I know this has probably been talked about on this board already but here it goes...:
I know that it says in the facts page on this site that Freddie was gay...but I read on other sites that he was a bisexual also. (wikipedia had him as a bisexual but they removed it) Anyways, I've never really heard on the true nature of their relationship. I know it would be wiser just to go to Barnes and Noble and buy a his biography for like $24.99 or something, but I thought it would better to get some feedback from you guys....how did they meet, and did he really love her, or was it just that he wasnt in love with her, or was she just used her to press reason to cover up that he was actually gay?
I know that he was really in love with his last partner Jim Hutton...I read some of his book on the net, and it almost had me in tears!! One more question: Was him growing the mustache in the 80's a way of telling people he was gay without actually saying it??? (Keep in mind, I was born in 1983, lol)
Okay, Okay, not thats its any of my business or anything...cause none of us will know if he (Freddie) ever really loved her (Mary) or anything, just oberservation-why do men, especially entertainers, do that sort of thing....I know Elton John actually married a woman back in the 80's if I'm not mistaken...If they know they are gay, why do they still deal with women, not that I'm trying to start a cyber-arugment...lol, just want to discuss...
Oh yeah-not trying to say anything about Freddie either, I RESPECT HIS MEMORY!! Just want some honest feedback!!! Love his voice and music, wouldnt be here I didnt...and I'm not homophobic by any means :)
I found this in my saved web pages. I think some of the ages/dates are incorrect, but Mary tells of her relationship with Freddie. I know it gave me the impression that they were extremely close even after they were no longer together as a couple. link
"..Anyway the wind blows..."
Hes a mystery, not gay not bisexual. (Even though some people want to call him gay, thats their choice) I don't think that theres a definition for his sexuality, one day hes this, other day hes something else. If you want to spend the rest of your life guessing, thats your choice

he was openly gay from 1981 til 1991 - thta's nto guessing..and certainyl not one day this, one day that....get over it
It's a fact that Mary and Freddie loved each other very much. First romantically and then as the very best of friends. They knew each other before Queen were famous and were together till the end. Probably a tough relationship for Mary's husband to accept, and maybe Freddie's partners as well, but they were very devoted to each other.
During his relationship with Mary, he acepted that he probabily was gay, Mary help him, he always love her for that. Aniway, in the 80's he have a relationship with Barbara Valentin (german). Maybe he was bisexual but, with gay tendence.
Sorry for my bad english ;)
Wow...that was nice story...its great that they were friends even if they did break-up...thats a really good thing, thats loyality...and loyality paid off in the end, literally!!!
I am older and I have lived in San Francisco where I have witnessed many unusual types of relationships over time.
I have personal friends who have thought themselves straight only to realize their bisexual tendencies or even homesexual preference.
Likewise, I have known people who had same sex relationships for years , but later met and fell into a loving and sexual straight relationship.
I think Freddie, as many people simply do not fit into an absolute slot that defines their sexual identity. I believe he evolved over time as he better understood his attractions and feelings.
DrCari...
I'm a female, and I had sexual experiences with other girls when I being babysat, at sleepovers, etc, with the last time being when I was like 11...now I'm 22, and I still have those feelings but I dont act on them...I had sex before with a man (of course) but I dont know if I would call myself bisexual or just simply bicurious, or hell, even tri-sexual...lol, but I have yet to have sex with another female as an adult,(I've talked to women before) not because I dont want to, simply because I dont trust people out here...but I think that day when it happens isnt far off...the way that I feel...lol
In the documentary Freddies loves it said that he was with Barbra Valentine for a couple of years and they shared the bedroom.Barbra's daughter said that Freddie was the love of her life. She also had to be very understanding as he moved on to another male relationship. She also remained a close friend of Freddies to the end.
