For those of you who wondered about whether this DVD included The Prophets Song I can tell you that it is included. Its in the extras bit - all 11.35 seconds of it and tells of a demo version that Kenny Everett nicked to play on his radio show!! Also included is a piano version of God Save The Queen which is a very rough demo guide for the proper version!!! All in all this is a very good DVD imho. |

I'm looking forward to checking this out. I have a question though. There a two editions of this being released. The "special edition" from what I gather will also include the 24bit dvd remaster of the original recording. So is this the same disc the was just released as the 30th anniversary edition? sorry if this question has already been asked. |

I got my (premium edition) copy today; I'm pretty sure the 2nd disc is the same as the ANATO dvd, but I haven't had time to compare them minutely. I like the extras on the first disc though the Prophet's Song should have been included in the original programme. |
billycat 18.03.2006 11:53 |
I noticed that Best Buy has this for pre-order on their website for $12.59 with free shipping. They don't mention the special edition. I assume this must be the single disc version. That's the best price I've seen for it yet. |

It's great to see sweet lady live in that quality too!!I also think there's some great footage from Live killers tour:roger singing Im in love with... All in all not as bad as it could have been:-) |
David Jones 19.03.2006 09:15 |
Yeah, I thought there were gonna be one or two extras on the second disc that weren't on the special edition of ANATO, but it looks like its just gonna be the same now, so hopefully I can just buy the one disc version. |

On the original DVD from the 30th anniversary release it was only in DTS 5.1. The official Queen website is claiming this new issue of the DVD is in DTS and DOLBY DIGITAL 5.1. Is this true? |

Lord Fickle 19.03.2006 11:46 |
It's a nice DVD, but I wish they had re-edited the extra parts back into the documentary, or given the option of seamless branching, as it would have been better to have been able to view the whole thing complete, rather than having to go to the extras for Prophet's, the whole of Sweet Lady, and other bits. It was obviously all in one at one stage. |

I havn't got my copy yet. Hoping to get it soon. It sounds great. I didn't know Roger did an acoustic version of IILWMC |
KevMull 22.03.2006 18:58 |
When was the doc filmed? Roger and Bri look a bit younger than there more recent 'haggard look' (want of a better word!). Bri's hair even has a bit of bounce in it like the old days and he even mentions that it Was 20 years ago since he did Good Company. Surely he means 30 years or was it filmed earlier than last year? |

I was going to get this for the Dolby Digital mix- I play surround through my computer, and cant decode DTS currently. So can someone who actually has this confirm for me whether all or part actually is mixed into Dolby, or whether thats not true, as suggested above - Im a tad confused! Cheers! |
TheAmazingEvent 22.03.2006 23:53 |
the play DTS on the PC you need WinDVD platinium edition freely available on bittorrent |
Cwazy little thing 23.03.2006 04:38 |
cheers for the info - I had kinda thought about updating my software... Although I suppose by "freely available" you mean illegally available on bitorrent - unfortunately Im against stealing software as I am music - I may buy the platinum at a computer fair. I take it by your answer the new release doesnt have a dolby mix though? lol |
TheAmazingEvent 23.03.2006 17:17 |
er yeh....it's not supposed to be free.... You could try it though as a trial version from their website for 30 days. It's made by Intervideo Once you've heard Queen in DTS 5.1 you'll hate your CD's |

Don't we all secretly wish we had grown up to be as cool as Roger Taylor? Has anybody else gotten a bad copy? Mine stutters like Mel Tillis on nearly all the special features and on the "God Save the Queen" track-by-track segment - and on three different DVD player models. |

I hope this will help anyone considering buying this. I sent this email to Eagle Vision this morning...... Hi, Just to say that I recieved my copy of The Making Of A Night At The Opera today. I didn't purchase the 30th anniversary ANATO album release last year as the DVD surround mix was DTS only. (I do not have DTS capability) I was delighted to learn of this new release and that the 2nd disc on the Premium Edition contained DTS, PCM stereo and Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtracks. Somebody has misled many Queen fans, not to mention virtually every online retailer, the Official Internation Queen Fan Club, the official Queen site and the official Brian May site and no doubt countless others with an inexcusable cock up of considerable proportions. THERE IS NO DOLBY DIGITAL 5.1 SOUNDTRACK ON DISC 2. This is from YOUR website............. Synopsis TRACKLISTING 1) Death On Two Legs 2) Lazing On A Sunday Afternoon 3) I’m In Love With My Car 4) You’re My Best Friend 5) ’39 6) Sweet Lady 7) Seaside Rendezvous 8) Good Company 9) Love Of My Life 10) Bohemian Rhapsody “Queen: The Making Of A Night At The Opera” tells the track by track story of the album through new interviews with Brian May, Roger Taylor and producer Roy Thomas Baker along with archive interviews with Freddie Mercury and contributions from photographer Mick Rock, Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry and Ian Hunter from Mott The Hoople amongst others. Illustrated by classic live footage, much of it from the Hyde Park free concert in 1976, and in depth studio analysis the film gives an intimate portrait of the making of a true classic album and is a worthy addition to our acclaimed and highly successful Classic Albums series. There are over 50 minutes of bonus footage including the following: Additional interviews and analysis of the tracks / Exclusive acoustic performances of “39” and “Love Of My Life” by Brian May / Previously unreleased full live performance of “Sweet Lady” from the Hyde Park free concert in 1976. This Special Edition includes a second bonus DVD disc which has the entire original studio album remixed into Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS surround sound as well as Dolby Digital Stereo, with the original videos for “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “You’re My Best Friend”, newly created visuals for all the other tracks and a commentary on each track made up from archive and new interviews with all four members of the band. If you trawl the web you will find almost without exception, nobody has managed to describe this product correctly. I do accept that the packaging description is correct, but surely people are entitled to an accurate description before deciding to buy. This is cut and pasted from the government Trading Standards website....... Buying Goods - your rights When you buy goods from a trader, such as a shop, market stall, garage, etc, you enter into a contract, which is controlled by many laws including, the Sale of Goods Act 1979 (as amended by the Sale & Supply of Goods Act 1994 and the Sale and Supply of Goods to Consumers Regulations 2002). In the year 2006, it's hard for me to sympathise with those that still don't have DTS equipment. It's been discussed many times before that Queen don't want to release their stuff in Dolby Digital 5.1. I understand the decision and hope it stays that way as the quality of DTS is great. I don't mean to be, well... mean, to those without DTS playback capabilities. And in 2002 when the ANATO DVDA was released, sure, it was understandable that some were annoyed about the DTS track. It wasn't that widespread, as DVD's had only really taken off the previous year. Popularity-wise, I mean. But it's been 4 years and the dvd format has made us all fully aware that DTS is out there! lol Seriously though, those that don't upgrade will continue to lose out. Shame, but it's their own fault in the end. The technology is cheap these days, too. And with a move to another video format looming, it's very probable that DTS will become chosen more because the disc space is there to be used. So what are you waiting for music lovers? Embrace it! Peace, Adam. |

Agreed. I remember when I got my copy of the WWRY DVD with DTS in about 2001, it was before I even had a DVD player. I quickley rushed out and bought a Player with a DTS surround system purely to watch and listen to my new DVD, even though I couldnt afford it and should have really spent my money on things of what some might say a far greater priority. That was in 2001 and cost about 200 quid, so you must be able to get them for pennies now. As Freddie would say 'Just go out and buy it'. |
My Melancholy Blues 30.03.2006 02:58 |
I've just finished watching this DVD for the first time and I'm sooooo happy to see it. All comments (e.g. Roy's from the mixing room) are very very interesting and especially those ones of Brian, Roger are very exciting, sometimes touching as well. I was excited to hear Roger's fantastic playing on drums and guitar in IILWMC. And I like Brian's singing in '39 and Love Of My Life due to his heartfelt singing, even though they sound a little bit weaker than ever. I'd like to hear his singing more than ever anyway. Especially I was touched by his comment about LOML and his LOML with so much feeling, which reminded me of Freddie and Brian playing this number on stages. How many times I've wished Freddie were alive during watching this DVD, otoh, I guess if he were alive he would talk little about the meaning of Bo Rhap, ... but anyway those comments of Brian and Roger seem to make up for Freddie's and John's and I felt so happy to hear many comments about Freddie, which seem to be of help for me to get over a sort of sense of loss still coming back to me sometimes and remaining for a while. I think whenever I watch this DVD, I'll be able to enjoy ANATO in many ways, it's been my best fav. album though. Btw, one more thing...after watching this, I'd like to have their official '70s live stuff such as Rainbow'74, Hammersmith'75, Hyde Park'76, Earls Court'77, Houston '77 etc.etc.... much more than ever. |
My Melancholy Blues 30.03.2006 03:37 |

Peace, Adam.Sorry Adam but that's a little like saying it's hard to sympathise with someone who hasn't upgraded to Windows XP. In today's world we buy electronic goods in the certain knowledge that they will be out of date by the time we get home, however that doesn't mean we have to keep rushing out and upgrading just because it's there, it's just marketing departments trying to get us to spend our money. 4 Years is not a long time to expect a product to be useful, so I don't think it's fair to say they should up-grade every few months. The issue here is the advertising was incorrect in it's statement of contents, so you can hardly blame someone for buying a product that wasn't compatible. If you are fortunate enough to be able to afford to upgrade every time a new product comes out then great but most people don't do that, even in a company you don't upgrade the computer systems every time Microsoft launch new software, you have to build in depreciation period, if you were to upgrade every time you'd be bankrupt in a very short space of time! Give the guy a break, a little harsh I feel! |

Togg wrote: Sorry Adam but that's a little like saying it's hard to sympathise with someone who hasn't upgraded to Windows XP.Not really, considering we're talking about a delivery sound format. Whereas Windows is a piece of software that has things made FOR it. DTS is a tool to be utilised by those that find it useful. Togg wrote: In today's world we buy electronic goods in the certain knowledge that they will be out of date by the time we get home, however that doesn't mean we have to keep rushing out and upgrading just because it's there, it's just marketing departments trying to get us to spend our money.Don't know why you mentioned this as, DTS is here to stay. Heck it's been around since 1993! If you meant buying equipment to playback DTS at home, then you're way wrong. The whole point is that you can go out and buy an amp with DTS and that will work with anything you put through it. There's no marketing junk involved as, you can push anything like that to the side in these matters. The sound formats will change in the future, it's almost certain, but there's nothing on the horizon. So, what are you on about with this upgrading over and over business? I bought an amp for the FIRST time ever last October for £120. Before that, I simply used a computer to playback DTS discs. There's been relatively bugger all new with home theatre amps, so there's no reason to be afraid of upgrading or missing out on some new fangled feature available soon! I think you've been misinformed about these things. Togg wrote: 4 Years is not a long time to expect a product to be useful, so I don't think it's fair to say they should up-grade every few months.Ah... I think I know what you did. You already bought something that doesn't have DTS. That's why you're miffed. Hey, your choice, so it's up to you. No need to criticise them (Queen) for releasing in a format you don't have the capability to playback on your system. Togg wrote: The issue here is the advertising was incorrect in it's statement of contents, so you can hardly blame someone for buying a product that wasn't compatible.I know about the advertising thing. But then, it was widely reported on this site many times that DTS would be used. And that made sense, since it's the one Queen are becoming famous for utilising for their music dvd's. Ever since 2002... Togg wrote: If you are fortunate enough to be able to afford to upgrade every time a new product comes out then great but most people don't do that,Nah, I don't. Like I mentioned before, I bought an amp for the first time ever, last year. I only upgrade when necessity would demand it. Which is rare. Togg wrote: ...even in a company you don't upgrade the computer systems every time Microsoft launch new software, you have to build in depreciation period, if you were to upgrade every time you'd be bankrupt in a very short space of time! Give the guy a break, a little harsh I feel!Uhm... that analogy doesn't work in this situation. You can't compare the hardware required for DTS playback with computer software in a company environment. Apples and Oranges! The point was this... If you choose not to buy into something and loose out on a release such as the Queen DTS dvd's, do you blame them? Take care of yourself aannd each other! Goodnight! Peace, Adam. |

Just bought it yesterday and watched it 10 times already. Overall, some good things in there. Although, since this was titled "THE MAKING of . . . ", I kind of wish they would have done more of the in-studio and at-the-mixing-board track playing and individual track soloing they did with Roy T. Baker being there. It was worth it to me just to hear Freddie's exposed backing vocal tracks and bare lead vocals, particularly on "Lazing". I mean, get down to more of the nitty gritty of the individual tracks themselves and less of what so-and-so record exec. has to say about Queen history. Maybe to most people who aren't studio freaks and audiophiles that would be boring. . . but I guess I wouldn't be completely happy until a multitrack master is available and I can sit down and listen to them myself at my studio. ;) THAT would be bliss. I was happy to see what little bit they had about Mike Stone. I've never even seen a picture of the guy. . . and to see a quick pic of Roy with them at the board in the 70's. Cool! My my. . .he's grown a little since then. ;) Dave |

I just got my last week. The Anniversay set is a cd and dvd. That is totally different then the Making of ANATO. The Making is really a good dvd.. done very well. I think it was on TV in Europe. And seeing how good the DVD is the band or Brian decided to release it. |

I just watched the DVD and it´s a good one indeed. I just miss the IILWMC acoustic version from Roger (and now we know it exists), i don't like the Wembley bits in the midle of "Love of my Live", because i already have that footage. It was more interesting for me to see Brian performing the song in the studio, so i could see the chords! There is a part were Brian speaks about the "Deacy amps" saying that he already explain before what is it (so, we know that they recorded Brian playing guitar through the Deacy amps and explained it- I hope). The hilight of this DVD is the performance of ´39 in the studio by Brian!- It makes me feel small- he allways choses the best chords. Take care |
