Dear Brian May and Roger Taylor:
Since going onto American Idol and being kind of dismayed by the whole ordeal especially the way the media ripped into you as well as some of your supposed "loyal" fans. How about taking a chance on some real talent yourselves as well as investing in Rock music's future.
As you have seen through participating in the WWRY auditions there really is true talent out there, and there are some real rock bands who need a break.
Enough of the corporate cookie cutter bands exposing young teens and 20-somethings to "crap" music. Now its time for you both to step back and find the real future rockers out there before the music industry really becomes what your WWRY musical predicts (a corporation) "ITS NOT FAR OFF!"
If established artists invested in the real talent out there, i.e., the pub bands who cannot get a break because "they are not commercial enough" for the corporate machine. You both know who can rock and who is "crap". Please think about it...
With all my respect,
ROCKMAMA
Yeah it'd be nice if you could help my growing band out. Maybe Brian could ask Paul Rodgers to be my bands lead singer, there's only like a 30 year age difference, lol

Pub bands... real talent... hahaha.
No I'm kidding, really.
But I have to admit, I didn't see a lot of the 'press ripping into them' as you say. I must've missed it.

... IIRC, a couple of years back Brian mentioned on his website trying to do exactly that - and being laughed at when he tried to get a record deal for the talents he had discovered...
FWIW
Hmmmm...it might be better if a bunch of rockers and other established artists joined forces to form their own label or something of that nature. It's just a thought...maybe you people have additional ideas....maybe?

If there is talent out there and they really want to get their music out there, they will. These days, they don't need the big companies unless trying to go bigtime. I know plenty of people who are sick of record companies that take 80-90% cuts of their music sales, leaving them with f-all. Pitiful amounts are left over, which makes you wonder.
That's why you see the teeny bopper bands (Atomic Kitten for instance) doing ads and promotion for products, because they'll get some cash from that!
Also, people are beginning to realise that starting up a label and distributing your music of your own and others ain't that hard to do. You just need the ambition and a fair amount of cash. Just today, someone I know was getting together 10k to do just that. When record companies stop ripping off the musicians, maybe these bands and talent will come back to them more.
So forgive me for not being enthusiastic about the idea of bringing some talent into the music industry. To be seen and heard, great. But let's not corrupt their dear souls!!
Peace,
Adam.
Point taken Adam!
As for corrupting their souls that's a good one LOL!
As if their not corrupted already i.e., that American Idol appearance LOL!!!
But seriously I think the future of music is the internet and artists publishing and marketing their own music directly to the internet, just thought some established people may want to help.

Nice idea, Rockmama, but unfortunately Brian and Roger are corporate protagonists. There was no "ordeal", they took part in American Idol for loads of money and not in order to help young talents. It's not allowed to quote Brian but if you know where to look you find various comments by Brian about the terrible casting shows - that was before he was part of one. "American Idol" was even named as the beginning of the end of real music in the Las Vegas version of the WWRY musical. So, they did know what they were up to but did it all the same. Do I have to applaud to be a "loyal fan"? I don't think so. Only because they give up their values, I don't have to give up mine.
Ouch! YV, point taken as well but they're operating on a whole other level. I try and remember that when I wish to yell and scream when they do something that makes me what to pull
my hair out by its roots...but they are the keepers of Queen's flame and there you have it!

Go Barb! I think you hit the nail right on the head there!
I hope they stay healthy and that they feel the love we have for them and their music. I hope they continue to write music and perform music for many years to come.
It's a little sad that they appeared on IDOL..but did not take an up-and-coming band on tour with them as support. I am sure there would of been lots of bands grateful for the chance to play area size venues.
