I think it's the original studio versions of the songs that make the core of the QPR set. If it was QPR I doubt the Original Queen Members would be on the cover ! Is it a stupid idea for a release ? Yes ! If people want the Queen hits that were played on this tour, let them buy Platinum ! If they want to buy Paul Rodgers' only hit (sorry Paul !), let them buy it on iTunes !!! And they can also buy ROTC, for pete's sake ! We want Kampuchea, we want Houston, we want Budapest, we want Rainbow, we want GVHIII !!!!!! |

One of the worst ideas I've seen in a long time and that's saying a lot with Queen product. What exactly is the sense behind this anyway? Mostly Queen and two Paul songs just thrown in. It looks like something a fan would burn onto CD himself not some official release. Is this supposed to promote the tour? If so, shouldn't Paul be featured more prominently? Why would they release the CD at or near the end of the US tour? How would that help at all? This my friends is downright shameful. The CD makes zero sense and I cannot see why this is being put out. |

Looks like they're releasing a CD of their basic live show lineup so people know the songs beforehand...except anyone who gets this will probably get it after the shows are done! It seems basically the same as the compilations except it has TYMD (finally) and the Paul Rodgers stuff. '39 would have been nice of course. It's called Stone Cold Classics yet doesn't even have Stone Cold Crazy on it...ugh.... |

What the fuck... Another compilation??? WITH PR ON IT??? If there's a God in the sky, then this is some stupid executive's idea of a good album and Brian May's hands are tied. Because if he, or Roger, had something to do with this, I may just have to send them to the Moon in a big rocket. This is the *stupidest* tracklist I've read since my sister won an Australian Idol CD at a karaoke competition. |

Its a cheesy show, yes, but zillions of people watch it. It's great exposure for the band and the back catalog. Too bad they couldn't have timed it a little better with the tour. The shows air the same week that the tour ends. I feel sorry for whatever poor fool has to sing Bohemian Rhapsody - although I guess a lot of people watch the show specifically for the trainwreck performances. |
sbrown 18.03.2006 18:36 |
I think you're all barking up the wrong tree with this A.I. thing meaning American Idol. I'm sure it's supposed to stand for Artistic Integrity..... |
rhyeking 20.03.2006 19:13 |
When I first saw the "Queen A.I." listing, I thought, "What does A.I. mean?" "Artificial Intelligence" came to mind. "American Idol" didn't, because I actively ignore that show and its hell spawn "Canadian Idol". Since they've changed the title to "Stone Cold Classics" and posted a potential tracklisting, I'm not sure what to think about this. Part of me doesn't even think it's going to be released, as no other outlet but cduniverse has a listing. What if it's some bastard unofficial Dr. Frankenstein creation? I read this thread in its entirity and just see a bunch of fans panicking for no good reason. First, a release you don't like is NOT a personal attack on you perpetrated by Queen Productions. Second, Queen are not damaging either their reputation, their legacy, their fanbase by putting out another Best Of/Hits release. Third, just because it has Queen's name on it doesn't mean you need to buy it. Believe it or not, you can resist, you have the strength. Fourth, IF this is a legitimate release, it's likely the two Paul Rodgers tracks are either from "Return Of the Champions" or the original tour downloads (likely the former). In that case, they have every right to be on the CD, as the current incarnation of Queen (in addition to Paul Rodgers) perform the songs. Fifth, what I'm telling those of you who tremble with anger over a false sense of betrayal by their favourite band is not a sacrelige. Stop griping and think for a moment that if this release, if it is legitimate, turns just one casual listener into a fan, it was worth it. Sixth to infinity, you can call me whatever you want and think what you want about my voice of reason, but you cannot criticize me more than I critize myself, so don't try. Just a few thoughts from a well-adjusted, happy Queen fan. |
Haystacks Calhoun 20.03.2006 19:14 |
If Best of compilations did a band in, Aerosmith would have been finished 25 years ago... If there was a competition of Best Of albums, Aerosmith would win by a country mile. |
goinback 20.03.2006 20:48 |
It would be cool if they did an American Idol show of Queen songs. It would *not* be cool if Brian or Roger actually showed up for the show...they're legends and I hope they don't reduce themselves to a reality show, how tacky. |
Boy Thomas Raker 20.03.2006 21:01 |
Hi rhyeking, I think you are very much a voice of reason, so I'll gently disagree with one of your points. I do believe that by flooding the market with product, Queen does hurt their legacy, because they're devaluing the worth of the original song. For instance, if WWRY were a Picasso painting, there'd be one of them. However, when there's the original "Picasso" from News of the World, followed by the same song from 5ive, John Farnham, a Pepsi commercial, it cheapens the impact and value of the original. IMHO, Queen were once a band of artists. Now they're a business entity with no desire to do anything more strenuous than licence their music out to whoever will pay for it. |
