I'm a Queen fan since 1977, but I never was much into their 80's songs, so I never really got used to the Magic/Miracle/Innuendo stuff. But in the recent months I more often listened to those later songs and it struck me, how some of the lyrics could be related to Freddie's illness or his inevitable death – not only his own compositions. I can't decide if that was intended or if it is just a coincidence. I'm not an English native speaker, so of course I may interprete some lyrics in the wrong way. But in these songs I see innuendos (sic!) of Freddie's fate:
Don't Try So Hard, Mother Love – very similar
The Show Must Go On
These Are The Days Of My Life: Not really, but Freddie may have bended the meaning a bit towards a "Goodbye" to his fans
I'm Going Slightly Mad: "It finally happened" – Freddie surely was aware thet he was in danger of being infected
Bijou: The short lyrics could be interpreted as a plea to Jim.
But: Too Much Love Will Kill You is definitely over-interpreted, if you connect it with Freddie's love-life
What do you think? Please don't come with that old crap of BoRhap being about AIDS and stuff, be serious!
I know that several of the above mentioned songs weren't written by Freddie. But why should the others not write about their feelings regarding Freddie's condition?
I can remember the time when Innuendo was released very clearly. Me and my friends were talking about those lyrics and Freddies looks at that time. We saw a clear connection between the lyrics of the mentioned songs and Freddie's health. A lot of people did think of him having AIDS though Freddie himself never admitted it.
As I know most of the lyrics of TMLWKY were written by Elizabeth Lamers, not by Brian and anyway it was before Brian knew that something wrong with Freddie, so as you stated above: "But: Too Much Love Will Kill You is definitely over-interpreted, if you connect it with Freddie's love-life".
