I'll be the first to admit I have an irrational affection/attachment/allegiance to Freddie Mercury. I can't think about him without feeling silly inside. I know all about his faults, but I also know about his talent - his musical genius - his drive to perform his best despite his condition. I admire him. I respect his energy, his focus, his arrogance. On top of all that, I think he was dreamy to look at.
BUT... the man has been dead for 14 years. I never met him. Never saw him perform live, never became a member of the official Queen fan club.
What is it - for you - about The Man that has made him the legend he wanted to be?
for making the best type of music in history and the fact that he was beautiful, great voice, great fashion sense, great personality and these things blend to create such an admiration for him... he my favourite person! lol
The fact that he was one of a kind. He was unique.Just like Elvis, people appreciated him more after his death. I guess you realize how great someone is and what you missed after they die because thats what it took to bring attention to his talent and everything about him. I hate to say it but thats how it was for me. I always was a fan of Queen and Freddie but I seem to be more obsessed with them now than ever.Kinda sad isnt it?

Never met the guy, so I can´t really say something about his personality, it´s all hearsay. What I do know is that he was a musical genius. Great performer, great pianoplayer and a brilliant composer. The greatest in rockmusic so far.

Absolutely nothing is wrong with it. I would never say there is. I just wondered why/how he has such power over all of us. I thought I was alone in my fandome, until I found these boards. I mean there are constant discussions here about 'what would he think of this' "what did he say about that'. And only a handful of posters seem to tire of them.
I, like almost everyone here, want to see and hear every interview with him. Every picture. Yikes, I sound like a stalker...
The answers here are all right, though. I agree with them and feel the same way. Special man. Special music. Special place in our hearts.
From the moment I heard Freddie sing I knew that he would always be my favorite singer forever!! There is something about him that no front man ever or any person I can think of that has what he has!!

Very well said, darling;) Freddie is the most creative man who ever lived. His mind was always flowing with creative juices, and he had so many ideas/dreams that he wanted to try out and make into reality. You can see what a beautiful gift that Freddie truly was, by the fact that from a very early age,(The Hectics)he was already a star;)

It's exactly because you never met him. He's not around, he's a legend now. So you can have your idol exactly they way YOU want it. Not the way he really is.
That's why Brian and Roger get so much flack this days. They do things that may disappoint you. Freddie cannot do now anything that you will dislike. So he becomes perfect...

I'm not as obsessed with Freddie as I was before, I think less of him now and focus on other things, but he's still my tip-top idol! And you really can't explain why you idolize someone, it's just there. Like if I tried explaining why Freddie is my idol, I'd be going, "Um, um, um." for hours.

My obession with Freddie started in 1998...I don't know why really, but then it was more about the music. Now it's more about Freddie personally. His talent, his confidence to get where he wanted to be, his strength to deal with the AIDS virus, his personality; shy, kind, generous, plus he's not bad to look at :)
This goes into another catagory, but I'm always thinking out how it would have been had I met him. I'm sure lots of people think this, but I would have been one of his best friends possibly and being a singer myself...who knows, we might have worked on some song together or something.
