This past weekend my local PBS station broadcast the Queen + Paul Rodgers concert from Sheffield 2005.
I was very surprised by how much I enjoyed it.
I am old enough to remember the Bad Company hits, so Paul Rodgers sounded great singing them with Queen backing him.
Freddie and early Queen years were memorialized via a large screen video montage while "These are the Days of Our Lives" was performed.
Paul Rodgers never attempted to be Freddie. We got to hear Roger Taylor and Brian May sing lead on certain songs.
It was a great show. I have seen the original Queen in concert....a fantastic spectacle! The new blend of two bands really works unless you are so fixated on Freddie that you can't accept his passing on.
Most important to me were the frequent and respectful nods to Freddie's memory thoughout the concert. I could imagine his spirit watching from the wings with approval.
