I got hooked on Muse almost in the exact same way you did. Muse is not particularly big here in the States, but I'm starting to realize that they have a fast growing cult following. I first heard about them thanks to all the people who frequent these boards talking about how great they are, but I never really bothered actually listening to them. Then one day 92.3 the local hard rock/alternative station here in NY played 'Time Is Running Out', and I said to myself... "WOW this song is fuckin' awesome!!" Then they mentioned that it was Muse, and immediatly I remember that this is the same band people at Queenzone were talking about constantly. I then went to Itunes to listen samples of 'Absolution' and just by listening to 30 second clips everything sounded absolutely incredible. I got the album and instantly it became one of my all time favorites. I knew from that moment that I also had to get 'Showbiz' and 'The Origin Of Symetry', and I loved both of them as well. Their new album comes out on May. I can't fuckin' wait to listen to it. My parents were recently in Europe and they got me the Absolution Tour DVD (they haven't released it here in the States yet). I was able to make a copy on region 1 NTSC system that I could play here. The concert is just awesome and I'll do everything I could get the best seats when they come here to promote the new album. |

MUSE 4TH Album Theory Taken from CrazyBobbles Almost certain that Rich Costey will produce the next album. He is on top form at the moment. He has produced the phenomenal Mars Volta album 'Frances The Mute' and has re-mixed the Franz Ferdinand download single 'This Fffire.' Five new songs have been played on the latter stages of the US tour, the Earls Court gigs and the MTVU Campus Invasion Tour - 'DES,' 'A Crying Shame,' 'Burning Bandits,' 'Debase Masons Grog' and a cover of Lightning Bolt's 'Dracula Mountain.' The band think if they play new songs live they appear as B-sides.However, their track record testing out songs on the 2002 festival tour (not riffs like the Stockholm Syndrome riff, Butterflies & Hurricanes piano interlude and Falling Away With You jam) were on the album. As far as we know, on a Canadian music program called Music Plus, 17 songs had been written for the new album and recently on Channel 4's teletext service, Matt said that whilst he was in Bhutan, he wrote another five. Chris also said in a French magazine recently that four of five have been written other than the new ones with 'some have come on a long way, whilst others are still is the conceptive state and need a lot of work.' This brings together a potential total of 22 songs definite. The prediction is that 11-13 songs will appear on the album, more B-sides (all Absolution singles had a measly three new songs) and some of them will probably be scrapped.situation you really work out. It really changes your whole concept." But what do the lyrics mean? I had a close look at the lyrics and this is my theory, which may be very inaccurate considering all the different versions that are buzzing around the Muse fansites: DES: A very hard one this but possible suggestions include religion, war and betrayal. Crying Shame: A wild guess would about someone who isn't considered good enough to be accepted ('When it's way too late/We'll cleanse the god/And consider you'). Burning Bandits: The last two lines pretty much say it I think ('I'm waiting so patiently/But I'll wait for the truth'). Debase Masons Grog: Not too sure on this either but I reckon religion and betrayal is likely. As Matt wrote some songs in Bhutan, then there might be a more Far Eastern influence. The only thing that comes close to a Far Eastern influence in Muse's songs recently is the opening percussion sound in Falling Away With You. Far Eastern influence could mean that the new album will have more interesting-sounding percussion and possibly more strings. Possible evidence of this influence is seen in Debase Masons Grog with the bridge after the first chorus, a sort of congo Vietnam feel is evident. In the NME in September, Matt said that they would try and be less bombastic on the next album. Instead, he wanted stripped-down and more minimal and exposed as a three-piece band. This could be a return to good old Showbiz days. Well, we had to get to them at some point. Many fans will know that since September, Matt has been going on about The Strokes, saying that he really liked their music. He said that they have melodies that you've known all your life. He even said he wanted the new songs to sound like that, only heavier. However, this may not be the case. Chris said shortly after that the new stuff doesn't sound like the Strokes and Matt denied in the NME in December. Muse have never used trumpets in their songs and the next album could well be the debut. On Music Plus, they also said that they had a trumpet section in a song lined up and they wanted Flea from the Red Hot Chilli Peppers to play the part. I don't think the guest appearance by Flea is likely somehow. In the NME in December, when NME posed the question of a Muse musical, Matt had this to say; "It would be the story of a lone ranger, some kind of weird futuristic lone ranger type, travelling round the world waiting to save the world from the end of the world and the destruct |

Here is the first article by MTV: Muse Hope Fans Aren't Too Shocked By 'Genre-Morphing' New LP Many bands will tell you that, long before they head into the studio to start recording a new album, they'll test the waters a bit. Maybe they'll experiment with exotic instrumentation, tinker with different musical styles and challenge the overall direction of the sound they've already established — ideally without alienating their fanbase. Over the years, Muse fans have come to expect the band to push the proverbial envelope. And the thunderous British rock trio have abided, consistently expanding their sonic reach and releasing LPs that pull from diverse influences including Radiohead, Black Sabbath and Queen. But even Muse's most adventurous fans might be surprised by the group's forthcoming LP, which was recorded in New York last October with Rich Costey (Franz Ferdinand, Cave In). "The diversity of the album and some of the directions we've discovered and gone for might shock [our fans] in some way," drummer Dominic Howard explained (see "Muse Plan More Upbeat Follow-Up To Melancholy Absolution"). "Hopefully, it will be a nice shock — ultimately all of them sound like Muse. We reached a point where we were looking at all these songs and how different they sounded, and we were wondering how this was ever going to sound like a band, like one album. But somehow it really does." Muse — who are currently mixing the yet-untitled follow-up to 2003's Absolution — spent a number of months writing "in this old chateau that's hours away from civilization" in the south of France, Howard said. The band brought 16 tracks to New York, and the dramatic change of scenery helped shape the end product — which will probably feature 11 cuts when it hits stores in July. "When we moved into this crazy, claustrophobic, fast-paced way of living, we absorbed some of that energy and that affected the recording," Howard said of the move to New York. "If we had stayed in the south of France, we would have taken five years to finish the record. [There,] we spent a lot of time just discovering what we were going to do, sitting around and chatting about where we wanted to take the band and which direction certain songs should follow." The material, Howard said, is a "very drastic" mix of musical styles: Some tracks border on "mellow jazz," while others are at the opposite end of the spectrum, sounding like "Prince-influenced, groove-based rock weirdness." The work of influential Italian film composer Ennio Morricone ("The Good, the Bad and the Ugly," "The Untouchables") inspired the space-prog tune "The Knights of Cydonia." And on "Take a Bow," which calls on world leaders to take responsibility for their actions, Muse move through three musical stages: starting off as a classical piece before moving into a techno mid-section and an "apocalyptic rock" ending. Howard said the band is currently putting the finishing touches on the disc and deliberating which song to release as the first single. Muse will debut some of the new material this summer during a number of European festival appearances, and the group plans to tour the U.S. this fall. |

I used to worship Muse for a while to the point that people called them (people who didnt know who Muse were) my 'boy band'. And I also bought albums, listened to lives, etc, etc... you know. Then I realised one thing - no matter how beautiful the piano intro, the guitar riffs, the surprisingly twisting melody, the soulful lyrics are, if the vocal doesn't agree with my taste, I can't stand it. It's an earsore to listen to Matt's voice, esp. after listening to the Queen harmony... So I grew out of Muse quickly and don't listen to them anymore... a pity because they are simply brilliant, music-wise. |

-Muse Bombtracks- A wonderful sun bathes the English capital while it snows in France. Muse is waiting for us to present their new work. We can’t refuse this infernal Trio’s invitation in London. And if you don’t feel much things under the Channel, when we are out, we really arrive in another continent. The Home of Rock. On our way to London, while waiting for a headlight, we can see Earl’s Court walls that vibrated in 1975 for Led Zep, in 1994. for Pink Floyd… Muse is also building his legend in the tradition of the giant, we could say. Since before London and New-York, the young English musicians invested Miraval Studio in France, a place which has seen the creators of “The Wall”. A dreaming place for Matt’s whimsical spirit : “The site is haunted by the Templars’ ghosts. During the recording, bats even visited us.” At this time, Muse is bringing the final touch to their 4th album, so long-awaited and still unnamed. The trio decided to get a promotional pause and invited several journalists in their London studio. We enter there in a maze of corridors and we cross Matt’s face, absorbed and gazing upon his guitar. He politely gave a nod of the head. Before meeting the artist, we are lead to a small room equipped with a “mastoc player” to introduce the meeting with the first pieces of an album that appears tremendous from the first notes. - 'Take A Bow' opens the ball with many violins and stressful keyboards. Matt’s voice is getting threatening “You’ll burn in hell”. The synthe is carried away, and skims the limits of a technoïd bug, before the guitar get back its rights, with a “flange” (?) and Queen like chorus. - 'Starlight' is very dancing and mechanical, quite the Muse style we already know. - 'Supermassive Black Hole' is outstanding : Prince entered into Matt’s body (if we may use those words !). The rhythmic is ideally and generously heavy and funky. “We found it interesting and well done in Franz Ferdinand and we wanted to make our dancing tube too”. - We also paid great attention to 'A Soldier’s Poem', written about the world events and Irak War, with its beauty. Dom uses the brushes, in a Jazzy style, Matt’s voice arrived just at the middle of target. - 'Invincible' and its massive military rhythmic already appears as a potential tube. An apocalyptic slaughter with no name comes, with a kind of riff such as System of A Down’s ones. Our ears shout to keep their eardrums. - Our brains are in stand-by until 'City of Desilusion', an intimate gap in which Matt dives us. A voice, alone in the world, remembering the missed Jeff Buckley, is fighting with a flamenco line, a real beauty moment. “Our aim was to get songs as different as possible”, Chris Wolstenholme says. They are also more optimistic. I think the last album was so dark that it would have been impossible to do worse (laughs). It was about the end of the world, normal… There is perhaps a good reason in it, there is less classic elements in this new one. This album is more concentred on guitar”. Matt is now explaining that “the album is very influenced by the production of the 50’s and Tornado’s music, my father’s band”. - The proof is the last tittle, 'Knights of Cydonia', a spaghetti western, huge sounds with guitars and punctuated with a trumpet solo. Muse is experimenting, inventing, teaming with ideas. Is there any limit for Muse ? The answer will be on the 3rd of July, in the shops and next into Guitar Part. 1. Take A Bow * 2. Starlight * 3. Yes, it's different and it has a sort of pop/commercial edge, but nonetheless it's a great song. There will be at least one Muse fan that will say they've sold out, but they can just go fuck themselves. The song is superb, and I've very looking forward to the new album. 1. Take A Bow: *Has three stages - classical begining; techno middle; apocalyptic rock ending. *Opens with many violins and stressful keyboards. *"Queenesque" *Brian May-influenced guitars. *Emphatic vocals *Jimi Hendrix-like ending. *Cataclysmic 2. Starlight: Written during Absolution sessions. *Influenced by The Strokes, on a drumbeat and basic basslines. *Catchy song with 'pop-y' elements. *Very dancing and mechanical. *Quite the Muse style we already know. *Techno bassline *Like a Depeche Mode song. *Chord changes reminiscent of Johnny Marr - Begining of song *Vocals are like Joshua Tree-era U2 3. Supermassive Black Hole: Die kan je dus downloaden. 4. *Untitled*: * Depeche Mode-like. *"Dancefloor" beat *The guitars work with a synthesiser. *Whole song changes at chorus 5. A Soldier’s Poem: *Melodramatic jazz style. *It’s big and minimal at the same time. * Dom uses brushes in a 'jazzy' style. *Begins with groovy drums. *Acoustic guitar *J.S. Bach playing over the top ( *Whispered vocals. 6. Invincible: *Written in the great lakes area. *Possible single. *Massive Military rythm - Marching Beat. *Smooth, reverberating guitar slides. *"Old-school" piano. *Little guitar touches make it spacey. *Sensational solo with lots of whammy-battering -Tap solo. 7. *Untitled*: *Heavy intro riff - "System of a down-like" *Possibly Debase Masons Grog *"Soundgardenesque" * Dom goes mental on the drums. *The mixing makes it very impressive. 8. Exo Politics: *Pure Muse. *Many syncopated riffs, *Fuzzy, low-fi little solo. *Classic, but effective. 9. City of Delusion: *Folksy guitar *Pete Townshend style. *Hispanic-sounding (Spanish-sounding) strings introduce an emphatic melody. *Tex-mex *Trumpet solo. 10. *Untitled*: *Reverberating guitar. *We plunge into a mix of western and jazz. *The ever-present strings complement the linear vocals. 11. Knights of Cydonia: *Written during Absolution tour *A spaghetti western *Trumpet solo *"Space-prog" *Bells unleash the madness on this one. *Vibrato/wah-wah guitar with loads of feedback. *Trumpets. *Synths perfect it. *The riff is an improbable mix of Black Sabbath and the Midnight Express. *A true masterpiece |
