no. it was a protest at the american gun-laws
the National Rifle Association of America have always been quoted as saying "guns don't kill people, people do"
which is where Brian's lyric
"A gun never killed nobody, you can ask anyone...people get killed by people
people with GUNS"
i don';t think it was about lennon
I don't know specifically if it is about Lennon, but the first verse pretty much describes the Lennon shooting. Back to back with Life is Real leads me to believe it was written around the time of Lennon's dath, and as a response.
"A gun never killed nobody, you can ask anyone...people get killed by people
people with GUNS"
- I have to say, I think this line is one of the most cringeworthy ones that Queen ever recorded.

Yea, I agree. Its an utterly pathetic line in an otherwise good song.

Please Lord, give me strength. As mentioned previously, the NRA states "guns don't kill people, people do." So when Brian's lyric says people got shot by people, "PEOPLE...WITH...GUNS", it's in the form of a rebuttal to the ridiculous people of the NRA who refuse to acknowledge the role guns play in the deaths of their fellow citizens. It's like everybody elses other cringe worthy line of Brian's from Sweet Lady where his woman sings "you call me sweet like I'm some kind of cheese." People here have posted that cheese isn't sweet (though of curse there is sweet cheese), but the point isn't about cheese. Listen to how Freddie sings the line. He sings it in the tone of "give me a break, I'm sick of your bullshit games" with his tongue firmly in cheek. It's not literal, it's an expression, and much like "people with guns", it makes a point. There are 100 more cringe worthy lines in the catalogue than these two.
Yah I don't take the delivery of that line too seriously, he's obviously taking the piss out of these stupid gun-carrying idiots. I don't see how anyone could take issue with it unless they were one of the aformentioned Cavemen.
Life is Real is the only song that's *really* for Lennon in any way, Put Out the Fire is a more general song about gun violence I guess. But that's not to say they weren't thinking about people like John Lennon, Marvin Gaye and whatnot when they made it.

it's meant to sound utterly pathetic - that's the point...see my previous post...(above)
the reason this "pathetic" line was inserted is because it is a sarcastic swipe at the National Rifel Association of America...who every tiem some kids wastes a whole classroom.. or whenever a cop gets killed by some idiot with a gun...they ALWAYS say "Gun's don't kill people, people kill people"
so Brian inserted the line and added "people with Guns"
