It had to happen someday!
NECA is to produce an 18 inch Freddie action figure with sound chip. As one could expect, the chosen outfit is … Wembley 86!
No pictures yet, but you can check out their John Lennon
NECA usually makes excellent sculpts, so that’s very good news overall. I can’t help finding the scale rather silly, though; it would hardy look good on one’s desk. Hopefully it will be made in a 7’’ range eventually.
Oh so cool!!! Me too, I want one!!
Thanks for sharing, I've marked that page as a favorite so I can keep checking back - NEED PHOTOS!!!
You're right about the scale, though. 7" would be grand. Should we all send them a message of request?
I LOVE the Lennon one, and was actually thinking the other day how awesome it would be if NECA made Freddie...
...Crap... So much for my break. :P GREAT news, anyway!
***EDIT***
FALL TS05: New Music Figures from NECA
For those about to rock...
NECA has announced a new line of figures based on past and present rock-and-roll legends.
Figures slated to be released in early 2006 include:
18” John Lennon in jean jacket, jeans and sunglasses. Figure includes voice chip with numerous phrases/ lyrics.
18” Freddie Mercury in yellow jacket with half-stand microphone. Figure includes voice-chip with numerous phrases/ lyrics.
7” Jimmy Page in dragon-embroidered suit playing a double guitar.
Devo Boxed Set featuring the group from their “Whip It” video.7” AC/DC Boxed Set featuring Brian and Angus Young and cannon. Figures/ cannon will feature music/ sound chip with “firing” sound and music (“For Those About to Rock”).
NECA will follow up their 18” music figures with 7” figure as well and later hopes to include other rock legends - such as Nirvana front man Kurt Cobain - in the line.
Look for more on this series and other NECA products in the near future…
lol, I thought I was going mad for a second. over here NCEA are the people who run our exams and stuff. Nation Certificate in Education Acheivement or something like that. I thought if NCEA were making Freddie action figures, i might just forgive them for making the english exam so bloody hard. oh well, maybe not.
I actually have the DEVO action figure (hey...Roy Thomas Baker produced Queen AND Devo...what's with that?) and it's fabulous, 7 devolved inches of radiation-suit clad spud and 5 (count 'em, pinks!) interchangeable heads of band members, 1 blazing red energy dome for securely stowing the doll's simulated sexual chi flow, and a whip to crack and give the past a slip. Duty Now for the Future!
Anyway, forgive me I digress, but if NECA do a Freddie Mercury doll, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. The above mentioned action figure is completely worth it.
NECA website is link
It says "NECA only sells WHOLESALE to RETAIL businesses. For retail sales information please contact your local retailer."
If Queenzoners would like to see Brian, Roger, and John become action figures (after all, Freddie might get lonely for the other three) perhaps we could contact NECA and tell them we are interested in their manufacturing the rest of the band. If NECA knows there is a market for them, perhaps they will look into it. NECA lists four contact emails. Maybe the PR/advertising one.
This is what I emailed them: Hi, I am a dedicated fan of the rock bank Queen - Freddie Mercury and all. Pretty much every day I go to the Queenzone.com website. Recently I have learned that your company will be manufacturing Freddie - due to be released in 2006. We Queenzoners are VERY EXCITED about this. Some of us would like to see Brian, Roger, and John become action figures as well. Would you please consider this. When Freddie is ready, a good place to advertise it (and what retailers have it available) would be on Queenzone.com.
Okay, I couldn't stand it anymore... I preordered mine. Yes. I did. I broke down, couldn't wait. I swore I'd hold out for the 7" (if they make one). But I couldn't take the chance.
Guess what I'll be getting for my birthday? ;-)
