This is the deal. I'm a guns n' roses fan and the GNR community is going crazy because there were 4 demo tracks leaked from 'Chinese Democracy' in the last few days. The four tracks leaked were: 01) IRS (a rocker track, the heaviest of them) 02) There Was A Time (an Epic, kinda like 'Estranged' or 'November Rain' 03) Better (a very psicodelic track, another completely diferent style of song comparing the GNR past) and finally, this final leak called 'Catcher In The Rye' It's been said that Brian May recorded some material with W. Axl Rose (you may know this for sure) but we still dont knowmore info than that. If you go to link message board you can find 20 discussion page topic discussing if Brian May is playing guitar in this track, as there is no official info confirming it. I think that Brian is playing in this 'Catcher In The Rye' track, but I'm not the expert: YOU ARE. Can you help me? Pay attention from 1:17 to 1:52... I think it's him, and the majority of the GNR community thinks the same You can download and listen to this track pressing the following link link PS: If you want the other 3 leaked tracks, just give me a shout Thanks in advance |

First off- thank you very much for this, it's appreciated. In regards to it being BHM on there- not sure, I don't think anything conclusively proves it. Have you heard "The Blues" yet? I've heard good things about it, but have yet to hear it myself. |
estebanf 01.03.2006 04:07 |
'The Blues' has been performed live several times but there is not a finished version or a leaked demo track like this one. It's a nice song, the most familiar with the old GNR sound. A piano-ballad with heavy guitars. Thanks for replying! |

Here you have 2 of the 3 other leaked tracks There Was A Time link Better link I think that 'There Was A Time' is the best of the four. They're just demos, don't expect a finished work. But they are still amazing tunes, with an outstanding Buckethead guitar performance (specially in TWAT) |

Thanks for the Chinese Democracy demos. I guess it is not Brian May who plays on Catcher in the Rye, doesn't really sound much like him. I couldn't imagine that he'd play another guitar but his. I don't think it actually sounds like G'n'R at all. They reached their climax in 1991 and that was it. Anyway, I think Axl's voice sounds very different than back in 91. Have you seen the MTV Awards performance from 2003? That really sucked. Anyway, it's just my opinion. |

To add a bit to the mix... Without using Brian's direct quotes, from his website - he was asked to record 3 tracks on the record. I have also read that he contributed other 'small' bits elsewhere, so I don't know how much is actually on the album. Brian states specifically that he would not reveal what tracks he was on -- at least not before the album is released. That's not to say that other sources might have already revealed what titles include Brian's playing. Here's a link: link Scroll down a bit to '21 Sept 03' ...for what it's worth. Andrew |

Anyway, it's just my opinion.the MTV Video Music Awards that GNR played was 2002, not 2003. that was the most seen cable event of all times. Axl's voice sucked in that performance, and in fact his voice has really changed from 1991 to now. If I have more statements or news about Brian May playing in this or another track from Chinese Democracy, I will post it here. |

I think he plays in this song. I´m not totally sure but for me some guitar solos sounds like brian. Attention from 5:00 to the end of the song. Sorry for my bad english. |

Doesn't sound like Red Special to me. Thanks for the demos, though. |

Anyone who can make a torrent file of it? |
Adam Baboolal 02.03.2006 14:07 |
Definitely sounds like Brian's tone to me. Peace, Adam. |
Jjeroen 02.03.2006 14:29 |
From 1:17 to 1:52 it definately is NOT Brian. It's obviously a brand guitar Brian never used (my ears tell me it's a Gibson or such) and the player clearly has a different technique. The latter solo-bits; now THOSE could very well be him. Hard to tell for sure though. |
Adam Baboolal 02.03.2006 14:40 |
I meant at around 2:25 onwards, it should be clearer there. But I definitely hear a couple of little sprinkles of Brian's guitar in places. Does no-one hear the buried harmony guitars at around 1:07 seconds? Peace, Adam. |

here's a clearer version of 'Catcher In The Rye' (without clicks, drops and errors) link thank you for all your answers. |

From queen-fip.com: "BM ON LEAKED GNR MATERIAL...?" One of the biggest stories flying around the music industry at the moment is the leaking of several new Guns N' Roses tracks which are thought to be taken from the long awaited 'Chinese Democracy' album. One track, the lastest track to emerge, is 'Catcher In The Rye' which includes two short melodic bursts of some very Brian May-like soloing. Nothing has been 100% confirmed but Brian has heard the track and confirms it could well be him! Brian spent some time with Axl Rose over in an LA recording studio in 1998. Other tracks to have been heard include: 'The Blues', 'TWAT' or 'There Was A Time', 'Better' and 'IRS'. Guns N' Roses have confirmed several festival dates across Europe including Sunday 11th June at Download. Ja Ja!!! |

ah yes ... "Catcher in the Rye" is a great track .. I was pretty surprised to find a mix of it in my inbox this week .... after all these years. I wonder who leaked this stuff. Yes, my guitar is there, nice and crisply recorded. It was a blast doing the sessions. I had flown out to LA specially to play on the record for Axl. I've sat on whatever I have or know about these songs ever since that moment .... out of respect for Axl .... confidentiality is part of respect for me. So I will watch with interest. I like the track a lot and always did ... and it still sounds very fresh ... the thing that hits you first is that incredible, incredible voice ... we've been missing it for far too long. Axl is magic. Love Bri © brianmay.com |

GN'R (and Queen) fan here. I am absolutely blown away by Brian's playing on this track. Brian and Axl make for a great combination that just about any lover of classic rock can appreciate. I sincerely hope Axl keeps Brian's parts on the album and that the possibility for more collaboration exists in the future. Great playing Brian! Congratulations. |
