Hello! I'll copy and paste the mini-review I just put up at QOL: As for the show! Awesome. The highlight for me was definitely Dragon Attack. It really blew me away. It was super tight, just like it was on the WWRY dvd from Montreal. Better yet, though, they do the whole song. (including "Showdown, go find another customer", etc. ) This was one kick ass crowd. Very loud, very knowledgable. My whole section never sat once, even during the guitar solo. And how about that guy in the front row with the huge Freddie banner? Fantastic! I also saw a "There can be only one" banner, which really made me smile. I also noticed the guy that lead Brian back to his spot with a small flashlight as Bad Company began. Those of us who knew about last night's DC incident probably chuckled. Did anyone see towards the end of Alright Now, when Paul pretended to throw his mike stand to Spike, and Spike kinda went "Phew" and did the sign of the cross? That was funny. I really think they enjoyed themselves, the place was packed and was so loud. Great night. |

Brian showed no ill effects from his fall in DC. He was very mobile and played up a storm! He really seemed to kick ass on Hammer to Fall! He also bounded up the stairs for his Last Horizon part with no problems. As for the new song, Take Love, I like it a lot. It does sound like it came right out of the Bad Company songbook. When I saw Paul with the guitar, I thought they were going right into CLTCL. But that came next. I would really like to hear a bootleg version of Take Love, to try to figure out the lyrics a bit better. But all in all, a good song indeed. And the song Bad Company was fabulous. Seeing Paul at the piano naturally made me think of Freddie, and how great it would be to see him sitting there. I really want to see if Brian writes about tonight in his soapbox, because he had to be impressed with the crowd's size and enthusiasm. |

That show was absolutely incredible. Words can not even describe. And wow Brian and Roger still sound excellent. I never cared much for Rogers voice but last night he was amazing. In short. I'm still in shock. Awe-inspiring. I'll never forget it. |

Excellent! You attendees in the cities coming up are in for a treat. It pleased me to see Brian happy to return to New England and we even got a few smiles out of Roger as well. Exceeded my expectations which were not small. The pacing in terms of mixing the power numbers versus the softer ones was on the money. Sound: The mix and sound engineering were the best I have EVER heard in the DCU. I saw 2 veterans at the mixing board. Also the video screens were turned off at some key moments the emphasize the band. Lighting: Again perfection and innovation with subtle touches of simplification at some key moments. Everything was on queue. Many don't realize all the work that goes into this, and at showtime you have to deliver your best. 21 hours of pain - 3 hours of glory. During Brian's "Brighton Rock-ish" solo he was applying these unique, brilliant, and haunting drone tones which took it to a new place. Proof to all us older musicians that we can continue growing on our instruments. Paul Rodgers vocals were pristine throughout. He has an awful lot of subtle things going on - signs of a true master. Roger Taylor pushed himself very hard on the drums - par for the course for him. There is a huge difference in playing a 2 1/2 hour set at age 60 versus 30 - if you play the drums you'll understand that, he delivered the goods in a big way. He also got out from behind the drums and delivered 2 very nice solo vocals again pointing out that he is great singer in his own right. The rhythm guitarist (Jaime?) provided that perfect level of support to Brian and provided some nice grind to the Bad Company numbers. The bass player again another true profesional who knew the stuff front-to-back. Hats off to Brian for doing this gig. From my vantage point and thru big binoculars, this professional was in clear pain but he was sucking it in and giving an extraordinary performance, fighting for it at times to make it that way. Clearly he was pacing himself in a delicate balancing act. His back looked very much out of alignment, sort of like an "S" shape, walking looked painful for him. My back does the exact same thing when it goes out on me - those first 24 hours can be throbbing pain. I would not have been surprised if he was on potent painkillers/anti-inflammatories, but those only dull the pain a bit. Late into the set and with the encouragement of the audience to help his back seemed to loosen up somewhat and the mobility and smiles became more prevalent. Also Roger himself was wincing as well, hitting those drums hard is hard on the hands and body. Again, another professional sucking it in and giving a extraordinary performance. |

BEST SHOW EVER. Sound quality was far better than NJ, which was pretty good in its own right... I'm in the process of uploading my pics to photobucket (all 125 of them!). I'll post a link when I'm done. Not that anyone cares, but I was the guy at the end of the catwalk in section 1 with the Flash Gordon t-shirt. |

Yeah, it was a great show, good energy from the audience who seemed to really enjoy it, and the band reflected that in their performance. It seems like the band is really tight and performing well together. A fantastic way to spend an evening... |
Erin 11.03.2006 10:54 |
Quick question- Were you guys allowed to go up to the railing around the catwalk? Same question for those in DC. You couldn't in Jacksonville and Atlanta. I'm hoping that isn't the case for most places. |

Random thoughts - Roger wore his "shades" up until CLTCL. I don't believe Brian started the show with the Red Special - it appeared to be one of his "copies" early in the show. anyway. DCU Security around the catwalk were really cool. I was holding my leather jacket against the barrier (because it was like a furnance in the DCU) and early in the show a DCU security guy approaches me - and I think Oh No - here we go; but he just takes my coat from me and places inside the barrier just below one of the catwalk monitors! Twilight Zone ???? |
roxxanne61 11.03.2006 12:49 |
yup right against the railing here too before they started we were at the railing and one of the DCU people said to us "when the show starts you'll have to take your seats"ummmmm yeah ok, music of ac/dc started we got back up got to the railing and never sat down again they never said a word yes security guys were awesome i had one in front of me who looked like Randy Jackson from American Idol I CANNOT FIGURE HOW TO POST THESE PICTURES CAN SOMEONE HELP ME PLEASE |

I'll post what I wrote over on QOL...This show was absolutely fantastic! It was definitely more energetic than New Jersey. My friends and I were originally sitting 12 seats from the catwalk, and 12 rows back, and I was worried that we weren't going to be able to see (I'm only 5 feet tall). We ended up jumping over the seats in front of us and going to the catwalk during the first song. It was probably one of the most exciting moments of my life when I realized that Paul was standing about 2 feet from me- it was amazing! The band was great, and they seemed to really be enjoying themselves. The place was packed- I hardly saw any empty seats, and the audience was really into it. I loved during 'All Right Now' when they had the audience sing the chorus 4 times in a row! I took a bunch of pictures, and I can't wait to see how they came out! Amazing show!! |
Daniel Nester 11.03.2006 13:07 |
It was also not "three quarters full," as the review says. The top 300 sections were largely empty on the sides, but that adds up to around 800 seats tops, empty. I'd sat it was 9/10 full, sort of the same as DC from what I head. I'd say it was 10,000 out of 12,100. Anybody have hard numbers. GREAT SHOW! |
Daniel Nester 11.03.2006 13:10 |
By the way -- for all you Queenzoners from outside the States, please know there wasn't exactly a legion of friendly Queen fans at the 99 steak house. Seems most of the Queen t-shirt-wearing people were off in their own little world. I would say "Hi" to somebody in a Queen shirt there, I'd point to my own 2005 Tour shirt, and people would all be like, "Ug." Who farted? Not exactly the tailgate party scene in New Jersey, where everybody was hugging each other. |

I was there, section 107. What a night, the last time I saw the boys was Knebworth in 86 so its been a while (and for them too). First time to the DCU and Worcester, being a tight Yorkshireman $20 for parking gave me a fit but the bar at the bottom of the car park was pretty cheap and no cover with ticket stubs on the way out was good. The band rocked, I don't see how anyone could say the venue was 3/4 full, the really top section was not in use but other than that the only empty seats I could see were where people we dancing in the isles, it was a bit sparse when they opened up but it was only about 10 minutes after the posted start time, that (pleasantly) surprised me, I was not expecting them on till 9. I was disappointed we didnt get 39 but Dragon Attack was a bonus, I thought they might can it after the problems in DC. I personally have never heard them perform that one live. Tie you mother down was another favourite and although I never liked Radio Gaga as an album track its a great concert song. I don't normally like Roger to sing but Days of their Lives was excellent and almost brought a tear to my eye. DCU security was non existent so I liked it, not like the oppresiveness at the Stones and Oasis concerts I last went to. I was annoyed because I was sure I wouldnt be allowed a camera in so I never took it. If anyone took any photos from around sect 107 I would appreciate them emailing them to me at: dan.ellis@dmsinconline.com Top night! |

I kinda figured we'd all hang at the bar, instead of eating dinner. I mean, what's the point of all of us going into seperate booths? I said Hi to 5-6 people with different versions of Queen shirts, and one non-Queenzoner chatted me up. This rather unscientific poll confirms my hypothesis that many Queenzoners are rather socially challenged. I mean, it's the night of a Queen concert! Wouldn't ya think there'd be less sourpusses. |
Daniel Nester 11.03.2006 14:27 |

I had the best seat ever. I couldn't believe it. The entire time I was hanging over the rail next to the cat walk. I was five feet away from them. I ran outta space to hold all my photos on the picture immediately, though. LOL. Plus, I got to meet Dan (Mr. Jingles) and his girlfriend. That was so awesome! Last night WAS the BEST night of my life. I will never forget it. In all seriousness, my life is complete after last night. |
Jackie Effin Dahmer 11.03.2006 16:08 |
Last night was easily one of the best nights of my life. I was in shock the whole time, I had to keep pinching myself. I was in section 123 (right side of the stage) in like the 3rd row. I was very impressed with my seats. I kept thinking "These are my fucking seats. I didnt even have to sneak up here". Unfortunatly the people in my section were not half as enthused as I was to be at the concert. The people in back of me asked me to sit down during Brian May's guitar solo. Actually they were talking about me really loud and I happened to hear them say "Sit down punk ass" I turned around and gave them the nastiest glare and said "DO YOU KNOW WHERE YOU ARE? IM NOT SITTING DOWN!" and that was the end of that. The show was amazing. I really hope they come back again. I was the confused looking girl with pink and purple hair. I couldnt find my seats for the longest time haha :) I had so much fun. It was amazing. I got really teary eyed when they played Love of My Life (it's my favorite Queen song). The empty stool just got me. :)! |

Hello all.... Just returned from a grand day out...my full review and thoughts from last nights stunning show can be found on QOL. Have a look in the Worcester thread there that i started...i have noted some details others have not covered. To James, i very much enjoyed your review from a prefessional stance. I really picked up on what you were saying about Brian and Roger last night....care to share some observances you saw last night? What tipped you off that they were in pain? I do hope Brian is alright. Last thing i would want to have happen to him is a bad spell of intesnse pain. The poor bloke has been through enough pain in his lifetime already... |

Sorry things were such a bust for you guys at "99". My seat (never sat in it) was in the first row at the end of the catwalk. I was on the rail the whole time. I had an unobstructed center view of the whole stage. And when Brian was playing at the very end of the catwalk, he was squared up shoulder to shoulder right in front of me. Unbelieveable. I could watch all the expression changes of concentration, exertion, (did I see pain?), effort, playfulness, laughter, being touched by the warmth of the crowd, moments of connection. A wonderful experience to see & hear the music I love so much performed in such a personal way! |

Another media review for Worcester. Finally someone in the media 'gets it', though I think the boys get along much better than just business partners. They seem to genuinely like each other, but it just may be their overwhelming respect for each other's music that is so obvious which lead to the writer's comments. link |

Awesome concert!! Much better than the one in New Jersey, or perhaps I'm saying this because I was able to get floor seats. However, I have to say that Paul Rodgers did indeed sound much better on this concert than last October in NJ. I wasn't too keen of his performance of 'The Show Must Go On' back then, but after last Friday I have to say that the guy is able to pull it off incrdibly well. Of course, for him to step inside the Freddie Mercury shoes, the audience will feel that they're a bit loose, but he's still able to walk with them. My only criticism has to go for not making too many changes to the setlist. Personally I was expecting songs like 'Keep Yourself Alive', 'It's Late', 'Now I'm Here' or 'Headlong', but I didn't see any particular changes other than 'Take Love', and 'Dragon Attack'. I'm not very fond of 'Dragon Attack' because it just sounds too much like 'Another One Bites The Dust' and that song is already on the set list. I have to say that I really liked 'Take Love' it was a very nice song, even though this is the first time we start hearing it. I was really upset because 'I Want It All' was dropped off the setlist. It's one of their most KICK ASS live rock songs, and I can't see a justified reason to drop it. I was very dissapointed about not seeing them perform it. |
james123 12.03.2006 08:56 |
Hi Deacons 1st Choice. I was using 10 x 50 binocs and from the start I noticed that Brian was "favoring" one side and was having some mobility problems, that tipped me off. I had heard about the D.C. incident beforehand. Thru the binocs I was also flipping over to Roger and watching him. Drumming is hard on the back as you have to pivot/twist side to side very quickly to do certain fills. He also looked to be hitting the snare in such a way as to not shock his left hand so much like younger drummers do. |
Deacons 1st Choice 12.03.2006 09:09 |
I agree..."I Want It All" is indeed awesome live. You would think it would be something they would WANT to play since it went over so extremely well at other shows ( US included!) and it's a tune they have'nt been able to really play live now for many many years. I honestly thought it would be back in the set for Worcester. It's a mistake to leave it out. My feeling is that if "IWIA" was played in Worcester the place would have absolutely gone ballastic! As noted in a earlier post, "IWIA" was a huge hit here in the Boston area on the local radio stations ( #1 for 6 weeks was it?)in May of 89'. If ANY city stop should have had it, it should have been Worcester...but i'm not complaining! The set was fab as it was, though as stated in my extensive review on QOL i think "Break Free" was a bit lost with this crowd. If "IWIA" replaced "BF" my God what a set THAT would have been! Here's hoping "IWIA" finds it's way back into the set.....i'm sure many fans have already written in and asked for it. Ah well...look on the bright side, this just means they will have to COME BACK and play it for us! Ha ha ha!! :) Seriously though...i am so very happy about Brian's warm words about the show. This is fantastic news, as this means in the future if Q+PR consider touring again they will remember us and be sure to stop by for another show! Based on what you saw the other night, who here thinks that this is likely...Q+PR doing another tour later in the year or event next year? I myself could see one more round...as for many this was the first taste for them. I'm sure once this tour is over, the buzz left behind will be phenomenal. I can maybe see them coming back in the autumn for a few dates....not a huge venue tour, but you never know. If they DID come back, where would you suggest they play? Interested in any thoughts on this. Personally, i would love to see them play the Orpheum Theatre here in the city or even the old Harborlights Pavillion ( the name has changed, but i still all it "Harborlights") Ah yes....that would be something. Of course the Garden would be awesome and the ultimate....guess time will tell after they have re-visited the UK and had some time off for a well deserved rest. |
turini 12.03.2006 10:52 |
Deacon i highly think that the band will continue after this. Record a studio album and as usual when you make an album PROMOTE IT! maybe they will do a world tour if the old buggers are up to it. maybe about 10 shows in usa and DEFINATLY one in worcester |
Deacons 1st Choice 12.03.2006 18:35 |
Hi James.. Thanks for the feedback....very interesting. Roger seemed a tad raw at the start of the show ( mood wise, not playing wise...he kicked serious butt that night!) but seemed to warm a little better once they knew it was going good. Brian was amazing considering what he was probably going though. A true showman....indeed the "Show Must Go On" no matter what! I hope his sore spots are healing up. Yes, Q+PR would do well to return. It will be interesting to see what happens next. My therory is that after the US leg they take some time off and then shortly thereafter announce some UK dates, maybe even a few EU stops. This would bring us up to late Summer. At that point maybe they will take a well deserved rest, possibly record something maybe? Let's say this DID happen, then i would see a return to the tour circuit next year. This is all far fetched, and just me theorizing and fantasizing. In all seriousness though if the shows are going this well with NO promotion from Hollywood Records just imagine how much BIGGER it would be if they DID have some PR! This is why i am very happy the Worcester show was so well recieved by the Band. It will help keep us on the "must go back there since it was so good.." list! Yay! :) |

I disagree D1C they are not going to be touring over here agoin or next year. This is it and they move on. Paul has solo stuff to do. |
JMIV 12.03.2006 19:40 |
I don't believe that we'll see QPR have another full fledged tour here again but I hope I'm wrong. A distinct possibility could be added dates to the tour if they feel that they could have more successful shows. The reason why I can't see them on another US/Canadian tour is that they have so many other fans all over the world as well, ie: South America is one that comes to mind. These lads are pushing 60 now and I'm sure the physical & mental strain of touring will bring fatigue more quickly then when they were younger. Prehaps a few benefit shows here in the states in the future but that's all I see unless QPR cut a record of new material and it sells well. THEN you may see another round of world touring but this is all speculation of course. One can dream! |
turini 12.03.2006 20:20 |
no matter what im happy. if paul goes solo he could possibly come here and i would DIE in happyness to see him again he did amazing at queen |
Mr Faron Hyte 12.03.2006 23:13 |
I agree - if the Q+PR thing comes to a halt at the end of this tour, and they never play another note together, I would absolutely see Paul Rodgers solo anytime. He has simply impressed the shit out of me, and I would be more than happy to hear him peforming his own material anytime. He is one hell of a performer. |
The Stealer 12.03.2006 23:18 |
If QPR is done after this, I will be very sad but satisfied..I have and will embarked on a great Rock Journey. I will be seeing Paul on any solo perforances that may come my way in the future..He is absolutely amazing and inspiring. |

Compliance Queen wrote: I disagree D1C they are not going to be touring over here agoin or next year. This is it and they move on. Paul has solo stuff to do.Very likely true, but ya never know...... I don't think anybody here seriously thought they would come over and perform Stateside at all at this time last year. There were many who did'nt even see Q+PR as anything more then a one-off attraction at the Fancourt gig. Now look at where we are.....amazing is'nt it? You just never know what the future will bring... This tour is a great gift to us all...and it's one we need to start appreciating and treasuring. This may well never happen again on US soil....very possibly this is "it". That does'nt rule out more shows overseas though....so there is at least another chance for those of us who like to travel, and can tollerate the crazy atmosphere of "general admission" venues. |

well just be glad we had the rocking show we did REMEMBER THE BEST SHOW OF THE QPR TOUR Because Uniondale was not i just experienced it and the crowd sat on there butts very disturbing to a big Queen fan shame on them all |

I really miss the Worcester show already. What an atmosphere. I find myself thinking of the show a lot during the course of the day. I am kinda sad because I may never experience it again, but I can't help but smile because every minute of that show ROCKED!!! |

If they came back to New England again, I would really want to go. The thing is, they would have to come to Providence or Foxboro because I don't think I could get my Dad to go to Worcester again...he would never take me to Boston either. What a bummer! |

I am in the exact state of mind...and i'm still basking in the afterglow. It was all over too quickly, but now we can sit back and re-experince it in our minds. I have been cranking the Queen tunes non-stop for the past week before the show, and that has not let up at all! I do hope in some way, shape, or form we have not seen the last of these guys... Did any of you see the spectacular sunset that evening? If you were staying at the Hampton Inn and looked out your window there was literally rays of light streaming out of the DCU. Absolutely beautiful...and very fitting. |

Did anybody see the rather less than flattering review in today's Boston Globe? This particularly knowledgable reviewer even referred to one song that she thought was subpar as "Come On Down." Hmmmm, I must have missed that one. |
Shane Jazz 14.03.2006 00:58 |
link Rodgers, who back in his longer-haired and slimmer-hipped Free days pioneered rock posturing, twirled the mike high in the air like a triumphant warrior as his sultry, blues-rock voice belted out Queen's ''Tie Your Mother Down," ''Fat Bottomed Girls," and ''Crazy Little Thing Called Love." Bad Company's ''Feel Like Makin' Love" and ''Bad Company" and a predictable ''Can't Get Enough of Your Love" were a cinch. Some songs, however, were lifeless: ''I Want to Break Free," ''Another One Bites the Dust," and ''Come on Down" were plain, stodgy stomps. May's guitar solo spot, which consisted of rudimentary chords fed through a pitch shifter and/or delay, was less appealing than Taylor's vocal leads on a warm ''I'm in Love With My Car" and a bland ''Radio Ga Ga." A newly minted song, the raunchy, midtempo ''Take Love," which was written by Rodgers with May and Taylor, made this jaunt seem a preliminary exercise and a studio disc a reasonable near-future possibility. |
james123 14.03.2006 07:29 |
That critic sounds like a "failure to launch" former Boston musician - plenty of 'em around. |
james123 14.03.2006 07:32 |
With apologies to you all, but my gut feeling is that in terms of touring the U.S. that this is the last "spin around the block". I am grateful that I attended the DCU Center show and saw the band in top-flight mode. |
Mr. Mercury 1975 14.03.2006 14:16 |
link Wow... that reviewer for the globe sure must have been at a different shown than the rest of us. She obviously has no clue. And by the way... what the hell is 'Come on Down'???? I wonder what Brian would think of her observation of his solo: "May's guitar solo spot, which consisted of rudimentary chords fed through a pitch shifter and/or delay" If you ask me, this was a 'rudimentary' review... |
goodco 14.03.2006 14:38 |
Wow! They did 'London Town-C'mon Down' !?!?!?!! Fantastic!!!!!! Might she be referring to 'Dragon Attack'? What a moron. Wonder what she thought of the opening number, 'Lately', and the great 'Oh You Gonna Take Me Home Tonight'. |
TheGame 14.03.2006 14:57 |
That Boston article pissed me off. The ending line, "Superstar karaoke"...arrgh! That Linda Laban did not appeal very seriously as a journalist, that poor creature! |
Mr. Mercury 1975 14.03.2006 17:06 |
I wrote that globe columnist the following email: "I read your review of the QPR show from last week. Can I just inquire as to whether or not we were at the same show? What I saw was anything but ‘superstar karaoke’. You might take a little visit to Brianmay.com and see what the guitar LEGEND himself had to say about the Worcester show. He and many others are calling it the best Queen & Paul Rodgers show yet. Or perhaps go over to queenonline.com or queenzone.com and see what the people there have to say. I’d like to see whether Brian agrees that his guitar solo… oh how did you put it… I believe you said it “consisted of rudimentary chords fed through a pitch shifter and/or delay.” Interesting observation and one that I think many guitar players (myself included) would take exception to. Finally, I searched and searched through the setlist posted on queenonline.com, but I couldn’t find where they played anything called ‘Come on Down’. Perhaps you could enlighten me as to where in the set they played it. Or for that matter what Queen or Paul Rodgers album it came from. Oh…that’s right. It doesn’t exist. That’s exactly what anyone who was paying attention to the show is going to do with your review – pretend it doesn’t exist. Have a nice day… " |
SweetLou 14.03.2006 17:42 |
Well said Mr. Mercury...nicely done. |
Donna13 14.03.2006 18:34 |
So to sum it up, she is describing the show as: triumphant, sultry, blues-rock, predictable, a cinch, lifeless, plain, stodgy, rudimentary, less appealing, warm, bland, newly minted, raunchy, midtempo, [a] jaunt, and [a] preliminary exercise. |
roxxanne61 15.03.2006 00:59 |
i couldnt resist writing either: DEAR BOSTON GLOBE MANAGEMENT Isnt it true that before you write a story or a review you must first get all your facts straight? what pray tell was this woman talking about when she cannot even correctly name songs that were played last Friday night paul rodgers and his slimmer hipped Free days? what???? I was about three feet from Paul Rodgers and he is in as fine shape today as ever Maybe you should try reviewing something a little simpler than a concert, maybe a nursery school recital then maybe once you get those right you can move up to the big stuff We didn't need your opinion anyways the fans spoke for themselves! Jill P Fitchburg, MA p.s. maybe you should check out what brian may had to say back to you on BRIANMAY.COM |
Mr. Mercury 1975 15.03.2006 12:23 |
I emailed her a link to Brian's response. Did I mention I sent it to her about 10 times? Heh heh heh.... If anyone would like to show their appreciation for the lady's article, you can reach her at: laban@globe.com |

Ah...to HELL with this! We all know this show has a high ranking in the short history of Queen+Paul Rogers. Who the smurf cares what some dip journalist thinks? Obviously as James123 stated, this is surely the effort of a disgruntled ex- musician from the Boston music scene. How the Hell anyone can make those comments regarding Brian's amazing and brilliant guitar work is simply beyond me. I was having a pretty good day until i read that crap article. I'm a bit steamed, but i'm going to just blow it off. Everyone will soon see just how damn good the DCU show was that night...so good Brian names it THE BEST show yet for Q+PR. That's saying a lot considering that Bri considered the NJ show "..the most amazing thing we may have ever done.." I am thrilled to learn that this show was captured on Hi Fi video. Soon the world will see just how fine a performance it was...and will forget crap articles like the one above. Im really surprised at the Globe too...they are usually the better of the local newspapers...but then again, it was the Herald that had Brian on it's front page the last time he played in town! Yay Herald! |
