Shaking my head!!!
True story:
Today, I went to my local library, and I was actually looking for art instructional books, and I came across a Rolling Stone covers book, I didnt check it out, but I dedicided to take a little "look see" lol. Anywho, they went throw each decade from the start of the magazine, until the 90's, I skimmed through somewhat fast. I was looking at all of the covers: Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, John Lennon+Yko Ono, The Eagles, Aerosmith, The Rolling Stones, Jim Morrision, Paul+Linda Mccartney, Diana Ross, Micheal Jackson hell, even the Go-Go's were on a cover back in 81. And of course, they had Mick Jagger on like every other cover, kissing ass I guess!? NO QUEEN, None, no Freddie, Brian, Roger, or John!!! Not that I saw up into the 90's, I only made it up to like 1987, but hell, by 1987, they should have at least been on ONE COVER!!!
Does this magazine had/have a strong dislike for them?
Rolling Stone, and the American media in general, has never been big fans of Queen. Rolling Stone recently did a list of 500 Best Albums and 500 Best Songs....A Night at the Opera was the only Queen album on the list, and at about #250...Bo Rhap was about #150, and We Will Rock you was around #400. Honestly, it was/is pretty absurd...but whatever. I'm over it.
And another thing...
Its not like I dont like any of the artist that I mentioned on the first post, but I think if the Go-Go's could be on a cover of Rolling Stone, at least Queen could have or could be on a cover? Hell, even Britney Spears was on a cover!!! Come on!!!
good news is the circulation for this rag is at an all time low,its now as relevant at Saturday night live.when you think Courtney Love and Britney Spears are hip its time to change your format.
Remember that queen wasn't a really important band in the USA. And RS magazine is American. Queen had their moment with "the Game" and after that...Nothing. Even Bo Rhap only made it to number 9 in the billboard charts...
Who can blame RS magazine? Queen only had a couple of big hits in the States...

First, 'Bohemian Rhapsody' went to #2 during it's "Wayne's World" peak. Second, you have never needed to be a band with a lot of hits to get coverage in RS, The Velvet Underground were not hitmakers but RS drools over them. You also don't need to be American for the magazine to cover you either. Just read it and see countless Brit bands in it's pages.
I'm surprised Queen was mentioned at all.
RS also don't like Billy Joel (I think there were some legal issues there), and progressive rock bands like ELP in general. I think both artists were just left out of the most recent RS Album guide...RS blatantly shows how biased they are...that's why their new buying guide gets scathing reviews on Amazon.com. People are sick of them.
