Rank the Queen members based on their virtuosity (is that even a word lol) of their particular "instrument". Like who's the best at what they did. I was compelled to post this because to me John Deacon is a virtuoso on the bass, just listen to nearly any Queen song (sans crappy electric perios of the 80's that started with Hot Space and didn't really ended with AKOM) like You're my Best Friend, Somebody to Love, Don't Stop me Now, Bicyckle Race, etc. It popped in my head that John Deacon is probably a better bass player than Freddie was a singer. So fast forward about 8 or 9 hours and here I am posting a thread based on that thought. Anyways, here's my ranking 1. John Deacon 2. Freddie Mercury 3. Brian May 4. Roger Taylor --- I don't see how Roger can be anything but last no matter who's ranking the Queen members lol and the amazing aprt is he's a good drummer. |

I couldn't possibly rank them, they are all great at what they do. |
kdj2hot 27.01.2006 17:37 |
I think this a thread for musicians because a lot of people don't care about something "buried" in the mix so naturally I wouldn't be surprised if some people would rank John Deacon last. |
teleman 27.01.2006 18:23 |
It's hard to rank them. The magic came from all of them together. They were all quite good at their main instruments but I don't think any really qualify as virtuoso. What a fantastic combination. |

=1)Roger Taylor =1)Brian May =1)Freddie Mercury =1)John Deacon That seems ok to me - they were a team, not a bunch of individuals |

1. Freddie: Charisma, Vocals, harmonies, keyboards, some guitar skill, virtuosity, innovation. 2. Brian: Guitar, Bass, Vocals, harmonies, keyboards, producing skills. 3. Roger: Drums, other percussion, guitar, vocals, harmonies. 4. John: Bass, some keyboards, some guitar, electrical knowledge. There you go. Hard to decide, but thats my opinion. All bring different things to the group. Pretty much equal 1st i would say. |

It's impossible for me to rank them. A friend of mine refers to them as a dream band because you couldn't ask for more in a band - the best vocalist, best guitarist, best drummer and best bassist all combined. I have to say I agree. |
bohemian 11513 28.01.2006 12:44 |
...quite an easy task!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When it comes to... a) playing the bass... no one is able to play those strings like our "Fellow John"! b) playing the drums... well, John did it like no one else in the band! Remember "One Vision"? c) playing the guitar... Fred of course!!! ...ever listend to "Crazy Little Thing Called Love"??? z) vocals... of course Paul Rodgers... Fred´s "All Time Favourite"! ;-) PS: ...forgot to mention Spike "The God" Edney on keyboards! PPS: Brian and Rog are out of competition... as they are better known as "Queen+" !!! :-) |

kdj2hot 29.01.2006 22:12 |
I wasn't talking about who's the most important to the band. Obviously Freddie was the most important member. Screw all politics, Freddie was the most important member of Queen without question, followed by Brian May. That wasn't my question or point, I was talking about who mastered their primary instrument. Not who was the most proficient at all instruments or the most important member. Anyway with that point in mind, I believe John Deacon is (I better say was cause it's pushing a decade sense anyone heard him play) was a better bass player than Freddie was a singer. |

I think if youre truly are a fan of theres, its impossible to rate them...I know me personally, I hate being compared to, and I'm pretty sure they hate it also. I would say all of them were good at what they did...lol |

First way to rank: "Who can't be replaced easily?" 1. Freddie: Without Freddie it just isn't Queen anymore. Maybe Queen+, but IMO that's not much more than a good Queen cover band. 2. Brian: His playing style is unique, the sound of his Red Special also, but both could be imitated to a certain degree. 3. Roger: He also has an individual style of playing, but he could be replaced more easily than Brian. 4. John: Only bass players and some other musicians would hear the difference at once if some other top bass player would replace him. Second way to rank: "Who is the greatest virtuoso?" 1. John: Very accurate, definitely has the "feeling" for what the bass should play and how it should sound. Able to play verysophisticated stuff. 2. Freddie: At least in the studio (and also live, when his voice was in good shape) he was one of the best Rock singers. Great voice, very much feeling in it, wide spectrum. 3. Brian: Great player, but technically not one of the best. Compensates with his unique style and creativeness inventing sounds. 3. Roger (equalling Brian): Same as Brian – very creative, versatile, but esp. rhythmically he's not one of the best. Third way to rank: "Who incorporates the bet mix of abilities?" 1. Freddie: Awesome singer, fantastic songwriter, arranger, composer and showman. And he plays piano, too. 2. Brian: Good singer, fantastic guitar player, composer/songwriter. 3. Roger: Fantastic drummer, good singer with a special, recognizable voice, good composer/songwriter. 4. John: Also a fantastic musician and good songwriter. But when it comes to singing or entertaining the audience ... Now you see, why it is so difficult to rank the Queen members. There are a lot more ways to rank them, and everybody has his own method. |

I'd have to say: 1. Freddie 2. Brian 3. Roger 4. John But they're all brill and love everything they came up with |
Micrówave 17.02.2006 15:01 |
If you treat them as equals as Queen, then I'd rank them by their solo output: 1. Roger Taylor 2. Brian May 3. Freddie Mercury 4. John Deacon Brian edging out Freddie due to "Other Appearances". Of course if you include "Queen +" then I'd go: 1. Elton John 2. David Bowie 3. Steve Howe 4. Roger Taylor 5. Brian May 6. Freddie Mercury 7. Paul Rodgers 8. John Deacon 9. Tim Staffel X. Wyclef |

Come on guys, everyone knows that Freddie Mercury was #1. Ask people on the street to name one member of Queen. If they can name anyone at all, 95% of them will say, "Freddie Mercury". Why? Because Freddie Mercury was #1. |
