The only things I would change are the singer and the piano - lol, only joking! I have one word for this - BEAUTIFUL!! I love it! Just one thing I might change, if I was being really picky, is the phrasing "It's in the.... (gap) ...lap of the gods". That takes a little bit of getting used to, but otherwise, bloody excellent, and I wish I had some talent like this!
Well done, and thanks for sharing!
Hei, thanks. I'm very glad you enjoyed it.
I must say, that gap was a little bit of a mistery to us at the beginning, as we mixed our bits...but in the end we decided not to change anything: it could be taken as a moment of reflection in the song...:-)

Once, perhaps, but I think probably because it appears each time, it's more... umm... the word "irritating" is too strong, it's not that bad. "Noticeable" would be a better word to use, but now I've heard the track another couple of times, I've become accustomed, and it really doesn't spoil it.
Please... just change the Korg piano sound and it'll work! It's not bad, but because of what I'm about to get into, not my cup of tea. But the below sonical changes were made, I think it could work a lot better.
The one thing that really sticks out is the piano. I mean, it covers the vocal quite a bit. I'd recommend cutting somewhere between 1-5kHz on the piano. Perhaps even sorting that vocal out as its midrange seems quite badly cut. Something that should be known is that is where a lot of the power in a vocal comes from - around 160Hz-to-1kHz. So, if you've cut it or that's just the sound you got from the mic you used, I'd say, time to find a mic that suits your voice.
If you haven't a clue what I'm on about or don't care to try these changes, would you consider passing it to moi for mixing?
Peace,
Adam.
Hei, thanks for the advice. Well, you're right, we could have mixed it better and I'd love to pass it over to you for mixing (because it seems to me that you know very well what you're talking about)...but unfortunately this was recorded back in 2001 and all the separate tracks are lost, we have just this rough mix-down...so you're of course free to play with it, but a re-mix will be unfortunately impossible. And I think that mic wasn't the best choice back then (I can't remember what it was), now I have a Sennheiser (evolution 815-S). Would you mind giving me some hints? What kind of microphone should I try? (well, financially reasonable...:-) )
Mic tips? The only thing I can really suggest is to try them out on your voice before buying. I use an AKG C3000, an AKG C1000, AKG D880, a Rode NT1000 or a Shure Beta 58/57. It really depends on what’s needed for the track. What I started doing was to record with three mics going at the same time and then pick what you want to use in the mix. I was very surprised when I was recording a vocal at college and I used a Rode NT2, a Shure Beta 58 and a Beta 57. When it came to mixing, I didn’t use the pro Rode mic. Instead, I got a much nicer sound from the Beta58 instead! But of course, this doesn’t always happen, but at least you get an idea of why keeping your options open are a good thing!
EDIT: Btw, you don't have to demo mics in-store. Usually, if they're good, they'll ask you to put down a deposit and you can take them away to try out. I've never done that myself, but then, I'm happy with what I have.
Peace,
Adam.
Thank you very much, rogertaylor88. It's our only cover and, as a tribute to Freddie, we wanted it to be a peaceful, as you say, meditation on all that glamour that Queen (and the original song) incorporated. Thanks for listening!
Thanks Mike! I hate the idea that a cover should imitate the original song. There's no point in doing this. I think a cover should be different and should reveal other possible 'faces' of a composition...especially of a brilliant one, such as Freddie's in this case.
