I bought a video from an eBayer in Ireland - Queen Hyde Park 1976 link link It was described as being professionaly filmed. It has a QTV symbol in the right lower corner, and in the left lower corner is a running video recorder time clock. The picture and the sound quality are minimum good, as advertised on eBay, so I am ok with what I received. It is always great fun to see yet another version of Freddie and all. At the end of the concert are some miscellaneous add-ons - one being a TV interview with Jim Hutton - what a sweetheart! I was very impressed with him. I paid not much for the video - I think the postage was more than the item. My questions to Queenzone experts: . The video cover shows Freddie in his red and white striped shorts, but he does not wear those shorts in this concert. (Duh, someone out there is messing with covers/video.) However, I am curious to know during what tour/what concert(s) did Freddie wear these shorts? I have seen a lot of pictures of the shorts, but I have never seen a live episode. . What is QTV? . Was Hyde Park ever professionally released, or is this the best there is? . Was this the first time Freddie wore a white leotard, and did he wear it in other venues, or was it a one-time thing? It is amazing that anyone can sing and move around on stage with so much confidence in such a skin-tight outfit. Who else could sit at a piano in a white leotard?!!! That flat stomach! There isn't an ounce of fat on him. . For those who saw Hyde Park, it seemed to me it would have been a somewhat difficult concert to "stand" through, especially because the first 3/4's of it was rather operatic, what with the White Queen and the Black Queen, etc., but the last 1/4 was more rock and roll. I know it was free, and even now, 30 years later, it still seems on the cutting edge. It is always fun to view the many incarnations of Queen. |

It is always fun to view the many incarnations of Queen.- Freddie wore those shorts during the A Day At The Races tour in 1977. Too bad, we only have got pictures. No video material is known yet. You can see John is playing his MusicMan Stingray-bassguitar, that's the proof of it, really. He began to use it during the Races tour, but not on the early shows. Video of Uniondale proofs this. He probably used it only for the European gigs and the latter American gigs, such as Los Angeles 1977. - QTV = Queen TeleVision. It was recorded by them. - Hyde Park isn't offically released. Yes, there is better footage available. It's in the archives of QueenProductions. It also depends on what kind of generation your video is. Your video is probably 7th or 8th generation copy or something like that. And it's just a copy of the bootlegvideo, not the mastertape! - I think 1976 was the first time he began to wore the white leotard. He also wore it during the early stage of the Races tour. (The American tour, to be precise) |

Yes of course, here's the link. link Sorry I took so long to answer, I had to leave for work and I've just returned. Early Queen is always welcome at Yeeshkul. I've posted two Queen audience recordings so far and they were warmly welcomed. Cheers and thanks once more. |
Barry Durex 15.11.2014 08:08 |
There is also a good version on Yeeshkul! of Paris 79 DVD without the QTV logo |

Barry Durex could you please pass the linkk to the 1979 Paris on Yeeshkul? I can't find it. I'd like to take the opporunity to thank Pittrek: I've enjoyed a lot with your productions, especially Emperors of Japan and the Earls Court Dvd. It's an honour sir. |
Elias Pies de Plomo 16.11.2014 08:10 |
Sorry, when I reloaded the page to submit my previous comment the link showed up. Thanks Barry. |
pittrek 16.11.2014 10:58 |
Oh it's Kurgan's version, yes, that one is nice, but the QTV logo version has better picture quality. |
Barry Durex 16.11.2014 11:22 |
I have different opinion, but we all have our own one I guess. The Paris '79 (QTV logo version) also has audio flutter / buzzing. |
The Real Wizard 16.11.2014 15:49 |
They all do. The bootleg LP from an audience tape ultimately sounds better than any of the videos. That said - the few clips from documentaries are salivating. |
Barry Durex 17.11.2014 05:09 |
^ A slight misunderstanding, I was referring to the Paris 79 QTV logo version, which also has some audio flutter/buzz. The version without the logo does not. |

pittrek wrote: Oh it's Kurgan's version, yes, that one is nice, but the QTV logo version has better picture quality.Yep. that's probably one of my many DVDs I've made over the years.. I used to take an SVHS recorder with me to convention, but once it moved from Prestatyn, they stopped showing the good stuff :( |
Elias Pies de Plomo 17.11.2014 07:24 |
Hello, again. So regarding your opinion Wizard, Pittrek and Barry which version would go? However I've been watching some sample and I think that the best option for a 1979 dvd for those of us who still got none would be Munich '79, do you agree? I hit the torrent for Munich but I got stuck right away. |
The Real Wizard 18.11.2014 00:28 |
Indeed - Munich 79 is one of the best Queen videos of all. But it's just 6 songs. I'd kill to see the rest of it. |
musicland munich 18.11.2014 00:37 |
^ Was it a TV film crew ( german ?) if so do we know for wich channel they were working....remember a request in their vaults/archieves costs me nothing but two minutes for an email. |

Regor 18.11.2014 13:37 |
It's from the show 'Music Box' of station 'Südfunk Stuttgart'. It features an interview conducted by Thomas Gottschalk, one of germanys most famous TV-Hosts. Bit of a surprise because he used to work for 'Bayerischer Rundfunk'. But anyway, really great footage, even though the fact that you can see the stands behind the stage including a lit-up entrance kind of always bothered me. Dunno if they filmed the whole show though, perhaps musicland_munich can find out more. |

Barry Durex 19.11.2014 05:54 |
I think the video looks about the same on both. Brians wig's SHVS > DVD and Kurgan's Betamax > DVD. Kurgan's version is higher bitrate judging by size of disc. Kurgan's version has slight edits where source tape was damaged and is also logo free. Kurgan also lists FULL logo free broadcast of Buenos Aires '81 at TTD. |
pittrek 19.11.2014 06:41 |
Yes, I have Buenos Aires too and I again think that Brians wig's QTV version has again better picture quality :-) I'll try to post some comparison samples this weekend |
Barry Durex 19.11.2014 07:04 |
^ Is it latest kurgan transfers you have? He did them again with a better dvd recorder. Perhaps the size of your discs will tell you if you have the latest versions if you compare them with his listings at TTD. |
pittrek 19.11.2014 07:30 |
No, I have the first one only (I think) |
Barry Durex 19.11.2014 07:37 |
^ That would explain it then. I think the Paris '79 on Yeeshkul! could be a later version as it matches (in size) the one at TTD. It is still being seeded at Yeeshkul! by the looks of it. The sizes of later QTV (logo free) versions by Kurgan appear to be: Paris '79 - 4.18GB Buenos Aires '81 - 4.27GB |
