Anyone get the most recent issue of Q? Well, I did. Regular readers may remember a few months ago we were asked to vote for our top 5 albums. The results came out this month (Q235, February 2006). Not a single Queen album in the top 100! I was outraged. I voted:
1. Sheer Heart Attack (Queen)
2. A Night At The Opera (Queen)
3. The Undertones (The Undertones)
4. London Calling (The Clash)
5. Innuendo (Queen)
The only one of mine in the top 100 was London Calling at No. 20.
Top Ten were:
1. OK Computer (Radiohead)
2. The Bends (Radiohead)
3. Nevermind (Nirvana)
4. Revolver (The Beatles)
5. Definitely Maybe (Oasis)
6. The Stone Roses (The Stone Roses)
7. Automatic For The People (R.E.M.)
8. (What's The Story) Morning Glory? (Oasis)
9. Achtung Baby (U2)
10. Kid A (Radiohead)
I do not really want to type out the top 100, but there are a few other things I could mention.
The Beatles had 5 albums in the top 100, 4 in the top 20.
Pink Floyd had 3.
Oasis had 3, 2 in the top 10.
Coldplay had 2.
Even the Beastie Boys had 1, although it was No. 98.
No Queen albums at all is ridicolous. I am ashamed of the British public opinion.
On a better note, the magazine gives an entire page to a review of ANATO 30th anniversary edition. It is very complementary of it, giving it five stars. For further listening it recommends SHA, ADATR, Jazz, The Game and GH1 for which it gave 3, 3, 4, 3 and 5 stars respectively. The opposite page is taken up with a picture of the band posing nude. It can be found on pages 108-109.
Achtung Baby was the last good U2 album (Joshua Tree being the previous last good one). I can understand it being included. After all, it sounds 'cool' to say that U2 had a great album. Otherwise, you don't get invited to the company parties or assigned the premium gigs to see.
Bear in mind, these are magazine readers of Q, they may be younger people/ teens/ early 20's. The point I'm making is that they are certainly not representative of the british public like you are insinuating.
Something like BBC polls or Guiness Record polls which are far more likely to be representative of the population in general are paid much more attention to and Queen always features highly in these publications with much greater circulation. So if ONE small magazine poll doesn't list Queen, so what? Peace.

Indeed, I know a lot better albums from U2. Listening to Achtung Baby is like listening to one large song.

I'm not gonna lose any sleep over it, it just pisses me off a bit.
