There's this guy at my college who for the first two seconds of seeing him I thought he looked a little like Freddie. He had big teeth, dark shoulder length hair, but then I looked at him closely and he really didn't look in the least like freddie...So there is actually no point to this story. ...Actually though he always pulls these really odd faces a bit like a really stunned rabbit and he picks his nose and sucks his hair and he's always on his own and he appears to have no friends..Me and my friend felt sorry for him so we went and said 'hi' to him but he was so surprised that some one actually spoke to him he quite litarelly fell off his chair and choked on his biscuits..We haven't spoken to him since and he always throws us really worried looks when we enter the canteen...That was my anecdote of the day. |

That's sad... But let me get this straight...when you say "college," to me that means "sort of between high school and college," and when I say "college," to you it means "university?" Then what is graduate school? |
Freya is quietly judging you. 09.01.2006 17:02 |
When I say college it means between school and universaty, in other words between the ages of 16 - 18. What's Graduate School anyway? |

In seeking a hard-and-fast rule, nothing firmly divides colleges and universities. No real differences exist. Generally, a college is considered as an institution having associates and/or bachelors programs. A university is usually considered to have a mixture of undergraduate and master’s programs. They also may have doctoral-level programs. While some consider the size of an institution as an indicator – thinking of colleges as small and universities as large – this does not hold true in many cases. |

The main difference is size, although TCNJ is more selective and whatnot. In the US, the terms are (for the most part) interchangable and size really doesn't matter. Technically, a college offers a specialized education. This can be a small two-year business college where you receive an Associates degree in Administrative Assistance or Accounting, for instance. A University, on the other hand, is composed of various "schools" or colleges. Looking at the College of New Jersey, there are 7 or 8 schools (School of Business, School of Art, Media, and Music, etc). Other Universities might have a College of Arts and Sciences along with a School of Medicine or School of Law. Anymore, small, liberal arts colleges can become a university by offering a graduate degree (which entails having a Graduate School) or by turning one program or department into its own school, such as a School of Nursing or School of Education. Most people in the US really don't care about the differences between a college and university, though the difference is much more clear in Europe since a college is more akin to a high school experience. |

I don't know if any of you watch "the kumars at No. 42", but the granny was talking to some guy from east enders, and she said "anita dobson looks very much like her husband, Brian May...do you look like your wife?" then she went on about how sanjiev tried to grow a mustache (sorry, can't spell it) just like Freddie Mercury. lol! Also, my old teacher Mrs Richards looks just like Brian too! One day she was out for a run and my mum said to me "oh look, it's Brian May" For a second I thought she meant he really was out running the backroads, but alas, it was just Mrs Richards... She has since got blonde streaks, so I now have a pretty good idea what Brian would look like if he ever got blonde streaks. |
