Help me build a list:
* The last song John Lennon recorded guitar for was "Walking on Thin Ice".
*The last song Elvis sang in front of an audience was "Bridge Over Troubled Water".
*Freddie's last recording in Montreaux was 'Mother Love', before going back to London (and finishing 'A Winter's Tale' at Metropolis studios).
Gimme s'more!
Keith Moon's last recorded performances were 'Baba O'Riley' and 'Won't Get Fooled Again' on The Kids Are Alright.
Brian Jones's last major contribution to a Stones record was autoharp on 'You Got The Silver'.
John Bonham's last recorded song was 'Wearing And Tearing' (I think).
Wasn't 'Mother Love' the last song Freddie ever recorded?
Being that he was so seriously ill, Freddie could only spend a couple of hours daily at the studio. Since he was a perfectionist, he'd record his part until he was satisfied with the result.
Apparently Freddie was able to sing the whole song, except for the last verse. Which was then sung by Brian.

Led Zeppelin created the Swan Song label, which signed Bad Company.
Might I also add that nothing is more satisfying than listening to "Bad Company" off the Bad Company album by Bad Company.
It looks like this:
Bad Company
Bad Company
Bad Company

...And the lyrics look something like this...
"Bad company
I can't deny
Bad company
Till the day I die
And I say it's
Bad company Oh Yeah---Yeah
Bad company"
...I guess they REALLY must like their name.
Like, a lot.

That's debatable... I don't think it's actually known. But the last song he performed on stage was Whole Lotta Love, in Berlin 80. It was a killer version too. An almost endless jam that just grew and grew.
R.I.P. Led Zeppelin, the best live band of all time.
" Wasn't 'Mother Love' the last song Freddie ever recorded?"
I'm pretty certain it was the last 'whole song' he did, if you will. But, having observed quotes from Dave Richards and Brian May, a certain picture emerges.
Brian May insists the last thing that Freddie did *with Brian* was Mother Love in Montreaux.
Yet I'm pretty sure Dave Richards says that the last time Freddie ever recorded was at Metropolis studios; and I've heard it said that Mother Love and A Winter's Tale actually overlapped in the recording process.
So, he does Mother Love in Montreaux, shoots off to London and does the last verse of A Winter's Tale, and dies.
Ugh... morbid,
but thanks for your contributions peoples!
George Harrison's last song is "Horse to the Water" I think.
I've heard people say that John Lennon's "Help me to help Myself" was the last thing he wrote/recorded with himself. What do you think?

Ahh, I've got several Beatles books at home, one that is a very extensive chronology up to 1993, but I can't remember for the life of me what his last song in 1980 was. I'll check it out when I get home.
And I think I remember hearing 'Horse To The Water' being played on the local radio station the day of George's death, but I don't know why it didn't show up on Brainwashed.
Regarding Bonham's last studio song, you're right Sir GH; I think I was going from memory, and that 'Wearing And Tearing' was recorded on November 21, 1978, or something. I can't remember offhand, but the sessions did extend into December, so... I'm probably wrong. But I haven't heard the live version of 'Whole Lotta Love' from 1980, but I've heard plenty of stories about it, this epic neo-metal jam that just wouldn't stop (something like twenty minutes or thereabouts). I need more Zeppelin boots, methinks.
According to the book "The Beatles: The Ultimate Recording Guide" by Allen J. Wiener (heh, "wiener"):
Nov 14: During one of his final home taping sessions, John recorded several demos. An unfinished electric demo of 'You Saved My Soul (With Your True Love)', 'Pop Is The Name Of The Game', and a final demo of 'You Saved My Soul' including lyrics from 'Serve Yourself'.
Thanks for the info - I hadn't heard of *any* of them. heh.
Em... I've been trawling through Limewire trying to find said recording of Bridge over Troubled Water by Elvis.
Is there any way of knowing if it's the one I've stumbled across?
I'd heard 'Serve Yourself', which is on the 1998 Lennon anthology, but I can't remember much of it (which probably says a lot about how good it is...). It's very Dylanesque, as far as I remember, and is apparently a really vicious attack on Dylan's own composition, 'Gotta Serve Somebody'.
Aye... thanks!
I basically know *nothing* about unreleased Beatles/Lennon stuff, though I've spent a while grabbing anything Queen related that wasn't released.
Cheers!
