If the guy wants to sell it I can't say too much. Every time a collecter buys something they have to consider the history of the item. I attended the show in Pittsburgh and in Cleveland. I was down on the floor near the catwalk and witnessed this e-bay fool in action. When Roger was throwing his second stick he instead tried to hand it to a cute young lady in the 1st row. As he extended the stick the e-bay merchant lunged forward and grabbed it at the same time. There was a brief tug of war but the jerk wrenched it from her grip. It sickened me at the time but he was long gone before I saw him again. I sent an e-mail via e-bay to convey my disgust at his barbaric actions. |

I attended the Pittsburgh show, and it was truly magical. I was honored and so appreciative just for even having the opportunity to see and hear Queen (and Paul Rodgers) one more time... My hope and concern, for Brian and the band, is that this incident does not leave a bad taste in his mouth about their performance that evening, or tarnish his thoughts toward the the thousands of true fans and admirers who were thoroughly enrapted. So many people went home with dreams fulfilled and very happy memories to cherish for a lifetime. My wife and my friends noticed the reworded sign off the side of the stage from our 10th row vantage point, and warmly laughed it off as an inside joke by a stage assistant. (Thank goodness we all were so oblivious to what unfolded there and afterward.) Forgive me if I choose to fondly remember it this way, and not as the embarassment that it turned out to be... I hope that Brian finds, upon his reflections on that evening in Pittsburgh, that his first thoughts are toward the warm, loving, appreciative crowd and not the stark-raving lunatic who tried to ruin it for so many. Pittsburgh is known as the 'City of Champions," (as reflected in a few "Terrible Towels" from the Steelers football fans winding up on the catwalk as we celebrated the finale), and Queen will always be at the pinnacle of my rock'n'roll. |

I am very upset about this...once again Brian's kind generosity is being exploited. The story is very nice...what a great experience this person has and what a honour to be handed this special plectrum from the man himself. To turn around and SELL it on e-bay of all places makes me feel ill from the pit of my stomach. HOW could you...i mean really....HOW could someone just turnaround and barter this off with absolutely no regard to the sentimental value or historic value? It boggles the mind.....my mind at least. Now if this was someone who was putting it up because they really don't give a toss about the honour that befell them....then at least have a auction where the money raised is given towards a charity or such. This is exactly why it's so difficult for the REAL fans to get autographs these days from the Band. They have been stung so badly by all the profiteeting on E-bay, many times they simply refuse to sign anything. It's a shame that those of us who respect them have to see things like this happen....it always seems to be the ones who could care less get once in a lifetime events happen like this ( from a fans standpoint) and those that would literally die for such a opportuntiy are sitting in the rafters. Argh...i was having a lovely day until i saw that. I'm very saddened by all of this.. |

Some of the responses here are too much. It's not like he's selling a piece of the cross Jesus was crucified on or an original copy of the Koran in Mohammed's handwriting. Many of you have purchased Queen artifacts and memorabilia. There is a history to every single item a collector owns. Whether it is Jimi's burned guitar, John Lennon's last autograph (far creepier since it was for his killer) or Brian May's stage-used sixpence there is always a history to that item. My complaint about this guy is that he was so mercenary about getting the sixpence with zero regard for the people around him, the performers or for the audience being affected by his boorish behaviour. If he wants to sell a collectible item then good for him. Maybe this will make it possible for a real fan to own this item. He'd just better make sure he never interferes with my enjoyment of a concert I've paid dearly to see. I still think Brian should've given the beggar a buck and told him to f**k off and had Security throw him out. |

I too saw this man and you have no idea how sickening it was to watch him PRY the drumstick out of that poor girl's hand. He actually held her wrist with one of his hands and pryed the stick out with the other. I just wish my camera memory card wasn't already full at that point b/c I would have shot video of it and posted it for all of you to see. This man is truly a disgrace and an embarassment to the USA. I emailed him today with this: "This is my question, How do you sleep at night? I saw you prying the drumstick out of that girl's hand. You are sick and childish person and a classic example of why other countries hate Americans. I only have one thing to say to you and that is Every Dog Will Have His Day." On Mar-29-06 at 21:04:01 PST, seller added the following information: Honestly, I didn't even want to add this, but due to the amount of people writing to me, I'll respond to everyone as a whole. YES, I have seen Brian's Soapbox at BrianMay.com and he has grossly exaggerated the details. I'm sure no one will believe me over him, but it doesn't make any difference really. If this auction offends him or anyone, I apologize, and did not mean to cause such a stir. I can understand why Brian or some of you might not like the idea of this sixpence being for sale. However, the sale of this coin is 100% legal and possibly a once in a lifetime opportunity for someone to own a rare piece of Queen concert memorabilia. I did not anticipate all this commotion. The sixpence is still for sale... I guess now everyone knows I didn't make this all up. There's no doubting the authenticity of this thing now, it's been authenticated by Brian himself. Thanks. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________well everyone, this is his latest post on ebay and unfortunately it looks as though it will earn him even more money now that brian is involved, because it was verified to be his....that sucks... i know that i would have never bid on it and he has tried to make himself look like the victim yeah right..... we all know the truth anyways jill |

I'm pretty sure I have a photo of the guy who swiped the drumstick out of the girl's hand and fits the description. But I scanned my over 500+ photos and no photo of the sign. If this is the guy, he was wearing a black leather jacket with white accents, a black t-shirt and dark rimmed glasses. The girl next to him had long brown hair. He pretty much was center stage. Does anyone have a photo of him holding the sign or if you saw him, where was he standing in relation to front of the catwalk? I hope he gets stiffed on this whole ebay thing. You know..this thought has crossed my mind now and again while reading this over the past few days. Does any one else here feel that what is currently going on ( someone falsely driving the bids up out of "revenge") is really the best way to handle this? It seems to be a bit immature to me.....not that i'm siding with the buyer in ANY WAY. I think what this guy did ( and is doing) is appauling and in very bad taste personally. I don't know though if this is the best way to handle it. |

The sixpence guy is an ass but what is going on now is just plain ridiculous. |

if i was Brian, i would fight fire with fire, i would post my own auction for an "official Brian May used 6 pence" and put up about 50-100 of these (he could use a diffrent 6 pence for each song, thats like 20 per night)and put a COA with it stating its a Brian May concert used item. he could put each one up on ebay for $10.00 and donate the money to the phoenix mercury trust. that would do many things, it would help a good cause,it would give the fans a chance to own a piece of music history, and it would keep people like this guy from making tons of money since it wont be such a hard to find item. |

Sweet..... and this is all we wanted to see happen |

Someone probably offered to buy it from him directly if he ended the auction early. I'm sure the louse still made his 50 bucks or whatever. |

Actually I think the listing would say that someone paid the "Buy It Now" price...maybe he did actually end it without selling it. |

goinback wrote: Actually I think the listing would say that someone paid the "Buy It Now" price...maybe he did actually end it without selling it.No, he didn't offer it with the "Buy It Now" option. It happens on eBay frequently, even though its against the rules. Someone send you a message and says "I'll pay you X dollars for that if you'll end the auction early and sell it directly to me". I got an offer like that the last time I had an auction on eBay in fact. And for that guy, I'm sure he'd rather take an offer like that than have nothing from someone bidding a ridiculous amount of money but who had no intention of paying him anything. I prefer the guy get nothing but his sixpence for all his machinations, but I sadly suspect he made a profit on it from someone. |

brian put my letter on his letters page, about the sixpence issue!!!!! whether the guy made money or not i suppose we'll never know but i was glad to see it GONE |
