Howdy all. I need some help with finding 'gloomy' chords. I'm no virtuoso on the guitar but I've got a song that has been brewing in my head for a while but I can't find the appropriate chords. At the moment I've Am and that seems to fit what I have in my head.
Help please :)
Cheers.
No chords on their own are particularly gloomy. It's all about context.
You can't really get gloomier than a simple minor chord, or perhaps a min7b5, but to keep your song gloomy as a whole you need to think about the chord sequence itself, and how it relates to the melody, rather than thinking about which specific chords are gloomy.
Bb on it's own isn't a gloomy chord. But played adjacent to E major or A minor, it takes on a new function and paints a gloomy picture.
Although it's impossible to help you keep you song gloomy, given the scant info you've provided, Dm, Em and F are chords you might want to bear in mind. The off Bb thrown in for good measure will surely help your cause too.
