Just in time for their American Idol appearance, Queen will put out a cd to cash in for the new fans and even adding two Paul Rodgers songs. Here is a link with the track listing: link
For those to lazy to click on it: 1 Stone Cold Crazy
It's o.k. because it is just a limited edition for the publicity right now here in the states for their showing up on (uuuh) "American Idol" and then they can put it out of print.
Personally I think this is the best single-disc compilation they've put together, and wish this would be the official Greatest Hits (though I do think the endless compilations are silly). They finally got Tie Your Mother Down and Stone Cold Crazy on a single-disc comp, so it's a better balance of all their music. The other compilations had too much '80s pop IMHO. This compilation might make people think of Queen as a *rock* band again rather than a mainstream pop band....
No, this is definitely not the best of Queen. The list features the less-original, less-creative, more conventional Queen songs, rather than those that really define the band.
Well they were taken off of the Greatest Hits 1 & 2 set and the Platinum Collection, and I guess I didn't consider Classic Queen a "greatest hits" disc which is term I should have used (actually I thought that had gone out of print too along with Rocks...oh well). I dunno...seems like as a greatest hits disc it has a good balance of different types of hit singles and a few good album hits...as for hit singles they left off things like Body Language and Flash and Invisible Man finally and replaced them with *rock* songs. Of course I'd rather hear all of Queen II instead but it just seems like the best single CD "greatest hits" comp they've done so far to me.
It smells like the K-tel *Queen Collection* 15 of the Best, from 1984...as for the setlist, I can do that myself, by programming the cd player in my car. without paying for Simon's boots to get polished
So from what i gather reading this so far....no one is going to buy this and support Queen here in the States?
Hmm...seems a little odd. If it's a "limited edition" no one plans on buying then it sounds to me like we have a instant collectible on our hands.
I have to say though that i don't care for the cover.
The cover is brutal; it may be even worse than ROTC and that's saying alot. The font doesn't suit Queen and the layout is terrible... it looks like something you'd spit out at 4:30 on a Friday before a long weekend. I'm surprised the layout "artist" didn't include a smaller PR head!
Guys, chill. This obviously isn't aimed at the Queen fans. This compilation is used to cash in on Queen appearing on American Idol. That's not a bad thing. Maybe it will foster some new Queen fans, wouldn't that be nice?
