I would give him him 1 out of 10. His 1 hit wonder "Alright Now" was not too bad but it's obvious he cannot sing very well at all. He would be okay on a cruise ship or holiday camp but to call him a proffesional is ludicrous. Okay he looks like a 70's Porno star that's not his fault granted but he still looks a div. So all in all Robbie Williams should have invited Brian and Roger to perform with him as backing singers and session musicians. That would be a great show from the UK's no 1 Entertainer. |

Singing Queen songs I would have to give the guy about 2 out of 10. Him being part of the reason I got to see Roger and Brian live I'd have to give him a 10 out of 10 for that |
shootingstar 28.01.2006 21:16 |
10. One of the most underrated voices in rock--ethereal, really. In just about the same class as Freddie, but with an entirely different type of a soulful approach. Ok, some of the Queen songs he sings blow. So maybe drop it down to a 9 or 8. But at least on his songs--gotta be about a 10. And, this really isn't a knock on Brian, but he interprets Paul's songs a little differently too; not necessarily bad, but it takes a little longer to sink in. |

Haha, what I think is funny is that poor BPP will have nothing to talk about after the end of Q+PR, whenever that may be. Unless he just starts making topics like, "Hey remember when Brian and Roger started Q+PR? Yeah, that wasn't any good was it!" He will always be living in the past I guess. |

Own stuff a 9. Tip-top vocals. Queen stuff...because I feel as many people do that he ruined it, and of course that his voice cannot compare to Freddie's (and nobody in rock, can really...you'd need an opera singer perhaps!) maybe a 6 or 7 at best. |

As I type this I'm listing to Freddie belt out Crazy Little Thing Called Love (Wembley 86) and lets face it Rodgers can't hold a candle to Freddie. But that is not a slight on Paul Rodgers but praise for Freddie who was the greatest live showman and singer in of the 20th Century. I think Paul Rodgers would have made a great cameo appreance in the Blues Brothers simply because his voice has that sort of sound to it. And he does have a good stage presence about him after watching the DVD a while ago. |
The Real Wizard 29.01.2006 18:51 |
The same old names, saying the same old things... But seriously: On his own, I give him an 8.5 or 9, but with Queen, I can't just give him a number. Overall, he has done a very good job, but it's obvious that he can't nail everything like Freddie did. However, I find him to be better suited to certain songs live, like Fat Bottomed Girls and Break Free. He has also done well with The Show Must Go On and the end of BoRhap. Fantastic. However, considering that the Queen catalogue wasn't originally created with the intent of being sung by anyone outside of Queen, I think asking this question in the context of someone like Paul Rodgers really isn't a fair one. Paul wrote songs for Paul to sing, and Queen wrote songs for Freddie (and occasionally Bri/Rog) to sing. This post was intended for people who actually want to make this a decent discussion, not those few who mindlessly give a 1 or 0 rating because they're Freddie fundamentalists. Let's hope this becomes a good one. It has potential. |

well for me his rating would be alot better if he would try to sing like freddie,(not the moving just singing) like what does he do on ''show mus go on?!'' but i'm still very glad that they atleast tour and if only with paul, thats ok for me. if i don't compare paul with freddie (otherwize he would get 1 or 2 out of 10) i will give him 7/10 |

You know, I watched a bit of American Idol last night - channel surfing, btw - and this young woman is singing a Mariah Carey song. Well, I'm not a fan of Mariah's, but I like the song, so I listen. The girl did an okay job. Well, the judges condemned her for choosing a song linked to such a superstar. They felt there would automatically be comparisons made between her and the star and she would therefore lose out. Sad but true. People, as a rule, don't like change. They like what they like - what they're used to - and that's it. No room for creativity, no room for adjustments. All or nothing. I'm not big on Queen + Paul Rodgers because I'm a Freddie fan first. So, I won't be going to a Q + PR concert, but neither will I turn off the radio if ever their version of songs are played, nor will I return their CD if it's given to me. Paul Rodgers has a great voice. He's no Freddie, but then he was never meant to be. |

Paul gets a 10 from me for his voice and a 9 for Queen songs. Remember he has gone out his way to sing songs that they thought the fans wanted to hear regardless of whether they suited him or not. Regardless of whether you agree with him touring with Queen or not any body who thinks he cannot sing or has an average voice, dosn't know shit anout singing.. |
Pandy Legend 03.03.2006 08:28 |
I think that Paul is one of the best choices Brian and Roger could have made for a number of reasons, to name a few: 1) He is of a similar age - not a young pretender. 2) His vocal range, although not as big a Freddie's, is above average - he can give suitable power to the high notes. 3) By Brian and Roger's own admission, Free were a major influence to Queen in the early days. 4) He is not a Freddie wannabe. 5) His voice suits Queen's rockier side, which is what comes through moreso live than in the studio. When I first saw them perform together at the Hall of Fame in 2004, I thought he was the best "guest singer" they had had since Freddie's death. Now I may get a severe bashing for saying this, but I think that some songs suit his voice better than they suited Freddie's. FBG is an example. Maybe because it's more his style anyway, I don't know, but I would love to hear a studio version with Paul on lead vocals. |
Wiley 03.03.2006 16:18 |
Actually I like his voice very much. It obviously suits his songs more than some of the Queen catalog. Yet, I think his version of Fat Bottomed Girls rocks big time! the same with We Are the Champions' bluesier version. About other songs, I think I Want to Break Free is a difficult song to sing, yet Paul pulls it off better than some of Freddie's performances, specially the ones in the The Works tour. I really enjoyed I Want it All, aswell. I really like the fact that Queen are touring with him. No other collaboration of Brian and Roger has been this good. I think George Michael did very good at Freddie's Tribute but there's no way he would have pulled off the rockier tracks, which I tend to like the most from Queen's catalog. I give Paul Rodgers a solid 10/10 singing his own songs with Queen, an 8.5 with a big part of the Queen songs, and a 9.5 with the songs I mentioned earlier. Wiley |

I'd give Rodgers an 8 out of 10. I think he's excellent for the most part, but occasionally he...what's the word? Hams it up? Something like that...and that bugs me. He does a really good job on the hard rock songs, not so much on the slower stuff. It is quite cool hearing Brian and Roger play Bad Company songs...they brought down the house when they played "Feel Like Makin' Love". |
