Can one kind soul tell us all about the Vegas show please???? |
Donna13 08.04.2006 17:30 |
I think what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. We may never know. |

Brian said from the very beginning of the show "what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas" Sorry that we can not say more, but what Brian says goes. Cheers |

CheersYou weren't even supposed to say that Brian said "Whatever happens in Vegas STAYS in Vegas." D'oh! Now I'VE gone and said it! :) Great gig . . . the Four Amigos made another appearance with their sombreros and maracas . . . "The Show Must Go On" was stunningly good. Again. They just get better and better. |

decent crowd? |
Dynamite With A Laser Beam 08.04.2006 20:17 |
Yes, the crowd was more than decent actually. Enthusiastic and happy. It was pretty full. Ga ga arms were a little slow at first, but they caught on. People came in from all over for this one . . . Linda from Canada, Ogre just barely made it from his business meeting in Trinidad/Tobago; Sarah, Gavin, Terry and crew from the UK . . . For the encore, the crowd and the band were on fire. It really rocked. |

Anyone have any pictures? I know what Brian said but...I'd really love to see some |

I think we're not hearing much about the concert because of its location. Most of the people who went to the Las Vegas concert are probably from somewhere else and therefore don't have immediate internet access. We'll probably get more reviews as we approach the end of the weekend and the attendees are back at their computers. |

I'm usually a lurker here. I've been a Queen fan since 1976 at 10 years of age. My freind across the street was a little older than me and had Queen posters and 8 tracks. I've been a loyal follower ever since. Because I grew up in Omaha Nebraska, I only had 1 chance to see Queen...and my sister wiould not take me!!! I;'ve been waiting ever since. When the Phoenix, AZ show was announced, I bought my tickets the first day. Alas, I was told I had to attend a trade show in Frankfurt, Germany the week of the show. The irony that I was on the right continent at the wrong time was not lost on me. I did manage to catch a decent Queen tribute at the Music Messe in Frankfurt, but that only made me hungrier to hear Brian play. Before I left, I check the rest of the tour dates and saw Vegas. I called a couple of friends up and we made plans to go. We just returned home a few hours ago. Sitting there, waiting for a 30 year old dream to come true was pretty staggering...what if I was disappointed? I was not. The show was pure energy and lots of it. Paul was in great form and his voice was staggeringly solid from start to finish. That maginificent tone of Brian May...I stood with my arms open wide to catch it, to absorb it, to feel it, to live it. It was magnificent. He was near flawless. A broken string right before "Last Horizon" had him go to a backup guitar. It was clear that this was a different instrument. The pickups didn't seem quite as hot and the sustain was missing. The only flaw in an otherwise magnificent show. LOML came earlier than I expected, but was wonderful. I sang every note, much to the dismay of my freinds, who didn't know the words, but the crowd sang along pretty well. I was screaming for 39, but it did not happen. The Bad Co and Free songs were a wonderful fit and they totally rocked. In my mind, nothing was lost having them in the set. The crowd responded well to them. Roger's comical announcement of Celine Dion was hysterical. His voice was wonderful on IILWMC, but when he sang TATDOOL, he nailed it. I've never like him singing it much, but I have a whole new perspective now. Unbelievable. Radio GaGa took things up another notch and added electricity to the already magical night. Under Pressure blew me away. I never liked it too much when it was released, but became a fan of the song after hearing it live. When Brian sang his solo line, my friend leaned over to me and said "I've got chills" and I knew exactly what he meant. Bo Rhap was astonishingly beautiful. I've heard it, seen the video but I was not prepared for the masterful way Freddie was woven in. How I wish I'd seen Queen back in the day when Freddie was alive, but this was truly a night I'll never forget. A nice score today was that in Paris, where WWRY was performed, the WWRY store had everything 70% off!! I got loads of stuff...even the vaunted 6 pence...for 70% off of $5.00...or $1.50. More than a review of Vegas, I know. Thanks for listening. |

Seemed like a packed house to me. I was on the floor and looking around, looked like everyone in the entire arena was standing the whole time. Great fan participation. Could have been better but great for a U.S. crowd. Notable moments, Brian's string breaking during the solo, Dragon Attack (didn't see that one coming!), Under Pressure had everyone rocking, Seeing everyone clapping their hands to Radio Gaga, more and more people each chorus and of course, singing my guts out with 17,000 people to BoRhap, WWRY and WatC. It was an awesome night. Much better than the Hollywood Bowl show. |

GSMAG thanks for that great review! And as someone who saw the Omaha, NE show in 1980: they didn't play '39 then, either ;) |

For me Vegas was a better show than the one at the HW Bowl, great venue, am I the only one who reads the "no cameras" on the tickets? My daughter brought in her phone and got a wonderfull video of LOML and you can hear my other daughter singing along, Very cool. the only downside is that my feet still hurt from the WWRY stomping on the aluminim bleachers, (like an idiot I wore flip flops), we stayed across the street but spent most of time at MGM as they had Queen music playing in the casino, perhaps we need to lobby to have 39 put back on the set list. |
goinback 09.04.2006 13:56 |
Any chance of uploading that LOML vid anywhere? I'd love to hear everyone singing with it.... |

as soon as we get USB cord for phone and of course my daughter permission, shes embarrassed by her singing, |

A friend of my was in Vegas and saw the show.. he isn't a Queen fan, but he impressed.. must have been a good show! |

I went to the show with my brother, sister, and one of her friends. The friend only knows radio friendly hits, but she thought it rocked, took a couple of pics, I will see them in a couple of days. My bro took some on his cellphone, the lights shining washed out a lot of them. We sat in the elevated section on the right side, next to the empty backstage area (so we watched them get guided in by flashlights as the show was warming up). I brought a tape recorder, and never having done this before, and also getting wrapped up in the songs, did an only "ok" job I guess. It sounds good to me, but I chopped a couple of places up: I started from the Beautiful Day/Lose Yourself intro... going on, its all ok.until: There is about 8 seconds missing during the very early beginning of Bri's solo when I changed sides on the tape. Im missing the very end of Days of Our Lives (again, tape ended, but I was too caught up in the show to notice) :( And I didnt get WATC at all, since tape ran out at the very end of All Right Now. My bro has the tapes and is digitizing them tomorrow prob. == IF ANYONE HAS WATC I WANT IT!! == The show was great, the only real complaint I had was a couple of solid rows on Brians side of the catwalk were practically empty - victims of eBay assholes charging a trip to Europe for front row seats. Jerks like them are why I was in the risers this time instead of next to the stage like I was last year. (still seemed really close) I am 99% sure that Paul Crook, the Anthrax guitarist who also played guitar during Vegas' WWRY was sittting/standing on the side of the stage during the show wearing the loud WWRY Hawaiian type shirt Brian likes. Too busy with... other things to manage a meet with other fans before hand, which sucked, but talked to a lot of cool fans while there. Seemed to be a couple of fans from Japan in seats in front of and behind us (my brother said he thought it sounded like Japanese they were speaking, I apologize to them if theyre here if he was wrong). FBG seemed sorta off most of the time to me, dont know why. Groove was wrong. LOML someone screams out I LOVE YOU BRIAN and he says he loves them back (prob my ex;) I think between LOML and HTF is when Brian mentioned/asked if anyone remembered them playing the Aladdin casino way back, some woman in a getup that looked kinda like a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader costume jumped up for that and Brian seemed to like it. I was strangely amazed so many people sang along to Hammer to Fall, but maybe it was just the people in my section (Brian and Paul several times played to our side, Brian definately favored us). If anyone has pictures of Roger in his sombrero, or Spike, Danny and Jamie in theirs shaking their maracas, email me! As others have mentioned, Brian was pounding away at his solo so hard that he broke a string at the end, which of course everyone loved, and everyone was saying shit like thats how guitar gods are supposed to look, etc. Took a bit to get started on Last Horizon because of that. AOBTD was )of course) a huge crowd pleaser, with good feedback from the audience thank god, and bizarrely, it seemed to me the place went apeshit for Dragon Attack. I mean, my brother nearly shit himself he loved it so much, and even the people around us who didnt know the words were getting into it. I guess the fact that the Game was so huge here means something... I think that Dust, Dragon Attack, and Pressure received some of the biggest crowd support. Pressure was introduced by Bri saying something like (Ill get my tapes back soon, then Ill letcha know!), this next song was written by a white boy, I dont know, Vanilla something... we liked it so much we stole the bassline. It goes something like this... <pause, looks at Danny, no bass playing> Or this!... Danny snaps to attention, then the song began. Was kinda funny. Took a while to get the crowd into Radio Ga Ga, but |

There were quite a few seats empty by the catwalk at Anaheim too. A lady told me she moved down to them, then something was unexpectedly totally blocking her view so she figured they were purposely not sold.... |

I've been walking around the office a little the past couple of days, with the tour book. I work at Fender. I was showing the Fender and Guild credit to our promotions guy when I connected all of the dots... 50th Anniversary of the Strat concert ws what put Brian and Paul together. One of the fine Fender crew in the UK is who put that whole thing together. Not only did his hard work make my 30 year old dream of seeing Brian play come true, it undoubtedly made many of yours come true as well. I just sent him a solid email thanking him for the part he played in their getting together and the ensuing tour. Hats off to JC at Fender Europe for this unlikely union!!! Without you, we wouldn't be chatting here about this great tour. |
Radio blah blah 12.04.2006 02:35 |
I flew out to Vegas to spend a few days with my friend, and we went to the show at the MGM Grand Friday night. I love Vegas, and I love Queen, but after this show, I have to consider myself a mega fan! I have seen so many great rock bands in concert, and all the great living guitarists save maybe 3 or 4 (I am a guitarist myself). I have to say that Brian and the boys just completely blew me away. The acoustics inside the MGM were excellent, and all the seats were great. We spent $131 a ticket, and let me tell you, if Queen comes to Dallas (where I live), or comes back to Vegas, I'd pay twice as much to see em again. They are the only band I can say that about. I'd pay triple that if we could entice John Deacon to come out of retirement for a night ;) My friend, his wife and I got settled in for the show about 15 minutes before the lights dimmed and "It's a Beautiful Day" started pounding out of the speakers. A quick "get the heart pumping" song by Eminem, and the crowd was going nuts. It was great to see. From the first notes of "Reaching Out", Paul's voice was in top form. Nobody could ever replace dear Freddie, but Paul is putting his own style into Queen's classic set list. His voice just soared with every note. To hear Queen's music on CD, or to see them on DVD....does not in any way do justice to just how truly powerful they are in concert. With apologies to all the great rock bands I have seen, none of them hold a candle to Brian, Roger, Paul and the gang. They played almost all the songs I was expecting, and as previously mentioned, a few surprises in "Dragon Attack" and "Under Pressure". I was also mildly surprised they did "Bad Company", but happy they did. I have becomea Paul Rodgers fan since he joined Queen, and hearing some of his old songs from his Free/Bad Company days is a great treat. Perhaps I was being a bit greedy, but I really hoped that Brian would play "39", and I was hoping to hear them do "I Want it All", but with so many great songs to scream...er sing along with, these are minor gripes. Great bands always leave you wanting more.... Now, the performances. Brian May was in top form. We were directly to his left (if you are facing the stage), and I got a good chance to see him playing up close. The man is a genius, there's nothing else to say. He plays with such emotion and just pure energy. His tone is incredible, too. He snapped his high E string during his solo...it was nice to see I'm not the only one that does that, lol. One of the highlites of the show for me was his singing "Love of My Life" with his acoustic. You could almost feel Freddie there with him...with all of us. Roger surprised me most of all. On the "Return of the Champions" DVD, he says he hates long drum solos. Well, he just rocked out, and did a full solo. Roger has never gotten his due. He is one of the truly great rock drummers of all time. He played with a lot of power, and his voice was as strong as ever. "I'm in Love With My Car" was great, and "Radio Gaga" was spectacular. The Vegas crowd just soaked it up. It was like being in the video!! The set list is now part of history, and there will be reviews of the show (I hope. I've checked the Vegas papers/websites, still no review as I write this). Instead of giving a note by note review, I'd like to convey more the feeling of being there. The crowd loved the band, and I feel like the band just fed off their energy. Lots of people singing and dancing, people screaming their heads off....laughing and smiling everywhere you looked. In an age when so much of music is filled with hate and anger, it's incredible seeing these guys just playing their hearts out!! I missed them at the HB because I was sick. My friend Brett told me short after that they were actually playing in Vegas. I could have been on my death bed. There was no way I was missing |

Wow that was an awesome review thankyou! I was really bummed after I saw them in Anaheim too...but after a day of being sad it's over I realized how lucky I was to be able to see them... Cheers! :) |

Great review, Radio blah blah. I felt exactly the same way about seeing them in San Diego. There is NOTHING like a Queen concert....the artistry, the power of the music, the feeling of being so close to the musicians, the drama of the production, and the knowledge that you are in the presence of rock royalty. It's very unlikely that life could get much better. |
