Wondering if anyone has gotten albums by longtime Freddie friend Peter Straker. I know there's Queen boots with tracks produced by Freddie, but the actual albums seem to be hard to find. |
Jjeroen 27.02.2006 07:03 |
I've got Peter Strakers original 'This One's On Me' album. Great record, by the way!! Yes, it is relatively hard to find -(as a matter of fact, Peter himself doesn't even have it, believe it or not!- I will give him a copy one of these days, cause it comes up on eBay quite regularly. Check it out - most of the time they don't go too expensive :-) |

I've got "This one's on me" on vinyl. But because it was never released on CD as far as I know, I have burned the complete album on CD, including a nice rework of the cover art. |

Thanks for your thoughts! I actually just ordered that album through a rare album dealer. Apparently, there's three albums, all of which I'm sure bear Freddie's mark in some way -- he's at least in the thank-you list I'm sure. Perhaps some day you'll post the Straker album on the hub? |

This One's On Me though, has Freddie's imput very clearly. And, err, no... sorry, I won't upload officially released stuff, and I'm not even IN the hub to begin with! ;-) |

Peter's album is already on the Hub, as I remember. |

I have the third album - Real Natural Man, had nothing to do with Fred but a great album, and having spoken with Peters Drummer shortly after the album was out, Apart from Freds production Company being involved with Peters first album, Fred had no input on any of the material recorded and released by Peter S. This was also confirmed by the ladies at the Queen office some years ago when I visited there. |
The Original Queen 27.02.2006 11:32 |
ohh and another thing... not that any one asked but IF they did ask.... Peter Straker would make a far better stand in for Freddie than Paul Rodgers. Dont get me wrong, Paul has a good voice in the right place, but after seing some live footage, cant be bothered to pay and see them, Queen is not the right place for his voice. Peter has range, power, quality, seen him live some years back in theater, christ that guy can sing... |

WHY SHARED? IT IS OFFICIAL |
Daniel Nester 27.02.2006 18:30 |
Thanks for the input and the clarification of Freddie involvement or non-involvement in his albums. Not that it's Queenzone's policy, but I could make a decent argument that an album that came out 25 years ago and has been long out of print would be a candidate for file-sharing and fall under the lable of "fair use." As a professor, I digitize long out-of-print spoken word and poetry albums and give them to my students with full confidence that it's completely legal. That's an example from education, sure. But I put up my Humpy Bong 45, for instance, online, with little or no remorse of guilt of bilking anyone out of any money. True, they were officially released circa 1970, but have not see the light of day since on any other format. The same might hold for Straker's albums. |

The only album to bear any mark of Freddie's is 'This One's On Me' - a title which refers to Freddie's paying for the album. There are no 'thank-yous' on any of the other albums. |

Peter does indeed have a copy of the album. In fact he owns a few hundred of them. He was also presented with a copy by both the Queen and Peter Starker fan clubs. He also gave free copies to Tom Baker amongst others. Rock stars - you just gotta believe them!!! And yes - it is OFFICIAL regardless of age or availablitly - and as such - can not be shared in here - just as EARLIER bands like 'The Beatles' the 'Stones', Jimi Hendrix or Jerry Lee Lewis can not be shared in here either, simply because their music remains the property of 'EMI' - and as such are NOT in the public domain. |

I have a "semi-official" Queen CD called "Pre-Ordained" with some Smile tracks and, inexplicably, what appear to be several of the tracks from Peter Straker's "This One's On Me"! I thought when I first listened to it that the vocals were clearly not Freddie, and now I know why! Perhaps whatever company produced this CD saw the publishing was Mercury Songs and just went with it. As soon as I dig it up I'll confirm the track listing, but these must be the Straker songs. |

So far I've got Brian May giving me untrue information about quite some things because of his fading memory, Peter Straker just plain telling me lies about a) Freddie's involvement AND b)him having his own record...? Maybe that last bottle of wine, realy was too much for that old queer... ...I can still hear Brian's rants... Sure Brian, OF COURSE it's al THE MEDIA's fault! He's been doing small theater, plays, revue's, cabaret... stuff like that. He does not want to be in the 'pop-' industry anymore. ...Unless he's been telling me lies about that too... :-S |

But no worries, no one is dissing your reputation, it's just that rock stars say one thing in one interview - and something else in another, and I well believe that final bottle of wine had something to do with it! |
Jjeroen 02.03.2006 05:20 |
Thanks John - but in this case, I'm not happy about it because we did not talk to eachother about this subject in an 'interview'. Peter and I talk privately... Oh and HE paid for the wine! ;-) |
