18:19 |
Hopefully nobody will tell you until after we know who your money is on.... |

I'm pretty sure it was just Brian with special effects on his voice, it sort of sounds like him if you play close attention. |

Definately Brian's. Freddie and Roger never sounded like that, and John never sings lead. It also reminds me of his songs that he sang in Queen II. |

Freddie_Jr. 19.04.2006 19:10 |
I always thought it was Freddie, just the way he sings it seems like something Freddie would do,but with effects on the voice, it's obviously up for grabs who it really is. |
sandssavvy 19.04.2006 19:17 |
Yeah, I was thinking of Some day one day. The name escaped me for a moment. :) |
SomebodyWhoLoves 19.04.2006 19:18 |
Duh..it's definitely Freddie's voice. I swear, some people need their hearing checked. |
sandssavvy 19.04.2006 19:35 |
Brian's voice also has that breakable cuality that's in that voice. Now that I'm listening to the song again I have to say I'm sure it's Bri. That's not set in stone of course. |

It sort of sounds like Freddie, but when the mystery voice says "don't stray" it sounds like Brian. |

It is Brian's voice...it's just filtered through a vocoder...lots of singers use it to get different effects. |
its_a_hard_life 26994 19.04.2006 20:10 |
It's Brian. |
SomebodyWhoLoves 19.04.2006 20:11 |
oh-KA-ay! If you sAy so! I know it's Freddie's voice. |
its_a_hard_life 26994 19.04.2006 20:18 |
I do say so, it's Brian. =) |
Erin 19.04.2006 20:24 |
Brian. |
Koolkikiland 19.04.2006 20:32 |
Yeah, it's Brian. Though, it wasn't done with a vocoder. They just slowed down the tape and had Brian record his part and then sped it back up to normal speed, giving Brian's voice a female quality. I did the same thing for my cover version of Leavin' Home and it turned out about the same: Listen fer yerself: link |

It's Brian. All of the vocals on that song were sung by Dr May. Brian himself said it was him through tape manipulation. The band never used vocoders before 1980. |
Koolkikiland 19.04.2006 21:01 |
Thanks, Erin. |

I was of the impression that it was Brian and some tape-speed voodoo, but I don't know where I got that. Nicely done, Koolkikiland. |

That technique of speeding up the tape is not nice. LOL. How are we amateurs suppose to know whether it's real or not? Did Queen use this technique on Freddie's vocals? It makes you wonder now about a lot of things.... |
YourValentine 20.04.2006 01:50 |
We had the same discussion a couple of years ago. Fans wrote emails to Jacky Smith who finally asked Brian and he confirmed that it was himself singing. |
Daniel vZ 20.04.2006 06:02 |
I always tought it was Freddie |

Wow! So we're going with Brian! Thank you all you great fans for helping me out! My money was on Brian, but only because there's no other credits and I couldn't think of anyone it really sounds like. Thank you Koolkikiland for illustrating the subject and: Nice cover. Thank you Leroy Brown and Somebodytolove for understanding the importance of this problem. I guess it's time to cash in... |
Bob-Plant 20.04.2006 13:21 |
I think it's Geddy Lee... |
Lester Burnham 20.04.2006 13:29 |
It's Brian. He said so himself. The quote goes something like, "The lady's part? It's me." and then he goes on to mention something about Wheatus, but I lost track after that. |
kohuept 20.04.2006 17:47 |
Can we re-discuss how it's Freddie singing Sheer Heart Attack and not Roger. It has been a couple weeks and this thread has confused me again. Thanks! |
Micrówave 20.04.2006 18:22 |
Kate Bush, I wish! |

I find it hard to believe people really can't tell... |
JeroenG 21.04.2006 19:56 |
Can't we make a list of al Queen songs with who sings what, so that we're done with this kind of stuff and go on with our lives? ;-) |
deleted user 21.04.2006 20:42 |
Its ofcourse brian, i mean anyone who has a brain can tell it is brian :) |
