Comparing the 'recording of One Vision' section to that of the original VHS on Magic Years vol.3; what do you think is the reason they cut the section where Freddie and Brian work on the guitar part?
i.e. Freddie: "More rhythm, more rhythm!"
That part wasn't cut. It's in the finished song, albeit in slightly altered form.
I may be wrong, but from memory I think the specific bit they're working on when Fred asks for more rythhm, is the little embellishment Bri plays under "...there's no black and no white". It's basically the same.
What? Confusion reigns in my head...
I obviously have both Magic Years and GVH2, and am aware that the One Vision segments on both these are slightly different, but I don't remember either of them showing Bri play a guitar part that's significantly different to what ends up on the finished version.
In a way, I hope I'm wrong (though I'm sure I'm not), as that would mean I've got something 'new' to discover (remember) when I watch the DVD again.
YOU COULD SAY.... ITS ONLY A BLODY RECORD,PEOPLE GET SO EXCITED ABOUT THESE THINGS WE JUST WANA TRY A FEW NEW SOUNDS....MISSING FROM THE BOWL DVD,BUT ON THE ORIGINAL TV RECORDING?

YEAH I GUESS WE COULD SAY THAT COULDN'T WE, EXCEPT WHAT RELEVANCE WOULD THAT HAVE TO GVH2?
1. bananawig is talking about the documentary and not the actual song. There is a part cut from the MAKING OF One Vision. There has been nothing changed in the song or video.
2. Freddie DOES say that quote in the On Fire... DVD. It is cut from the CD along with some other unnecessary things like crowd noise in between songs and a lot of the silence in the middle of Brian's solo.
"One Vision" is edited from the material filmed at the studio, as is "Extended Vision" and "The Making Of One Vision"
The Magic Years box set was compiled from original footage.
ie Magic Years isn't edited FROM "Making of", it's edited from the same original material.
Does that explain it?
Either bananawig has edited her post since my original reply, or I'm going mad, because reading the post now it's as clear as day what the question is, and my reply makes me look like a complete knob.
The fact that I didn't re-read the original post when I replied again didn't help matters either.
Ignore me. I was a little inebriated when I posted yesterday.
But DID you edit your post, bananawig?
Hi Bohardy, sorry didn't get back to this earlier. No, I didn't edit my post, and I'm also a guy (not that that makes any difference) and yes more than likely I wasn't clear enough, so apologies from me.
To give you the boring history for this post......
Basically, I have a musician flat-mate and he had asked me if there was any footage of Queen recording in the studio. So I said "yeah" (talking of the Magic Years documentary) and also said "there's quite a funny bit too where Brian and Freddie have a little bit of 'tension' between control room and Brian recording parts of One Vision riff".
Anyway as neither of us have VHS players anymore, I remembered this documentary is also on DVD GHII. So I happily put it on, only to find this section gone; ALSO the bit where Freddie, Rog and John are sitting together seemedly having a bit of a chuckle as Brian has left saying 'I've gotta get out!' - Rog saying 'It just seems like he's just marking time' (anyone remember these sections?)
Realise Queen probably hated the cameras for such inappropriate intrusions, but was still curious as whether any Queenzoners had any idea why this should have been cut from GHII DVD?
Coolio.
You were perfectly clear in your first post, so I'll blame it on the drink and hang my head in shame.
And sorry for calling you a lass. It's all Fenderek's fault, as he started it...
No probs to you both.
Ok so anyway, does anyone know if a similar 'in the studio' documentary exists for Headlong? I'm doubting it as I imagine the band would have been very protective around Freddie at this time.
Have seen some Headlong 'extra' footage, but that suggests more a 'making of' the video rather than a recording in progress.
