Does anyone know the terminology for certain defensive moves - upper cut, jab, etc? I'm a writer, and in my current story, my heroine is a bit naive. Her roommate is tough and has taught her certain moves to use if she ever needs to protect herself. Right now, my heroine - a petite woman - is in a situation where she thinks she may need to use those moves, and I'm wondering what they might be and what they might be called. Can anyone help me with this? |

This guy is there - she's seen him a couple of times around town but doesn't know him. She keeps walking; he catches up and starts chatting. It when he calls her by her name that she gets really scared, wondering how he knows her. So... she would start thinking of ways to fight him off if she needs to. I love the names of the moves you gave me, but I don’t know what they are or which ones would she consider using. Remember - she's petite (if that matters), maybe 5'2" or 5'3'. He's a big guy - say 6' and outweighs her considerably. By the way - she's a bit of a girly-girl, so sudden knock-down, drag-outs won’t work for her, you know? Thanks for this!! |

She doesn't need to take him out, necessarily. She just needs to work it out in her mind so she feels some confidence. Then, if she has to do anything, it would only be something that helps her get away. The good old-fashioned groin kick would work, but... what else? |

John Wayne taught me that you can bring a big man down by going after the knee. Otherwise, a punch to the throat, or a shot to the family jewels should do the trick. |

I also like the elbow to the ribs - later she is grabbed from behind, so I would guess that would be her first move, yes? What about the instep stomp I've heard about in the past? Ooo. Spank? Hmm. I've finished that scene I mentioned. Thanks for your info Queen of Wrestling. Much appreciated. I'm about to do another. The one I did wasn't physical, it was a set piece. A foreshadowing of this scene, which IS physical. So can I pick your generous brain some more? If I'm asking too much, tell me, and I'll go away quietly. :-) The guy in this scene is not as big as the one my heroine feared. This is the kind of guy you'd think was 'safe'. He's stocky - okay, heavy, fat, etc. - but quick on his feet, and most importantly, ANGRY. He's into power-play, and she's a little bit of a thing. He thinks he can subdue her instantly, but she's not into waving white flags. Say he comes up behind her... can you give me a possible scenario of how things might play out? (btw - the Hero does come in and save the day, but the heroine puts up a damn good fight for herself until he gets there.) |
That guy who digs energy domes 24.02.2006 21:41 |
Well if he came up behind her and there was no dialogue, he probably would grab her from behind and cup his hand over her mouth- like a chokehold. Because our girl here knows her stuff, she would probably fire a few elbows to the rib until he let go. Then, she could either stare him off until your hero arrives or if she wants a fight, remember the groin kick. Then to make your Hero more manly, he should trade punches and then get some really good move like an uppercut or even cooler like a Chuck Norris roundhouse kick to the head or maybe some throws. Tell me what you think and I'll get back to you. |
Music Man 24.02.2006 21:43 |
