He tries to copy techniques from brian during CLTCL on stage but fails to play anything more complex. Just sticks to his same old 3 chords.
Awwwwww, bless him!
Jeez...
Brian played harp in Love of my Life in a cheaty way, recording each chord separately.
Brian can play piano, keyboards in general, ukelele, bass, programmed drums and i'm guessing more stuff.
Roger can play percussion, guitar, bass, keyboards, kazoo...
John can play guitar (in fact the others state him as the best rhythm guitarrist in the band), double bass, keyboards, piano, drums.

he was a very basic guitar player if I'm right.
Stefan
didn't Brian say freddie was the one who wrote the guitar solo for Bo Rhap. I think i might have heard that on Greatest Video Hits 1. Does that sound right to anyone??
Yeah, Freddie wasn't amazing on the guitar...and he would be the first one to say it!
Nearly every time they would perform CLTCL live, Freddie would make a crack about how he can't play the guitar very well.
For example, at Milton Keynes '82:
"You know, about 10 years ago, i knew three chords on the guitar. Now, in 1982 I know three chords on the guitar."
And Wembley '86 (second night):
"This shitty guitar never plays the chords I want it to play. It only knows three chords, but let's see what happens."
and also there are other quotes such as, "I've made no effort to become a guitar hero because I can't play the fucking guitar!"
But yeah, even if Freddie said he sucks, he's actually not too bad as a guitarist, if you ask me.
> What were the other band members good at playing other than the instruments that played live?
To summarise:
John on stage played bass, triangle and rhythm guitar. Additionally he could play keys on a basic level, double-bass and (reportedly) simple drum patterns.
Brian live played bass, piano, synth, guitar and banjo. In the studio he did some percussion (mostly programmed), ukelele and koto. The harp was cut n' pasted.
Roger live played percussion and guitar. Additionally he recorded some very basic bass and keyboard things.
Freddie live played guitar, tambourine and keyboards. In the studio it was the same as far as I know, maybe some handclapping here and there but nothing special.
> and what is the difference between the Piano and keyboard anywho?
Piano is a keyboard instrument. However, many people say "keyboards" when they refer to "electronic keyboards" like synths, e-pianos or harmoniums.

Not in the slightest way
> but fails to play anything more complex.
Have you seen him trying?

Crazy's got six :)
> Brian also plays harp
He doesn't
> Roger can play percussion, guitar, bass, keyboards, kazoo...
Actually he didn't play kazoo, he did vocal effects without using one. I don't know whether we can state that he "can play keyboards", since his command of the instrument is quite limited. I mean, if I learn a poem in French it doesn't mean I can speak the language. Of course Roger's keyboard abilities went beyond the most basic stuff since he frequently composed songs using the piano, but I doubt he could be considered a "player".
> double bass, keyboards, piano, drums.
Ditto.
> didn't Brian say freddie was the one who wrote the guitar solo for Bo Rhap.
No, but your message is my cue to comment that composing and playing are two different worlds. Many people can play exceptionally but cannot compose that well and viceversa. Fred could have easily written guitar parts that he wouldn't be able to execute in the same way that John Deacon could write beautiful melodies without being a good singer himself.
> Yeah, Freddie wasn't amazing on the guitar...and he would be the first one to say it!
He was very modest about his abilities as instrumentalist but imo he was much better than he thought. Of course he wasn't Hendrix or Vai but he could play well.

summamry:
Brians harp playing, isn't playing harp
Rogers keyboarding, isn't playing keyboard
So Freddie also couldn't play guitar?
