Last night Alice Cooper interviewed Brian on his radio show. I dont know how many of you caught it, but here it is, i was able to record it on my MP3 player and here it is all typed up... I apologize for the length... Ill have to post it in pieces as it will not fit in one box... Alice: I was supposed to have an interview with Brian May. Buuuuttt, he didn’t show up. No, I’m Kidding. His amazing Guitar work speaks for itself. And Now I get to speak with Brian. How ya doing? Brian: I’m very well how are you sir? Alice: I’m great! You guys are out on the road already huh? Brian: Oh God Yeah, we Must be Mad… (laughs) Alice: I know what are we doing?? what are we thinking?? (laughs) Bri: I guess we must love it! (laughs) Alice: You know I heard a lot of my guys when we were in England went over to the show in Whales. Bri: Yeah we saw ‘em yeah. Alice: They LOVED the show, they just said it was such a great, a unique kind of way to approach it. Bri: Oh great, im glad they enjoyed it. Yeah, yeah. You must come down yourself, we’ll, uh we’ll exchange notes. (giggles) Alice: I think that theres just so many loyal fans of QUEEN, you can’t find anybody that doesn’t love QUEEN. And then the added attraction of yanno uh of having uh the singer is just yanno, everybody loves his voice too. We call him “The Voice” Bri: Paul is a phenomenon. I mean the funny thing is why didn’t we think of it before I suppose. (hah) Paul Rodgers is just… |

Alice (@ same time): Well I… (hesitates) its almost probably one of those things where there’s a certain amount of time that you have to let go (Bri: Mmm.) Before yanno you can even think about putting somebody else in Freddie’s place and then all of a sudden, it’s OK then, yanno. Bri: Well I was the guy who resisted it most I suppose and in a sense I still do, yanno I don’t want anybody taking Freddie’s place. And the great thing (Alice: I Know) You know what im saying, and the great thing about Paul is that he’s different and we approach everything in a different way. And its new life rather than trying to resuscitate the old life. Alice: But yanno, I think what everybody out there is thinking though that yanno Heres uh, You got Brian and Taylor and all these guys yanno and Would LOVE to hear them come out here and play again and play those songs. Yanno and uh because yunno Freddie was the voice of the band but you guys were defiantly, I mean that guitar work of yours was so signature. |

Bri: Oh well thank you. I started to see it from the outside in a sense yanno. It was a long grieving process in a sense losing Freddie yanno. Alice: Yes and I was very resistant to doing anything. I didn’t even want to talk about QUEEN for such a long time and then finally you realize the love that is out there and I thought well, if I was out there I would like to see us go out there and do the songs yanno. And theres a lot of Freddie in the show in a sense, we even kind of, we actually used his voice and his image in a couple little bits. Well actually one little bit uhhmmm But theres a lot of the sort of Spirit of Freddie in there and we feel very comfortable. We feel like it’s in the right place. Alice: Well I think its great doing that uh-video thing. (Bri: Yeah.) I think that’s a great I’ll betchya the audience goes absolutely insane when they uh see that. Bri: It’s great it’s defiantly sort of “lump in the throat”. We didn’t wanna yanno, its not a nostalgia show It’s a new show but it’s nice that there are those elements in there. And actually Freddie’s mum came down to the show we did in Sheffield In the North of England. And she loved it. She was like “Yea Yea you make us really proud” (laughs) Alice: Ooh, that’s great! (Bri: That was wonderful…) Alice: Well the next thing of course you think about is what’s chances of you guys going in with Paul, to record? Bri: Ummm, Well we already did a little exploratory bit cuz um the place we were rehearsing was actually Roger’s studio and we nipped in and put a few little things down. Nothing that I don’t think, I don’t think we’ll use any of it yet. But I think we feel there is something to be done there if we can get around to it. Alice: Cuz yea I mean, Im just thinking the fact that you’re still a great writer. And you could just write, almost like Queen part 2, yanno an entirely different uh set of circumstances with a different singer, and just see what comes out. It might be really really interesting. Bri: Defiantly yea. we seem to hit it off very well, it’s a nice atmosphere. The first kind of challenge was to see what happened live. And it seems to be great so yea I. Theres kind of an irresistible call there lets see if we can make something new. Alice: (fumbling for words) Now uh the first thing that I thought of was when they said I was going to talk to Brian was uh a lot of people out there don’t know Brian is the BIGGEST collector of Star Wars stuff. (Bri: *Laughs*) And I am too. I, mean I don’t even APPROACH, I don’t come anywhere NEAR you’re collection at all. Bri: Well I… (Bri’s and Alice's words over lap to inaudible talking for a moment) *laughs* I kinda had to give it up in a sense because it was was over taking my house. (Alice: *Laughing*) So I’ve really had to be very strong here and I’ve backed off. So what I have and im not adding to it from now on. |

Alice: Oh, c’mon the new movies out you’re gonna have to get some new stuff! Bri: uhh… well I gotta couple of token pieces but yanno (Alice laughing) Nooo its become to serious its an addiction I had to kick really. Alice: But its, its yanno, when I first saw the first movie in ’76 yanno I went out and bought all the toys. Bri: oh yea, I’ll never forget that and I can see it as clear as day, walking in late to the first STAR WARS movie and seeing those 2 robots in the desert and thinking “God What the Hell is this??” And I’ll never forget it I think it’s a magic thing. Alice: It really is and the new movie everybody’s doing just I thought they did a great job with it, of finishing it up yanno. Just, just you can’t find anybody that doesn’t like that movie. It just, really worked. Bri: Yea. (Alice and Bri’s voices overlap again and conversation is again inaudible for a moment) What was the problem? Alice: And I IMMEDIATELY thought of you. Bri: I wish that I had found out that Darth Vader wasn’t his dad that would have pleased me. Alice: Yeah. That would have been good! If he would have had a twin brother Bri: Yea, I wanted another twist. Or maybe Darth Vader was his mum yanno Alice: Uh, yea exactly! (laughing) He was a cross dressing uh… Yeah, yea, villain, of somewhere up there… Bri: Yeah, see, I should write this stuff. (laughing) Alice: So uh yea, getting back to the tour and everything like that um, yanno when you came out and I’m saying this from a song writers point of view; When you guys first came out and those records started yanno, being played on the radio, as a song writer, I sat back and went WOW, Who’s writing this stuff??? Because you guys, you can tell ok that’s that and that’s that. Then all of a sudden a record comes out and you go “What was that??” and it stops you in your tracks. Yanno. And that’s what Queen did, QUEEN wrote records that were so, I mean, wrote songs that were just so much fun to listen to and just well crafted songs. Bri: Well thank you, yea well a challenge. Yanno, it was just uh, boys given some paint and a lot of canvas. We really enjoyed exploring those places, and uh still do I suppose. Alice: But it didn’t go to any clichés though, I mean it was like something that was really fresh and original and very clean sounding I guess. Oh, you worked with Roy Thomas Baker right? Bri: That’s right. Yeah, Roy was an engineer when we first started working with him… Alice: yea, I worked with Roy and his albums, he’s so clean, his albums are they’re so yanno spotless. |

Bri: Yea, yea. He loves his distortion though. (laughs) Alice: oh Yea, he has his box! His mixing box. Bri: You start out really loud and then he goes nice and distorted like this *makes raspberry sound* It sounds really loud *Pffffttttttt * (laughing again) Oh Roy… good man. Alice: I always said that if you were ever going to cast Nero in a movie, you know, the decadence of Rome, you’d have to cast Roy Thomas Baker as Nero. Bri (at same time): Haha, yea Put your head back in the oven… yea *They laugh together * Alice: Now I, I always have to ask about this too because it was so unique to anything else, um. The theatricality of “Bohemian Rhapsody”. Uh, I mean did that come from Freddie’s appreciation of Opera?? Or or… Bri: Its really Freddie’s baby yea. I don’t think anybody quite really knows where it came from. Um Freddie and I both grew up in an England, which was very dominated by sort of light classics and musicals. Uh we were pretty drenched in that stuff, I think probably we wouldn’t have admitted that we liked it when we were kids. But it was sort if in there and I think when we started to make rock music, which was our own music those ingredients were in there and we sort of didn’t shy away. So theres this strange mixture of kind of classical bits and pieces and musical. Musical is a very English thing and um, it all came together to make this strange tapestry that we were able to weave. But Freddie is the genius of Bohemian Rhapsody, yea we all helped but it was really Freddie’s baby. Bohemian Rhapsody begins to play. At the conclusion of the amazing “tapestry” that is Bohemian Rhapsody, Alice concluded with this fun little bit: “That was QUEEN with Bohemian Rhapsody, and if you don’t know that, GO AWAY. Just Go away. Hide yourself in shame Tom Dooley, Hang down your head and cry. Which was in the great “Wayne’s World” scene in the car, the head-banging scene, which im sure everybody does anytime that song comes on now. It was also done on “American Idol” and “Rock Star: INXS” contests. The first time I heard that song I just went “what was that??”. It could only be QUEEN. My Thanks To Brian May for being on the show. And a couple of times Brian jumped on stage and played with us, which was great. He can’t sneak in anywhere cuz hes like 7 feet tall. And one of the most HUMBLE guys in the business. Just, a great guitar player though. If you’re one of the lucky listeners in Philadelphia, who were at the Queen and Paul Rodgers show tonight in Philly, you are excused to night.” |

Then, and only then, would I go see it, if they credits had WRITTEN BY BRIAN MAY in bold letters. That'd be awesome. |
