Although this is just an official American holiday, I think it wouldn't be such a bad idea to make this a worldwide celebration for the life of a man who stood his ground in his search for freedom and equality. Let us remember once again that he did not fight with weapons or physical force, but only with the power of love, peace, and reasoning.
It's been 20 years since MLK day has been declared a National American holiday and now more than ever his legacy lives on. While his message has been widely spread in America, I really think that people around the world should learn more about the life of Dr. King.
I think it's important as well that people around the world realize that despite living in times where Americans have "earned" a reputation of being greedy, violent, and arrogant, there are still many of us here in the U.S. who still believe in his dream, and who still believe that freedom, peace, and justice can be achieved without the use of violence or destruction.
yes the day i love working in atlanta the most
*insert sarcasm here*
my office is on the corner of auburn and courtland--
so of course with his crypt, church and center about 3/4 mile away-- they close off the street--
actually quite a few streets--which really makes it a pain in the ass to get to work...
now if his daughter will stop preaching hate... and the rest of the family get in line with the dream.. i will be a happy camper

Definitely following the path of Pat Robertson but still far from getting there. At least the major of New Orleans is not advocating for the assasination of another person.
People like Pat Robertson and Jerry Fallwell sure make Satan happy because they spread hatred in name of christianity.

People like Pat Robertson and Jerry Fallwell sure make Satan happy because they spread hatred in name of christianity.
But Nagin is quickly gaining on Pat and Jerry:
"God is mad at America" and at black communities, too, for tearing themselves apart with violence and political infighting.
"Surely God is mad at America. He sent us hurricane after hurricane after hurricane, and it's destroyed and put stress on this country," Nagin, who is black, said as he and other city leaders marked Martin Luther King Day.
"Surely he doesn't approve of us being in Iraq under false pretenses. But surely he is upset at black America also. We're not taking care of ourselves."
Nagin also promised that New Orleans will be a "chocolate" city again. Many of the city's black neighborhoods were heavily damaged by Katrina.
"It's time for us to come together. It's time for us to rebuild New Orleans _ the one that should be a chocolate New Orleans," the mayor said. "This city will be a majority African American city. It's the way God wants it to be. You can't have New Orleans no other way. It wouldn't be New Orleans."
---HERE IS THE IRONIC KICKER:
Nagin also said King would have been dismayed with black leaders who are "most of the time tearing each other down publicly for the delight of many."
