Freddies death was on number 66. I just thought it was really stupid because they said like "Though Freddie was famous he was a very lonely man, and he filled the void with sex, drugs and rock'n'roll." And they made it look as if he was very lonely, you know, kinda isolated himself and had no friends or something, wich is a total lie, he was with Jim for five-six years or something, wasn't he?? Has anyone seen this stupid program??? |
flash! 28068 30.12.2005 16:59 |
well if they're gonna say shit like that then i don't think any of us want to watch it..! lol simple as that, darling! |
YlvaDaJackass 30.12.2005 17:02 |
lol!! Yes, you're right, it was really stupid. I just saw Freddie on the commercial for it and I became really excited, but then they just said that shit and I just became pissed. |
kagezan1313 30.12.2005 18:14 |
Freddie's never been done justice on those listed shows - every one of them uses interviewees who have no fucking idea what Queen or Freddie stood for and was all about. |
jcrawford79 30.12.2005 18:36 |
Well, hasn't Freddie himself made comments about his loneliness and insecurities? |
as it began 30.12.2005 18:52 |
Freddie probably had issues with loneliness and insecurity, yes, but to say he "filled the void with sex and drugs" is totally ignorant. They are making it sound as if Freddie was another tragedy of rock n roll and that is totally unfair. |

But you're right, he certainly would have "no fucking idea what Queen stood for." |
YlvaDaJackass 30.12.2005 19:56 |
No, there was no interview with Brian. And I've seen quotes where Freddie said he was lonely and all that, but in this program they just didn't seem to have done so much research, since they said he was lonely and isolated and just had sex and like that, when he actually had a relationship with Jim Hutton for several years. It was just a bit uunprofesionall in my eyes. |

Yes, I saw it, and i was rather angry at how they portrayed it. And it should have been higher up on the countdown, i mean what was the number one moment? I cant even remember, but stupid things like ashton kutcher going out with demi moore was higher up than that... who cares... people date its not that shocking... unless you're talking the whole woody allen thing but thats a rare commodidity.(sp?) And they made it sound like he did all kinds of drugs, he did coke, but he didnt really like other drugs, atleast thats what ive read, except that one time he had special tea which was an accident anyways. And he was permiscuous, but he wasnt the only one. And he was a rather secluded man, and he was a clubber, but when anyone gets AIDS its sad and shocking. But other than that, most of the crap on that damn countdown was fillers... There were only a few truly shocking moments in entertainment, or they should have atleast done more research into other things. |

it is well established fact (amongst any long-standing queen fans) and common knowledge - that freddie was lonely he openly admitted to feelings of loneliness from the time that queen hit the bigtime until he settled down (which was after he became HIV) also - Freddie was no saint...don't try to make out he was a one-man-man, he openly admitted to his own promiscuity for years....even going as far to admit that for a handful of years he shagged any bloke he could get hold of...even taking two or three back to his hotel a ta a time please don't try and paint FM as some misunderstood, saintly icon..when he was about as filthy dirty and drug abusing as they come in rock n roll |

Hello everyone....I just joined this site after lurking for awhile. Those VH1 list type shows are usually salacious and often snarky. I haven't caught the one being discussed, but I will keep my eye open for it. I think Freddie is perceived in different ways depending on the fan. I am older and have had the history of observing the evolution of Freddie and Queen since the 1970's. Younger fans may not realize that promiscuous sexual behavior was almost a social expectation in cool circles in the 70's. It isn't fair to place a moral judgement on that behavior from the perspective of today. Back in the 70's AIDS was unheard of. Recreational drug use was also commonplace and pretty much an expected lifestyle among rock musicians.....these were days before crack, the Meth epidemics and the culture of Drug Rehab. Of course, I didn't know Freddie personally. I do know that it is not unusual for very successful people to feel lonely even while surrounded by others. The sadness and feelings of alienation are probably what made Freddie's songs so compelling to us. We could all relate to his words because we could sense his angst and conversely his joy and excitement. Screw VH1 and their lame countdown. I don't seem to recall VH1 having much interest in Queen or Freddie until his death. |

Yes i know he was no saint. I never said he was, and im glad he never tried to hide that because it would be a hard things for fans to swallow if they found out otherwise later, as often happens. There was just something about how it was done and how they focused on the fact that he was promiscuious etc that makes me upset, as if thats all he was known for. Yes, that was apart of his life, but in certain things like that if its on entertainment, they should focus on the more ENTERTAINMENT part of it, i mean a brief mention to explain how he maybe contracted aids or personal life, but that was the whole thing and the first mention was "FLAMBOYANT FRONTMAN OF THE ROCK BAND QUEEN" and that was all that was said about him as a musician. Now if it were on the life of Freddie Mercury, then by all means cover that aspect of his life, but as well as others. Does that make a bit more sense, thats what i really mean worded much better now i hope. And he was a big coke user, not into any other drugs, he didnt like them. Very strange i know and no it doesnt make it better. And im not condoning it either, but its the way that everything was placed. and MERCURY AND ME i found on AMAZON.COM You have to look in the Used books section, because its out of print. Thats where i got mine, and the service was great i got it in like less than a week that i ordered it. And its in decent condition for being used. Just read the descriptions carefully. |
